    My puppy is 8 weeks old and my vet said not to walk the puppy on the street are anywhere other dogs may go to decrease the risk of the puppy getting parvo! She said to let them pee or poo on the balcony and not to walk the dog for the first 18 weeks until they get all their shots so it’s not laziness!

  • @SwampTrader

    Great advice. We found sticking to a walk regular schedule helps the most. The dog learns in just days the walk timings and would rather hold on to its pee so it can do it outside in its favorite scenting places.

    Nice video. I live on the 5th floor and I am organising everything to get a Staffy puppy.
    So my approach will be:
    - stick to the schedule and reward the puppy whenever he does it on the right place;
    - if it is too late or for some reason I can’t go outside immediately, I will bring him to the balcony where I will have a “grass simulator area” 😂 where he can pee/poop.

      @@1000OtherFoxes hello 👋. I got the grass and pee pads for the first weeks. But in the end, I’ve thrown away the fake-grass because it was difficult to clean and the smell was horrible 😂😅. So I’ve kept the peepads for some more days and then reduced it to only have peepads in the balcony. She started to get used to let me know when she wants to go, so I started bringing her downstairs by elevator. Now she never pee inside home and I don’t use peepads anymore. I go every two hours +- downstairs or when she goes to the door giving me signs she wants to go out. Now with 5 months old, she holds better so it gives me enough time to go downstairs. (Continue)

    • @RafaelToscano
      @RafaelToscano Рік тому +1

      The first month was a little frustrating because of the vaccine and I couldn’t bring her downstairs, so i relied only on pee pads. So there were many accidents, specially because she wanted to play all the time with them. But after she got the shots I was able to go downstairs a lot and you get used with understanding the dog and the signs it gives to you. After the first weeks of frustration, if you keep paying attention and learning, everything works fine.

      Hello Puppybee! I adopted a 5 month old mini schnauzer. I want to potty train him because he does it anywhere in my apartment. I live in the 4th floor. Can I use a dog cage to potty train him? Like on the other side of the cage, it’s his bed and on the other side it’s the pee pad? Is it okay? And how many minutes or hours does a dog usually poop after eating? Thanks a lot in advance.

    • @PuppybeePuppyTraining
      @PuppybeePuppyTraining  4 роки тому

      @@shantzcruz7698 Hello! I would not suggest letting it pee and poop in the dog crate. Try to focus on a tight puppy schedule so the dog learns to pee and poop outside. Why first learn it to pee and poop indoors while you can teach it to do it outside immediately? ;-) Check out my puppy schedule: www.puppybee.com/puppy-schedule. Furthermore, I would suggest to give your dog the opportunity to pee and poop before giving it its meal instead of after.

    Thanks for your video! I have a question about potty training in an apartment building without a balcony and where I can't take her outside until she has all her vaccinations (due to a dirty neighborhood). If I use puppy pads until she is 16 weeks old, how hard will it be to untrain her at that point, and do you have any tips?

    • @PuppybeePuppyTraining
      @PuppybeePuppyTraining  Рік тому

      Transitioning from puppy pads to outdoor potty training at 16 weeks old can be a bit challenging, but it's possible with consistency. Gradually move the pads closer to the door and eventually outside. Encourage outdoor elimination, reward successes, establish a schedule, and clean accidents properly. Every puppy is different, so be patient and use positive reinforcement. Best of luck with your training! Hi, just saw your comment and yes, puppies relieve themseleves as sooon as they wake up. I'm not a dog trainer, but i have watched a lot of vids and would recommend, to take your pup outside in the morning. Well if you are at home most of the time you can be taking them out every 2 hours, but If i were you, i would keep some fake grass or mud with real grass in a cat litterbox and just put my pup there until they pee. Technically they're not using pee pads and the texture what they peed on feels like outside grass so it wouldn't be a big problem to switch when they are older. Also i would give 1 treat when they peed in the litter box and 3 treats when they peed outside. The pup should understand that peeing in the box is good, but outside is even better so they'd prefer to hold it until you go outside to get those treats. I hope that helps and not confusing

