Gotta agree with Subliminalll here....I learned this song by watching videos of Cliff, by listening to the master bass track, and by playing to the song....it takes longer than looking up a tab, but in the end you improve more, and don't make mistakes in the tab.
From listening to the song on the album, you'd never know that Cliff was pounding the living fuck of the strings. And then there's the end of the song, holy shit!
A lot of bands do that . It sharpens (or raises) the pitch a little. Then the same song live may sound a little flat even if they play it a little faster than the studio version. I think a lot of it is just little attempts at getting their own sound.
@jake92195 I even play this on my guitar whenever I play to this song mainly because it's an awesome part of the song even if it's not done on the guitar orginally
@TheBassoftheBeast He recorded Ride The Lightning with his rick. I don't think he recorded anything with his Aria, since he didn't have it at the time. Also - in the outro it's just another guitar track mixed in, since they couldn't find space for it. And he used a morley power boost wah pedal.
@flavy1000 Good! I wasn`t so wrong ,then ... It`s a striking to the heart bassline... I love it..Thanks for answering!! Flavy (Note: I`ma woman bass player from Argentina...didn`t tell you first, in order you would not "despise "my comments..I`ve got a lot of that ...thanks for your answers!)
@johnthegreek178 You don't separate it.. Some albums were recorded all as separate instruments, then pieced together... You buy that version of the album and it's just like that
@Toony678 Yes, he is somewhat sloppy, but nobody before him played bass like this. It was very innovative. Before Cliff nobody played the bass that fast with guitar effects pedals and used the bass as a lead instrument rather than just low end support and time keep.
@bullshitproof He is using a Wah pedal (not sure witch one), a big muff distortion box and some heavy reverb. That should make it sound like him (: He also uses some effects he has on his Aria bass. As example, the outro.
@SpectralUltra It`s a fuzz pedal,some of a wah and distortion... He strikes the string, and gives the sroke just over the rear mic... The intro, I `d like someone to tll me..i can`t believe nor understand, how that ·guitarlike" sound was made by Cliff.. Thanks
@AnaheimDucks1993 What do you mean? The songs in Guitar Hero are MASTER TRACKS! In other words - all instruments in a song have their own separated track.
@JtK27 Cliff wasn't that sloppy at all; you have to remember that it's difficult to compare him with Steve, because Steve played with Clive Burr and now plays with Nicko McBrain, and Cliff played with...Lars. Yeah. Plus, James is a machine with the rhythm guitar, so anybody sounds sloppy compared to him. Although I did read that in MoP, they recorded James's parts before Cliff's, so he played over those and the drums.
the intro of souls of black by testament. that bass line is on the same level as this. but i'll leave it up to the rest of you as to which one is better
@scottielovesmakayla FWTBT is not too hard to play (even if you try to play it the way Cliff did, it ain't too hard), but I can imagine it being hard to write a bass line like this.
is cliff using flats or rounds? causes hes bashing the fuck outta those strings but no heavy clank, but than again is pretty distorted the whole way through
@beserker1912 ...thanks!!getting closer to the truth, ja,ja...Cliff is now smiling at all our commments, I guess...with hapiness that we are remembering him this way... Muff pedal, and...Morley, that`s what you intended to write, perhaps? Thanks a lot again..now, the fact is to get the pedals... or imitatethe effects... xd Bye!!
yeah, but generally, people who use tabs (Im reffering to most young guitarists), when they use tabs, they just go all, "youre playing it rong, im amazing cos this is the way they play. Besids. Some players prefer playin in different positions then the guitarist does. Saying youre amazing becos you play it like the pro means youre just a non creativ copy-cat.
with just the bass it sounds a little haunting
I still think Cliff should've recorded the intro like in the '85 live version. :P
I'm not a musician at all, but if I should choose an instrument to play, I would play the bass just because of this.
28 yrs ago today..................
29 :D
Ren Stimpy 30
32
Still my favorite bassist of all time
Rip...
Best bit was 0:00 - 5:12
:D
no way dude hes too chill of a guy to do that. hed just play shows. tahts wat he loved doing not fighting ppl
always wondered what cliff sounded like..he was always too low in the mix! great upload, thanks.
wow the tab i was using is so wrong during the verses, thanks for uploading
My friend Aaron told me the intro to this song was bass and I was just amazed
Gotta agree with Subliminalll here....I learned this song by watching videos of Cliff, by listening to the master bass track, and by playing to the song....it takes longer than looking up a tab, but in the end you improve more, and don't make mistakes in the tab.
oohhhhhh: that TONE Fucking beautiful!
From listening to the song on the album, you'd never know that Cliff was pounding the living fuck of the strings. And then there's the end of the song, holy shit!
God...Cliff makes his bass scream like a lion.
@bullshitproof Ahah, thanks for clearing that up, he did use wah live though, as I'm sure you know.
@stenback31289 He made it kind of his signature thing... I for one love it! x)
A lot of bands do that . It sharpens (or raises) the pitch a little. Then the same song live may sound a little flat even if they play it a little faster than the studio version. I think a lot of it is just little attempts at getting their own sound.
Awesome sound
@jake92195 I even play this on my guitar whenever I play to this song mainly because it's an awesome part of the song even if it's not done on the guitar orginally
God of bass = John Entwistle.
@DaveinVein I miss Cliff too.
@flavy1000 Good! I wasn`t so wrong ,then ...
