  • A recent addition of a unicorn fish (*Starry Night*) set in motion having to move around a lot of fish. Back Story: A couple of years ago I made a silly mistake and I lost a very special fish, a Paratilapia polleni, often referred to as a Starry Night cichlid from Madagascar. The lack of availability and other factors made replacing this fish difficult for me. But that changed this last weekend and here's a full fish room update on how adding this unicorn fish has forced changes, and how all my fish, including the Starry Night, are currently doing.
    Note: A version of this video was previewed in the Saturday 4/27/24 Cichlids & Coffee live stream. This is the _final cut which includes some added content._

    The Paratilapia Polleni is the most beautiful fish. I stumbled across one when the fish store erroneous labeled a young one as a Jack Dempsey for $.25...yes, 25 cents. Had it for a solid 6 year run as the tank boss. Stunning fish! I was offered $300 for it once it was full grown but nope. It's priceless.

    Starry Night is beautiful Fish. Good Luck with your fish. After over 30 years of keeping and breeding fish I am almost done with them. My health is going down hill. I get tired when I water change my last aquarium, a 55 gallon. I run out of oxygen. I will continue to watch your channel, Ric

    Ben,
    That starry night is very pretty. I am glad all the fish moves are working out. I love all the new homes for the fish and the color pops on the 210 gal. So cool I have a black sparkling sand in all my tanks and it just makes all the fishes color just pop. The darker substrate is the way to go. I replaced all my tanks gravel with the black sand I love it so much better and the cichlids seem to love it also when they dig in it lol. Appreciate the fish room updates.

    Beautiful fish Ben! I think the Start Night should get his own tank. Maybe you can put the Congo tetras in with him. Add a few more Congo's and keep the african theme. Just a thought

    Have you ever tried growing pothos or peace lilies on your tanks? Do the cichlids like to eat the roots as well as all the other plants?

    • @BenOchart
      @BenOchart  2 місяці тому

      Never tried it, but maybe someday. They might eat the roots…

      @@BenOchart I have pothos and peace lilies in almost all my tanks but the only cichlids I have are angelfish and they don't eat the roots but they do like to chew on the water wisteria and the ludwigia.

    Hi Ben
    This has nothing to do with this video. But I wanted to let you be aware that those Hygger heaters that shows the temp and has a switch in the cord to set temp stopped working and are not accurate. Two of mine just gave out and some others are not heating up the tank at all yet say temp is at 80. Just wanted to let you know