    We are currently using one balcony because we have a few on one floor.
    So our training for the Frenchie is unique.
    We left the closed Glassdoor balcony open to the rest or the house and our pup would use the pad when she's on the balcony but when the door is open she would poop all over.
    So we have two options place more pads in selected areas, close some door because we have a large 4 bedroom penthouse on the 6th floor.
    Or
    We should first just keep her on the closed balcony with a few pad there and not give her free access to the rest of the house without supervision and additional pads in the area we allow her to be.
    We've only had her for 3 day now and she thinks every spot is her pooping spot so we need to keep het on the balcony with her bed and training pads

She won't even go to the balcony. She has a lot of fears, so she's very hesitant to do certain things. I've tried spraying products they sell for dogs to smell and go potty, I've tried spreading dirt from outside, but nothing has worked. So what I did was purchase a 24 X 18 wire doggy crate and put a doggy bed, a doggy blanket, and some doggy toys inside it.
    At the same time, I also purchased a 24 X 18 solid plastic container with high sides that I customized into my new doggy litter box by using a hack saw to cut out an opening on one side of the container large enough so a Chihuahua can enter and exit it easily. Then I added an inch layer of pine pellets to the floor as the litter material.
    Next, with the Chihuahua puppy inside the doggy crate I butted the doggy crate opening to the doggy litter box opening. As the idea was that the Chihuahua puppy would sleep and play in the doggy crate but when it needed to eliminate, it would eliminate in the doggy litter box. Guess what, it worked like a charm.
    So for the first three weeks, I kept this up only letting the Chihuahua puppy out to bond and play after I saw that it had very recently eliminated.
    Then after three weeks, I slid the doggy litter box out about a foot and a half away from the doggy crate. Then I monitored my new puppy closely throughout the day to see if she was using the doggy litter box like she was supposed to, and she did flawlessly.
    Then subsequently, I slid the doggy litter box on each successive day a little closer and closer to the final designated location for the doggy litter box I had previously picked out. When the litter box was in its final designated location, I then considered my new puppy fully potty trained.
    In any event, this was not only by far the easiest time I ever had potty training a Chihuahua puppy, but it was the first time I ever trained a Chihuahua puppy without having any puppy mistakes.
    Moreover, a litter box, as far as I'm concerned, is not only the easiest way to train your pet because your pet essentially trains itself, but overall it's the best solution as well. As I don't have to worry about maintaining a set schedule to let my puppy out. I don't have to worry about whether it is snowing or raining outside or if it is freezing or too hot. I also don't have to worry about leaving the puppy alone for an extended time period. I also don't have to worry about fleas, ticks, mosquitos, or my dog getting a disease another dog left behind. I also don't have to worry about other dogs attacking tiny Chihuahua since she always remains inside the home.
    As far as the litter material goes, I highly recommend pine pellets because it virtually eliminates all odors and it is quite easy to work with. It's also far cheaper than other kinds of litter materials and does a far better job at eliminating odors. As you can buy a 40 pound bag of the stuff at Tractor Supply Company for $6.79 plus tax and you will use only about two to maybe three bags a year. Meanwhile, when a dog or cat urinates on the pellets, the pellets disintegrate into odorless saw dust.
    To make cleaning my doggy litter box easy, I purchased a sifting cat litter box as a cleaning aid only. So what I do to clean the litter box since I always flush down the toilet any solids as soon as I see them, is empty the doggy litter box in the sifter of the cat litter box. Then I sift the sawdust in the sifter into the cat litter box below. When all that remains in the sifter is pine pellets, I then empty the sifter back into my doggy litter box and then add about a scoop to a scoop and a half of pine pellets to make up for what was used. Then I empty the sawdust in the cat litter box from below the sifter into the trash since it is odorless. Lastly, I wipe everything down and put everything up until the next time. As I clean my doggy litter box out about once a week.
    Puppy pee pads are not only expensive, but they are also very disgusting.