It`s a striking to the heart bassline...
I love it..Thanks for answering!!

Well, I love Geddy Lee, but I think they were more inspired by Geezer Butler, who had a dirtier and heavier style. Anyway, both are bass gods.
@bullshitproof He is using a Wah pedal (not sure witch one), a big muff distortion box and some heavy reverb. That should make it sound like him (: He also uses some effects he has on his Aria bass. As example, the outro.
from the beginning to 1:15 the best part from RTL
@johnthegreek178 Its from the GH MEtallica game.
@SpectralUltra It`s a fuzz pedal,some of a wah and distortion...
He strikes the string, and gives the sroke just over the rear mic...
The intro, I `d like someone to tll me..i can`t believe nor understand, how that ·guitarlike" sound was made by Cliff..
Thanks
@harle321; He is using a distortion pedal and a wah pedal
@AnaheimDucks1993 What do you mean? The songs in Guitar Hero are MASTER TRACKS! In other words - all instruments in a song have their own separated track.
@HAN56HAN Maybe because in Kill 'Em All he had to follow McGovney's lines?
@WeAreTheSickness
Nop. Call of Ktulu wasn't on GH Metallica i think.
@OverdriveSounds I'm using a boss metal distortion pedal and I'm getting a pretty close sound
Okay if we can get this bass track, then surely it's possible to get the one for the Call of Ktulu... right?
@AnaheimDucks1993 This is the real version friend. They just muted out the other instruments from GH
Did you know that the real bass track has Harmony on top, tapped Harmonix
the intro of souls of black by testament. that bass line is on the same level as this. but i'll leave it up to the rest of you as to which one is better
well thats why you should listen to the song while looking at the tab and if it looks wrong change it
@harle321 its a Morley Bass Wah :)
What effects did Cliff use for the intro?
Morley Poder Wah Boost and Ibáñez Tube Scream
@ffuckusernames they were altered in pitch slightly to match the bell at the beginning
@OverdriveSounds he used an electro harmonix big muff and a morley power wah
I'm not entirely familiar with the process, but basically somewhere between the master tracks and the finished CD, the songs speed up very slightly.
@flavy1000 electro harmonix bass fuzz pedal, and dunlop crybaby wah
@harle321 It's distorted bass and wah effect in intro
Epic...
@GRigori0s10 A wah wah placed all the way in the up position and a big muff.
@Toony678 Really? Since when did Steve Harris use a distorted tone with a wah?
bad ass slow bass!!!!!!!!!
@scottielovesmakayla FWTBT is not too hard to play (even if you try to play it the way Cliff did, it ain't too hard), but I can imagine it being hard to write a bass line like this.
@cursedswordsman James Hetfield? Yes he does.
@FinlandMetallica make them 5 :)
@GRigori0s10 you can get it on acoustic
Anyone know what effects he's using?
@harle321 Distortion pedal.
@bullshitproof I believe there is some wah to it as well.
Anyone got the tab for this?
@stenback31289 But without him, Iron Maiden wouldn't even exist ...
@nastyguard007 Ah, that would explain alot (:
yea, I'm slowly learning that the hard way:P
@stenback31289 You like only heard 3 songs right?
RIP CLIFF
is cliff using flats or rounds? causes hes bashing the fuck outta those strings but no heavy clank, but than again is pretty distorted the whole way through
Anyone have a near accurate tab of this on bass? I'm not that great at learning by ear and all these tabs totally fuck up this song
@beserker1912 ...thanks!!getting closer to the truth, ja,ja...Cliff is now smiling at all our commments, I guess...with hapiness that we are remembering him this way...
Muff pedal, and...Morley, that`s what you intended to write, perhaps?
Thanks a lot again..now, the fact is to get the pedals... or imitatethe effects...
xd
Bye!!
HA! I never noticed the little change up at :30
You spelt Geezer Butler wrong.
and wah. i forgot that part
@VideoMask93 James doesn't play rythmn guitar...
who cares how the fuck he created the sound, tone or whatever. Enjoy it at least instead of criticizing it
depends on if he meant to
@flavy1000 dont get the american muff, get the russian if you can. did you watch my video????
Yes, but youtube won't allow me to post the link.
@CabooseKilledChurch2 I would hate to be him!
2:55
oh don't mind me, I'm just leaving a timestamp for myself, for practice purposes
WHOA THERES A LOT OF DIFRENCES FROM WHAT I HEAR (damn caps lock) here and to what the tab says
@Maidenhead1996 lol at your username and your comment...I'd say cliff is a bit better...but their close IMO
@GRigori0s10 well i could atleast good luck :D
No, I mean John Entwistle.
My cover of this is pretty bad ass. just sayin.
@CabooseKilledChurch2 I'm sure the driver is also dead.
@flavy1000 get a big muff pi, the black one, and a morely power wah.....my vids should be proof that its a pretty close match.........just sayin yo.
funny or not, you are doing the same thing now
0:08 - 0:42 Is Your Favorite Part? Well Mine is all of it T_T
reverb
i think you have some problems
just distortion, look up an Aria Pro II bass.
I would say Geezer Butler over Geddy Lee... Besides, John Entwhistle was more divine than any bassist...
gezzer butler is better not saying that geddy lee isnt good but gezzer is better
yea....just look what it did to Lars....lol

Because people are stupid and wont belive that.
THIS IS FAKE .!. SHAME ON YOU!
