1:58 - The double strike followed by the “bird” and fly away is pure gold.

"Show me their greatest weakness" - me to my DM using the hunter feature, ready to absolutely wipe the monster off the face of that battle map when they have lightning vulnerability

If you take the Grappler feat, you can take "pull and drop" up to "pull, grapple, fly up, drop" for a bigger payoff.
Love the concept overall. The Ranger dip could be replaced with several other dips for minor variations on a solid baseline.

Wouldn't he have too low strenght to lift a lot of the grappled creatures? Even with the Grappler feat, you could only lift an enemy 5 ft, without only 2,5 ft.

@@gequetscht1031 well, there's already the "no more than one size category bigger than you" limitations. And if a player actually wants to lift something big while flying, weight limits should be looked into.
I was assuming the player would use some common sense and only try it on obvious targets. The lich in the back casting spells? Yes. The iron golem protecting the lich? No.
But you bring up a good point. Some players will try the obviously impossible, and those limits should be known for those cases

@@gequetscht1031 There are no published weights in statblocks. The only thing that matters is the size.

As someone in a campaign switching to 2024 and already switching to new Elemental Monk, you might have convinced me. I'm playing as a Lotusden Halfling for 1 free Entangle and Spike Growth per long rest and was going to be 5 lv Monk and 3 lvs Stars Druid. Now I'll have to research the synergy that Hunter Ranger will have cause it might replace my Druid progression.

I had figured this too. Also being able to pick up weapon mastery and a fighting style can also be fun when playing this. Hunter ranger might be the subclass with the circustantially larged amount of attacks (attack, nick, hunter feature and whatever you'll do with your bonus action and this is before we even gets extra attack, since then we could get up to 6 attacks a round with any ''luck''), also grappling at range and whips are a vibe to me.
As for race however, while dragonborn allows you to use it more often, aasimar adds 2 more types options in radiant or necrotic helping you to exploid any weaknesses more efficiently.

If you the expertise in daggers, which have the nick property, you can throw it and not have a reason to get into melee.

I'm still eyeing just a straight Monk. If I want weapons, maybe a 1st level fighter dip. My new campaign starts in a week.....I just can't decide which way to go.

I really like your video, been 2-3 that I watched and your build works, they respect the rules, they don't use obscured ruling loopholes...
This one is a cool idea, but here some comment to make him a bit stronger without changing the flavor:
Since you are a monk, your monk weapon deal your martial art dice. So instead of a scimitar, grab a dagger. They are both nick (so serve the same purpose) but deal martial art dice, but the dagger can be thrown, giving you a range option the scimitar do not offer.
With only 3 ranger level, at level 14 (monk 11/ranger3) you can fly, Sure your dragonborn wing allowed you to fly once per day 9 level sooner...
Aasimar would also be a great option to fly once per day at level 3 and up (so 2 level before the Dragonborn), but when you reach level 11 in monk, instead of Heavenly Wings you can use Inner radiance (Necrotic shroud is useless since you dump Charisma)
Sure Dragonborn being elemental dragon fit the flavor, but an Aasimar adding radiant and necrotic to your damage option can be really useful.

Nice concept, obviously lacklaster compaired to the ridicullus power of a shadow monk/gloom stalker. So it is for the most moderate players who do not want to power creep their character
