love Charley Chan for many years, many years. am happy to see his movies being released again. especially for free viewing to us seniors. thank you so much God bless
I was just thinking the exact same thing when I read your comment. Also I like both Chan actors equally. ( just like I love both actors who played Watson in Jeremy Brett Holmes series)
I like how they bring the war into these movies. It irritated people to have it ignored, unlike the Great Depression when audiences went to the movies specifically to ignore reality as long as they could.
watched as much charlie chan as I could, enjoying the various actors interpretations. this was one of my favourites, so an excellent start to my next reunion with charlie. big thank you to provider, 😀🐈⬛
Charlie Chan going to the scene of the crime, alone? No comic relief, no bumbling to make him appear brilliant? Whew, Jimmy just showed up to save the day - just like Mighty Mouse. I knew Hollywood wouldn't let me down.
Charlie Chan movies were featured extensively on the local Detroit stations along with Sherlock Holmes with Basil Rathbone. Loved both actors , Warner Oland and Sydney Toler. These movies are a treat compared to the crap Hollywood puts out nowadays.
I have watched this movie many times. It is one of my favorites, but there are significant holes in the plot that I haven’t figured out. But I just shrug my shoulders and keep watching. Beautiful cinematography though. And the old woman is a great character actress. And the dialogue is great. But don’t try to figure out the details of the plot.
What I can't figure out is WHO was in the suit of armor that grabbed Mr. King at the very end???? Jimmy had been pushed down stairs. Still....love all Charlie Chan movies.
It was the gaunt looking guy who showed up looking for professor Gleason. He had been part of the plot to blackmail Manderly out of his money by making him think his wife really was poisoning people.
This was the last of the 20th Century Fox Chan productions. The series had been popular, but with the advent of WWII, the studio decided to stop making B films. What a shame. The Fox productions were far superior to the later Monogram ones.
if you add the( :) to your time blooper it will put a live link to that exact 'time stamp'. Like this: 1:45 I saw it too, the ax coming into the shot. (but put a second or so earlier, so we can prep to see it on the clickable time stamp)

I am confused. Who was man in the armor who grabbed the bad guy from behind so that he could be handcuffed. He wasn't a good guy as he pushed Detective Chan's son down the stairs.
So they stretched it to 16x9 to fill your screen, then stuck their logo on the entire movie cause they're so proud of how they butchered this film . . .
Copyright laws should nail them. Sadly thieves everywhere, not an original idea among them. The distortion in this one ruins it. They have no clue of quality they only destroy it.
Another example of desecration masquerading as preservation. If you change the aspect ratio of the original, you render it virtually unwatchable. Especially if it's out of focus and massively compressed. Ohmygoodness this is awful!

As Charlie Chan might put it Old films better than modern films more class. Thanks for posting.

Marvellous absolutely marvellous I bet everyone enjoyed this movie😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅ISure did👍🏼
I've always loved him and Sherlock Holmes both have a great mind
Oh yes, to have even part of brain
When I was a kid, watching this for the first times I always thought Charlie Chan was a real person.
Charlie Chan is based off a real person.

You mean he isn’t? 😂 I thought so too…. Would still like to think so!

Lots of fun! TCM hardly ever shows Charlie Chan. It must be too politically incorrect to do so. Thanks!

Good question!
It was the gaunt looking guy who showed up looking for professor Gleason. He had been part of the plot to blackmail Manderly out of his money by making him think his wife really was poisoning people.
Chan suggests his sentence might be lessened if he were to help at that moment.
Wasn't it the little detective who arrived later?
@@butterflybud1 Yeah, you may be right on that
You played music. I wanted to hear the engine! I can listen to music all day long.

Right in the beginning of the movie, at 147, did anybody notice a major blooper? Just before the scene cuts, a camera moves in from the right.
it's knights armor holding an axe of some sort
@@poopypants814
Oh. Ok. Sure had me fooled!
Only single cameras used for filming in those days. It was Desi Arnez and Lucile Ball who pioneered the multiple camera format for “I Love Lucy”.

Jimmy Chan's number 2 son was more of an annoyance than Benson Fong and Keye Luke.
Plot A little confusing.
So they have taken Mr Morland out of the film??
🦤💩🤡
Mr. Moreland came in later ones. I think he started in the next one.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
20 bucks was alot of money back in those days
If only someone can upload it with crisp quality and colour
dear one, this was made in black and white... sometimes they can 'colorize' these movies to add in color, but it's not the same.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Aspect ratio changed for modern screen means poor resolution. Poor Charlie sports a broad beam.
I knew this was going to be a good movie when I saw that Herschel was in charge of gowns.🙄
Too bad Columbo wasn' t there...
I am confused. Who was man in the armor who grabbed the bad guy from behind so that he could be handcuffed. He wasn't a good guy as he pushed Detective Chan's son down the stairs.
Detheridge, the professor of Medieval History. He pushed Jimmy down the stairs because he didn't know it was Jimmy.

This is unwatchable with the gigantic gold movies icon on the screen. What a pity. No need for it in the upper right corner.
Would you prefer it in the lower left corner?🙄
Let's compromise on this. **Just put it right in the center and we'll all be happy.
