Since that evil b*stard Sadiq Khan has been in power London has lost SO MUCH of its history and heritage thanks to him HE MUST GO! I cannot believe they are taring down Earls Cort for MORE bloody houses. Why not REFURBISH and modernise this historic building. Tearing it down is going to be BUILDING ONE HUGE SLUM! I havent been back to London for many years as it breaks my heart what Khan is destroying in OUR capitol.

Taking down the gas holder in Gothenburg, in a tight space, other methods were used. The tank was lifted by jacks, the lower part, some 3 meters, was cut off. Then it was lowered and the jacks took a new grip.

I worked on the design and saw the completion of this station, This station and its boilers could have been retrofitted to burn LNG , now we are in a situation with a power shortage that will not go away any time soon, to think of all the heavy industries that have been decimated along with their work forces is a disgrace. But like many things the politicians are guided by those who have never had a real job. Companies such as C.A. Parsons , and GEC/English Electric are no more, and the skills that they contributed to our country are GONE, nothing to be proud about.

Great angles to see shaped charges going off, then the kicker charges. Sandbags help contain flying debris. Black coal dust from years of operations was far greater than the smoke from explosives. Picture perfect use of explosives. Neighbors got a front row seat which is always exciting on any explosive demolition. It's always amazing to see tall chimneys come apart even before hitting ground. As the ends are accelerating towards the ground, centrifical forces actually pull sections apart. Also, the faster they fall, the stronger the wind current becomes. They are well past 100 kmh, which also tears sections apart. When they hit ground, all that is left is a long and very thin line of debris. Like structures, chimneys are mostly air. Debris gets packed, the air goes away. No birds were harmed making this video, they flew away the second the shaped charges went off.

It is more economical to demolish everything at once because there is only one big cleanup afterwards. If done structure by structure, it would involve many cleanups after each. Neighbors are generally more happy because there is less noise, dust, and vehicles in their areas. When possible, explosive demolition is preferred.

Great vantage point.... it is Picture Perfect and this is a By The Book Example of controlled explosive implosion. You can really see where and how explosives are used to bring down this 73 meter tall gas holding tank. Sandbags are used to contain fragments from the linear shaped charges and stick kicker charges. Bottom exterior shell of tank has been partially removed exposing structural columns. Those have been pre-notched in 2 places. Linear shaped charges are used to slice out large pieces of the columns. Following shaped charges, stick kicker charges knock cut column sections just cut away from rest of column allowing gravity to pull everything down. This is like cutting a V in the trunk of a tree you want to fall in certain direction. There is a large area above base where steel shell has been cut both diagonal and horizontal along 2nd elevated maintenance walkway. Shaped charges are placed to cut columns and walkway which acts like a round tension ring. This is all done to also bring structure down in predetermined direction, kind of like felling a tree with front and back cuts. This larger hole acts like a vent, allowing trapped air to escape. It also allows structure to partially collapse on itself, reducing how far out it falls. The higher charges are also surrounded by sandbags to control shrapnel. Timing of individual charges are very tightly controlled with base first. After allowing milliseconds for tower to start moving and falling, the diagonal and walkway charges go off. Backside columns and shell are left alone. They act like a hinge allowing tower to only move and fall towards area weakened on opposite side. The ground has been wetted to help control dust and a spray-head is still running during the implosion. This is a perfect implosion and no animals were harmed. Birds got the memo and left before the blast button was pushed.

Hope the people that authorised this can sleep, should have built a Mosque on it to really ram it in!

I missed the event so this is a great video. I read that the Power Station was commissioned in 1960 BUT can someone confirm that the two chimneys existed in February 1958? I was nearly 3 years old and my parents were taking me to visit friends in Leeds from Kettering. I remember being awe struck by the enormous chimneys at that age. My mother says we drove up the A1 and the road passed quite close through Ferrybridge village.

Its such a shame that people have to die or get injured before anything gets improved Keltbrey is the best company I've ever worked for before I lost my leg which wasn't anything to do with them it was a blood clot, I would go back to demolition with them in an heartbeat