      Shucks you should have a UA-cam Channel. I specifically did a search for how to house break a puppy on an apartment only to waste my time watching this video. Yes I know what's preferred but it's not practical. I'm not standing out in the pouring rain or freezing cold or 100+ degrees and I'm sure my Yorkie pup won't like it either. I'm a senior and not willing to go up and down the steps 20 times a day to take my new puppy out to relieve himself. This sounds like a great plan. Hey, I have a question regarding vaccines and taking the puppy outside.. I do not want to use puppy pads or balcony, but I know you can't take your puppy out until its had the second vaccine so 14 weeks old, but from 8 weeks to 14 weeks I want to train it to go outside, what can I do as a precaution to stop the pup catching any viruses?

    • @PuppybeePuppyTraining
      @PuppybeePuppyTraining  4 роки тому +1

      The question whether you should or shouldn’t take little puppy’s outside is an ongoing debate between veterinarians and behavioral scientists. The second socialization stage of a puppy’s life covers the period between 8 and 12 weeks of age. During this crucial period, puppies need to be socialized to fit in with society. In short, it would be very harmful to restrict your puppy’s world to just your home and garden over the period between 8 and 12 weeks of age. I think it is best to just take your pup outside and start the socialization process. However, do try to avoid parks and dog airing spaces because you know that lots of dogs pee and poop in such places. And I do need to say this: please note that you do so at your own risk. I cannot be held responsible for any negative consequences.

      Hey @@PuppybeePuppyTraining! What if we use pads/balcony while ensuring the puppy is socialized well enough by taking him outside to see the world and have experiences with other people/dogs/events while carrying him for example and by taking him to friends' houses?
      I know it will take longer to properly housetrain them but wouldn't that avoid the risk of diseases while also ensuring he becomes well-socialized? Hi Cathy, good questions. 1) don't clean up the pee or poop in front of the pup inside. It will probably think it's playtime and this will result in having associate peeing inside with something positive. You don't want that to happen. 2) In my books, I advise one to always take 3 weeks off at a minimum. Not only because of house-training. The leaving-puppy-alone training will take up a lot of time and energy. Especially if your puppy has problems with being left alone. Please check out my 4th book on amazon about how to prevent separation anxiety: www.amazon.com/Prevent-Puppy-Separation-Anxiety-Hand-ebook/dp/B087CP5494/. In this book I discuss step-by-step how you can make sure your puppy will be at ease and relaxed whenever you leave your house for a couple of hours. But it is important you start with this process the moment you have your puppy home. Especially when you need to leave for work in a couple of weeks. Good luck and let me know if you need anything else. - Robbin

    My puppy weighs 2lb 6oz at 15 weeks old has the bladder the size of a thimble I live on a high floor in a condo in nyc. It’s 8 degrees right now. No way am I taking him out to freeze I take it to the wee wee pads every 2 hours. You don’t know how to train a toy dog obviously. He will be 5-6 lbs full grown. We have a long way to go before he gets outdoor trained. Especially in the cold weather We use playpens in every room that has papers in each one on half of it. He is doing great. If we have him out of the playpen he gives certain signals he is looking for bladder relief. And I put him on the paper. He usually goes. I tried the grass box he just wants to eat the grass. Maybe at a later date. I’m afraid he’ll want to pea on my plants later. Congrats on the books and success but little tiny dogs require different methods I think. Maybe you can address different treatment for different breeds and temperaments. I’ve had several dogs in my life and they were all different breeds and different reactions. Hi Jack, that depends on several factors such as your own motivation, the origin of the pup (what breeder), the season (winter/summer), etc, etc. If anything is OK with the puppy (health-wise) and you are 100% motivated to get it house-trained then you can do this within weeks. Still, there can be an accident every other month but 99% will be outside.

      Hello! You have to walk the golden retriever, but you are 'kind of young'. How old is kind of young? Furthermore, you have thought of what happens to its walking schedule when you are not as much home as you are now? Let's say school, for example? Or work?
      I also do not understand what you mean by 'have it also go to the bathroom on walks?'.
      Before you think of getting a dog (big or small) you should do some reading to prepare yourself and know whether or not this is the right time and if it is this what you want. Raising a puppy costs so much time, energy and discipline. I go on walks with my golden retriever 4 times per day. I walk it in the woods where it can run 4 times a day for about 30 minutes each time.

