Your work on this deep dive is greately appreciated. It helped me link some old time favourites like Death Note, Black Lagoon and Claymore with newer ones like Sonny Boy and Frieren. LOVE videos like these. Keep it Up! I'd be interested to see if you'd consider doing an Anime studio deep dive in a "rise and fall" point of view of "Studio Gonzo" home of some 00s classics such as Basilisk, Hellsing, and Trinity Blood! They definitely had a niche very similar to what madhouse is known for today (dark, gritty, seinen) but the company has changed so drastically since then! I think WIT studio would be a fascinating case as well, from helming juggernauts like AOT and Vinland Saga to primarily working on original movies/series is quite a turn of events.

      @@leonbrando9892 imo, most of their works in the 90s-2000s were directed carefully and beautifully, flaws and all. The feeling of profoundness resonates when watching shows like Monster, Gungrave, and Texhnolyze. And of course, the action packed scenes of Black Lagoon, Hajime no Ippo, as well as the looming mystery in Death Note and Paranoia Agent.
      And why would I even forget the works of the late Satoshi Kon and Kawajiri? I'd also like to mention Legend of the Galactic Heroes as an honorable mention. Imo, their work set the standard for anime production in Madhouse, for me at least. Yes I'm being biased but that's how I really it.
      That's what I rarely/barely see in their works from the 2010s and beyond. It's either a hit or a miss in terms of animation and direction. I don't want to say generic, but that's how I felt seeing their works during that decade. The "Wait, I've watched another show with a similar premise the other day" feeling. There are very notable works of course but if I'm going to compare them with previous works, the 90s-2000s is still my pick.
      In conclusion, I'm probably just used to watching anime that they did before the 2010s since I went on a streak of binging old animes for the past 3 years, and the works from 2010s were different from what I'm used to watching. Though I'm kinda seeing their actual comeback with Frieren.

    I feel like i just had a wikipedia list of anime they have produced speed-read at me. Not much of a deep dive, honestly. Glossing over controversies or talents leaving, no mention of much drama a small google will reveal... You put alot of work into this and ican appreciate that, but i also believe that because of that you can do better than this.

    • @leonbrando9892
      @leonbrando9892  8 місяців тому +1

      It’s more of a celebration of Madhouse rather than delving into the controversial side of things because we get enough of that in the space as it is. I appreciate the critique though and I even said there’s things I didn’t tackle during the video due to the length of it. But I can always come back to it in the future. For example I’ll tackle MAPPA eventually but because of everything surrounding it and all the misinformation and outrage I was going to wait it out after everything comes out so I’m not adding more fuel to the fire. Controversies a lot of the time are alleged but the community treat it as fact due to it being believable. I didn’t want to get into allegation territory as others do. It’s just weird that you say that a lot of work was put into the video but then also say that it wasn’t what it’s supposed to be due to not speaking on drama

      @@leonbrando9892 My comment directly refers to the title of "deep dive" when its really more of a quick overview. I was set to strap in and learn new information but what i was in for was quick gloss over their shows.
      I thought it was important to recognize that you put work into it, and had the video been what i expected, i think you could do it justice based on the evident work you put into the video.
      Another clarification that might help what i mean This is more closely aligned with iceberg videos i have seen around, which say they are deep explanations, but are mostly cursory glances, despite covering a wide breadth of information.
      i would never call either this video or those videos as not work. I sat down for an hour and watched it despite my comment, i would certainly watch something longer were you to produce it~

      @@dungeondragon3580 I appreciate the clarification because I was trying to see what you meant by it. I know personally I went into making it talking about Tezuka being in the company. What CLAMP was able to do. And then the talents that made up the company worthwhile and i steer away from the drama aspect of it because it gets talked about at length on UA-cam as it is and it’s unfortunate that most of the time the attention is solely on allegations and not the other talent and what they were able to achieve. I see your issue mainly lies with the titling of the video though

    Personally while I can understand why you decided to pay respect to each MadHouse worker over the years It would have been a better use of time to have talked more about the animes they worked on instead. I don't think myself nor any other watcher is going to remember footnotes of Animator X doing key animations Y and Z. Like you sped past almost every anime not bothering to even give a brief synapsis on any unless it was a huge one that most would already know.
    That's just me as I always find it hard to remember names so watching a video thats just saying the names of people and what they did feels almost wasteful since I already forgot those names.

    • @leonbrando9892
      @leonbrando9892  8 місяців тому +1

      Very valid criticism. I know for some I delved more into like the 70s and 80s productions that people didn’t know about, but I wanted to focus on particular people that were integral to Madhouse over the years. Plus the names I went into for the OPM stuff was important so that people knew who were behind the animation seeing as it gets lauded for all the time but some don’t know the team behind it. I use more of these videos to talk about the production side of things as I personally find that more interesting. I appreciate the feedback though, there’s always room to improve and I do want these type of videos to be as comprehensive as possible so I appreciate you telling me this
