- Keltbray’s demolition of the former Earls Court I and II exhibition centres to ground level is now complete, after nearly two years of intensive work on the site. Demolition first began in 2014 and since that time 99% of waste from the site have been reused or recycled.
Have only just discovered that this iconic and much loved exhibition centre has been demolished, presumably it was considered too old and thus outmoded for the 21st century, although the demolition pictures showed it to be in good order. All in the name of progress, I hear the owners and planners say, but more likely the decision was taken by those that stood to gain from making precious land available for the building of yet more exotic tower blocks for the wealthy to occupy. As a teenager in the 1950's, I used to travel from Kent by train with my bicycle and visit Earls Court for the Motor Shows and various other exhibitions - it was a real adventure - so sad to learn of its demise
they abandoned the project ,it's just an empty plot of land. Probably due to Brexit
@@bonnaffouxm2877 hi there is it still an empty plot of land where earls court stood
Thanku for replying such an iconic building demolished and still an empty plot
Were the new houses/,apartments ever built ?
Yeah I used to go to the MPH show every year
But, today, there's no more the Earls Court!? I had the dream of knowing the last place where Pink Floyd played
I was there for Pink Floyd. very sad its gone.
@@AdeSwat Yeah, even though I never saw the Pulse concert in 1994 in person as I was out of the country for some time when I was a kid, Earls Court holds a special place in my heart as the Pulse concert was the first real experience I had with Pink Floyd when I was a young Teen watching them on VHS, I can imagine this video stirs up Nostalgic feelings
went to olympia ideal home exhibition (was at the iconic earls court) EC held up to 20,000 compared to olympia at 4,000 visitors.. soo disappointed felt like we paid entrance fee for a bazaar.. No built up show houses no, likes of george clark's etc no interior designers, decent chefs tit for tat stalls, nothing unique for xmas prezzies, came home with nothing... had so many fond memories at earls court events, boxing, boat shows, motor shows..
shame on you Kensington and Chelsea.. R.I.P..
demolishing 16% of all UK Exhibition space against a backdrop of Brexit, to build luxury flats that few can afford and many would not want in a gift: smart
its creating needed jobs for people and business for suppliers and other companies associated with the project, and all these bring taxes into the coffers. Why do you dwell on the negatives and refuse to acknowledge the obvious positives all around it ?
Because you don't care about preserving anything from the past. It's all about the now.
It really is sad. Such a significant contribution to the well-being of the community. It was used as a refugee camp during WW1. And served as a phenomenal artistic outlet for decades.
What's the "against a backdrop of Brexit" meant to mean ?
Just seems like trying to tie two events together.

- Let's knock down St. Paul's Cathedral next then. Then maybe Houses of Parliament.
Had many a great time at Earls Court when I was younger. Sadly gone and taken away from us, no thanks to bloody Boris Johnson :(
You and me both.
I never knew that clown was responsible for tearing down Earls Court. Just confirms how much of a huge SOB he really is
I used to travel down and work on the exhibitions week after week......great fun times I had as a young guy!
Have they demolished the whole area of Earls Court ? It used to be a very lovely area .
no just the exhibition centres. And now with Brexit they abandoned the project, so there's a huge plot of land in the middle of Earl's Court serving no purpose.
@@bonnaffouxm2877 .. but what does it have to do with Brexit if I may ask ?
Why don't they rebuild the exhibition?@@bonnaffouxm2877
What kind of mentality demolish an iconic landmark like this beautiful exhibition? Must be a sick mentality.
KURWA Why they demolited the Exhibition Center?
As a child I "ADORED" going to the Ideal Home exhibitions every year at earls court, loved seeing real full size houses, you could go into, with laid out gardens, and so many new exiting products, the 1970's cpmpany's cared about promo items I got great brochures, free badges, tee shirts, vouchers for products, my Mum and I used to buy lots of new things from it every year, the staff on every stand were all so friendly, customer care was excellent, so many happy memories of that wonderful place, so sad to see it go, so that greedy developers can make big bucks, the building should of been listed to protect it, it was old enough, but no the rich do as they like, and destroy it to replace with modern tat that will last a fraction of the time, more of my and so many other peoples happy past of a place we all loved, wiped away, for profit, well done on destroying another iconic, loved London Landmark, persoally I am not impressed, maybe you could knock down the houses of Parliament or Buckingham palace, next time be nice to see the rich loose something they loved.for a change.
Sir Oswald and the biggest indoor political meeting of all time anywhere in the world, now gone. Very sad on every level.
It was all for nothing, the project fell through and it's still an empty plot of land. Such a disgusting waste, and all for modern mediocrity!
This was an awful thing to do happy memories going there growing up boat show ideal home plus more. Shame on the London mayor, as feels earls court was a national treasure.
