      Hello Michelle
So a year ago, I rescued a mother that gave birth to 4 pups. They live in an apartment but taking them out is very challenging, because if I take 1 or 2 out, the others freak out and are highly stressed. But taking out all 5 feels risky as I live on a main Street with traffic. Would you please have a recommendation? I'm trying to move to a house with a yard but that's a whole different challenge.

Right now, they have a whole room as a bathroom (with a shower curtain laid out with newspaper on top) but it requires tons of cleaning and smells

I’m planning on getting a puppy though I live in an apartment. I’m planning on getting a grass patch for the balcony to get the puppy used to going on grass. Thank you for this video

I use high value treats and ask my pups to sit or lay down while on elevator. This seems to distract them while they have that long ride down without having accidents

What are good tips for someone who works full time and lives in an apartment? How best to setup a specific potty spot while away?

My puppy and I made pretty good progress with litterbox training. I reward her daily with praise which she enjoys with excitement. But sunday, her 1 yr birthday she has literally woke up and through litterbox training out the window. She has started peeing and pooping on my floors. She lays in her litterbox instead. I'm so frustrated. I need some solid advise

We recommend teaching her to go potty outside. It's never too late to teach this to her! You can follow the potty training fundamentals we advise in this free kit:

Hi! Thank you for the video!
One question, all potty training I saw around youtube, talks only about potty training for peeing.
What about poop? How can I train my puppy to poop on the pee mats indoor?
For many reasons I’m not able to bring my puppy outside whenever she wants to poop, so indoor would be the best option for me.
    Thank you!

We don't recommend pee pads for poo or for pee. Teaching a dog to go to the bathroom inside leads to a lifelong habit that most humans find frustrating. You could use a grassy patch out on a patio or deck as an alternative to going all the way outside.

i've already made mistake by starting with potty pads....just got a 2 month old terrier mix from a rescue. My husband and I are 65 yr old seniors set in our own ways...now we have to be constantly watching the puppy....we are trying. Big thing im worried about is transitioning from pads to outside potty. we live in a condo.

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  Рік тому +1

It's OK Linda, you can just ditch the pads and start like it's a brand new day! Just follow the advice in this video, having lots of patience and you'll get there!

We live in a condo with an attached garage. Our potty path is to go down the stairs and out into the garage where I have a large dog toilet tray and have placed a fresh patch in the tray. I have gated off the toilet area as recommended. Is it okay to use an attached garage as a location for our puppy to go potty? We could use the balcony, but it is smaller and is not preferred as we have it filled with outdoor furniture.

It sounds like a pretty good arrangement. We like the real grass and fence around it. And the garage is similar to outside. We suggest you don't let your dog have free roam in the garage, however. Use it strictly as a potty spot to keep it clear!

@@HowToTrainADreamDog Great, thank you so much! You provided us with the missing link, which is the fence around it. He's totally focused and has gone potty/poop on the real grass patch every time since. Your training videos are such a blessing! I will make sure to not let him roam in the garage and keep it strictly a potty area. ;)

So my puppy does have to go to the potty at a certain time at night. If you don’t live in a good neighborhood is I bad to let your puppy go on the puppy pads at night?

There are many downsides to pee pads. They will likely become a chew toy and they also send the message that it’s OK to pee in the house. Here is a great video on an alternative to pee pads that we recommend: ua-cam.com/video/A3VNebzVPro/v-deo.html

I'm getting my puppy in the summer and plan on using a grass patch in my apartment before my puppy is fully vaccinated. I wanted to know if I do plan on bringing my puppy (who will be just 8 weeks old) outside in a safe area to go potty, should I carry them down the elevator and outside since they don't have all their vaccines yet?

I have a question about living in an apartment where there is constant extreme weather. I live in the Middle East, and it is TOO HOT for about 6 months out of the year for taking a dog out. It is also in many areas not the best for walking and lots of cement everywhere. What are some tips you can give about what to do in these cases? Could you potentially make a video about living with pets in areas of extreme weather?

I live in an apartment in the Phoenix area and our temperatures reach in the one teens. I have to walk my puppy at the crack of dawn mid morning noon is the worst the shade is scarce. That is our shortest walk pee poop done.
