Hands down this is one of the best pieces of Film Noir ever made. Jesus I love this movie!! The way it opens with that long walk down the hall, every frame, every damn minute of this film is pure genius. Truly--they just don't make 'em like this anymore and there are no actors today who could play these roles. Thanks for posting this!!!!

@David Loehmann I'm not so sure your vision hasn't been completely clouded by the nostalgia goggles you're currently wearing, David. Sure, It's an entertaining flick, but it's all over the map when it comes to acting, dialog, and edits that are rather amateurish at best, even for the time and lack of budget. It's the plot of the film that keeps me interested and despite the rather derivative script of the remake, I think the 1988 version is far superior.

This a favorite of mine. A wonderful noir classic with Edmond O'Brien giving one of his finest performances along with all the others involved who can all take a well-deserved bow. Have watched it many times and has never lost its power and sheer old school entertainment value.

The initial long walk down the hall and an original plot, the victim of an homicide who kills his own killer prior this one would kill him, are the biggest merits of this historical movie. Engaging.

When I was a teen mid 197o's, , my mother heard DOA was going to be shown on TV. She remembered seeing it in the threatre. We huddled around the one TV with an antenna that could pick up the station that was showing it. (Rural area.) It was very fuzzy, We loved it. I'd never heard the term film noir. This was my introduction.

Edmond O'Brien was one of the greatest character actors ever. His first major film role was in 1939's The Hunchback Of Notre Dame as the poet Grangoire and he looked to have a very promising future as a leading man in the movies. When World War II came, O'Brien enlisted in the USAAF and it was during his military service that he started having problems controlling his weight; also the timbre of his voice changed and that changed his career trajectory. O'Brien would score a few starring roles in the ensuing years but it was as a character actor that he made his indelible mark as a performer. This movie is one of his few truly outstanding starring roles on top of a stellar portfolio of character roles which were some of the most memorable of any actor in any period.

They still do it to the public, and report it as real. Crisis acting and crowd sourcing aren’t multi-billion dollar industries for marketing to the masses, are they? Nope. It takes very deep pockets to fund it, make it so lucrative when there is zero public advertising for this “service”, and it takes a worldwide stage to perform it. They aren’t private performances. There’d be no need for that. Put news cameras on, and the public also has no idea it’s a “drill”, or a publicly-performed soap opera reported as real.
      Forensics don’t lie, people do.
And reality TV was (and still is) the perfect social experiment to see what absolutely disgusting things some people would do (and what abuse they’d tolerate as well), and how low people would stoop to betray their fellow man and even the ones they claim to love the most for a few dollars and some air time on TV, and to find out how gullible people would be to believe whatever they are shown.
Ha. They sure got their answer.
I’m sure they also don’t report how many people have cut them off entirely and just don’t engage at all, no news, TV or Hollywood. Minds can see much more clearly when they aren’t crammed with propaganda (which is legal, the news is “entertainment” and legalized propaganda, and it doesn’t actually have to report one single shred of truth, but it does help the lies go down).
It’s almost funny to hear people talk of the propaganda campaigns of other countries, while naïvely and childishly believing that THEIR own country doesn’t do it, or “not very much, or we’d know about it!”. Oh sure. “They couldn’t”. “They wouldn’t”. “It would too expensive”. “Everyone would have to be in on it”. “Everyone would know, no one would believe it”.
We’ve heard it all, and they’re all wrong. It’s your tax dollars, so nothing is too expensive, besides, they print their own money, so that’s a silly thing to say. It’s just like a terrorist cell, and everyone operates on a “need to know basis”. People have Santa hoax every year, and look how many people are “in on that”, All those couriers, delivering packages to homes are in on this hoax, department stores, and school teachers, and all manner of “fine, upstanding citizens” are “in on it”.
....and it’s not even an *organized* hoax, funded by one organization and controlled, it’s just a word-of-mouth, shoot-from-the-hip hoax, and it works every year on tons of kids… And this is where we hear that “grown-ups wouldn’t fall for hoaxes, only children do”. That’s precisely why adults do.
Reporters just read teleprompters that roll the scripts produced by Tavistock and CoIntelPro, just paid puppets, hired to “shape and mold public opinion, both foreign and domestic”. And whenever a TV watcher opens his or her mouth, it becomes readily apparent, their programming and parroting is pert-near flawless. And how sweet of the reporters to thank them for a “tuning in“ to their “programming“, and their top “stories“... after first counting their mind down into a state of alpha, of course. Alpha, where their subconscious will readily except everything streamed visually and audibly, at flicker rates and frequencies perceptible and imperceptible.
And all of that was in the very first TV patent. They’ve made enormous strides, enormous ones since then... you should see what they’ve done with schematics and what they can do if they have your DNA. That happens to be a frequency, too...a very specific one.

It is a complicated story. I had to watch it several times and only when I watched it with a friend who helped me, did I get it. Once I stopped in Banning for a cup of coffee and a piece of pie just because of this movie.

Thanks PizzaFlix. Good movie, good acting throughout and story line was good with no punches pulled, Obviously the swanny whistle was a terrible idea and the way he kept beating up on that one woman was a bit disturbing seen in 2020...Or possibly even 1950,

I haven't seen this one. The story was good. The illuminious poisoning I hadn't heard of in a long time which made the mystery even more mysterious. It also gave that post wwii into space age idea notoriety. That intriguing concept was all over at this time.

All these Film Noir movies should be in the public domain but sadly they are not.

Why should they be in the public domain? Why should we value them less than newer products that are often grossly inferior?

PizzaFlix, I can’t comment on all your movies I’ve watched, you’ll think I’m a stalker, but this is one of my favourites. Great story, great acting and holds your attention all the way through. Must watch for you guys who are put off by the title. You won’t regret it.