      @PuppybeePuppyTraining  4 роки тому +1

      Good to hear the video is informative. Thanks. Yes, you can pick it up when it pees inside and you can direct it to the balcony. It is very much possible that it won't continue peeing on the balcony but now you have time to clean things up in your apartment where he peed. It is not guaranteed that it won't pee on you when you pick it up. Normally when you pick it up when it pees then the peeing stops but again, no guarantee, haha. Regarding your last question about unsupervised puppy's. That is the reason I advise people to have at least 3 weeks off from work so they won't need to leave their puppy alone for very long. By doing so you can always let it outside on time (most of the times). Good luck!

    Love to take it outside. But a puppy of 8 weeks is not allowed to be taken outside due to health reasons. Only after the full row of vaccins you are allowed to
    do this. My vet strongly emphasised this. If you don’t you risk killing your dog as it can contract viruses such as leptospirosis (believe me. Not funny). So even if you want to, you have use a balcony. Good thing about a balcony though is that at least it learns that it cannot do its business inside the house. I think the idea if of putting some grass there to make a more smooth transition is very useful. So can you please advice on how to deal with housetraining puppies that are too young ? I think you have no other choice but I might overlook something.

      @PuppybeePuppyTraining  Рік тому

      Many people ask me this. I wrote about this in my book. Here's a quick summary:
      Some veterinarians still advise against taking your puppy outside until it has received all its vaccinations to protect it from potential infections. However, this means that your puppy would be confined to your home and garden for up to 12 weeks, which can lead to insecurity and anxiety in the long run. Puppies are more susceptible to illnesses because their immune systems are not fully developed, and they also have lower immunity due to not being fully vaccinated yet. On the other hand, restricting your puppy's world to just your home and garden during the crucial socialization period of 8 to 12 weeks can have negative effects on its behavior and ability to adapt to different situations. It is important to balance the risk of disease with the benefits of socialization. It is recommended to take your puppy outside for socialization, but avoid parks and dog areas where there is a higher chance of exposure to other dogs' waste. However, if you choose to start socializing your puppy before it is fully vaccinated, you do so at your own risk.

First, get it the desired spot to pee before going to the balcony with it. Good luck!

    Random question can golden live an apartment?

    • @PuppybeePuppyTraining
      @PuppybeePuppyTraining  4 роки тому +12

      I've raised my golden retriever in an apartment the first 9 months. After that, we moved to a different house. The most important thing is not really how big your house is. More important is the amount of time and energy you give your dog. If you spend plenty of time on walks and playing with your dog for instance you don't need to live in a big house. Some people think if they have a big yard they don't need to walk their dog. Everyone should walk their dog to give him mental and psychical exercise.

    Im on a tight walking schedule with my puppy an adult dog i take them out every 30 minutes before i got the pup every hour with the adult. The pup will pee an just fine but pooping he will take small poops an than come inside an poop some more 😑🤬

      P.S we stay outside for atleast 15 minutes 10 mims after they pee an poop so they can smell around an hopefully relive them selfs some more. I was thinking having a well trained adult dog would be beneficial for the puppy but hes just not picking up on anything lol jack russles are somthing else my full grown adult dog is a pitbull mix

    I live in an apartment
    So I guess I’ll go down the stairs multiple times a day just for my dog to poop/pee 😂
    When I get the dog tho.. I have no dog Rn 😭
    😂😂
    I might get a pug or French bulldog

    • @dingowarrior815

      My advice would be get a Frenchie, poor pugs have problems with breathing because of their too short noses 😔

      if you get a pug and you have to go down stairs a lot, i wouldn’t really recommend a pug because they have difficulty breathing

    I prefer balcony, it's easier and the less chance your dogs will get fleas from stray dogs. Training could be hard now

    Can I use diapers

    • @PuppybeePuppyTraining
      @PuppybeePuppyTraining  16 днів тому

      It's best to teach your puppy where it can go potty. If you were to use a diaper it still doesn't understand where to go potty in the future.
