    I realize this won't get a reply but it's like this. You make anxiety a thing of science and chemistry. And while that may immediately sound like a problem... it's not. Anxiety seems so out of reach. It seems so... hyperphysical. It's amazing from a clinical point of view but being a sufferer of anxiety I can tell you it seems dark and almost demonic. Like another version of myself who chokes me or squeezes my chest don't to scare me. He wants me to be anxious and terrified. BUT understanding this condition... making it tangible? It's such a liberating feeling to listen to your thoughts and approaches. If it's tangible then it's within reach, it has a name and it bleeds. We can beat this and you (believe it or not) help. Thank you so much for your words and your time/efforts. You are a good man.
    TAKE CARE TO ANYONE WHO SUFFERS FROM THIS! We can win. It will be okay.

I have never in all my life gone to any doctor from cardiologists to general medicine that have never given me (us) such valuable explanations the causes and triggers behind them AND how to correct these issues without all the "pill pushing!" I tell you, I wish I lived in the UK I would love a heart doctor like you.....Im sure you are booked months in advance to have a visit with you. Lucky the people that are your patients. Truly outstanding! Thank you for your priceless advice Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!

    It is very reassuring when you said that you would more likely find it abnormal for someone to go 24 hours without an ectopic beat. That's a better way of looking at it.

    Thanks for continuing to be a voice of reason and clarity on the issue. It took me a long time of research and reading in the 90s to find the information you're sharing now. The good news is that people can overcome the cycle of fear/adrenaline/fear and lead more normal lives without the constant worry and stress of the sensation of those beats and the fear that comes from feeling that sensation.

I have been told by a psychologist that our subconscious brain is actually very active while we sleep and it processes at night the things that we think/and worry about the most during our waking hours. She said panic attacks at night are actually more common than one might think. That knowledge helped me, just to know that.. but maybe see your doctor if you need clarification or testing? I have watched all your videos on palpitations and they have been very helpful. Most of what you had discussed to reduce palpitations, I had applied several months ago. I have lost 25lbs, I walk 2+ miles a day and decreased processed foods. Three years ago, I eliminated red meat - including pork, all artificial sweeteners and reduced my caffeine intake. I also completely abstain alcohol. My sleep patterns are awful and I believe it comes from my battles with stress & anxiety. Four years ago I was prescribed medication for anxiety after the death of my mother. It did help but I was aware that it was a temporary fix and not a solution to my anxiety. The doctor went more in the direction that I had was experiencing post traumatic stress. Now, whenever I face an event that's stressful or traumatic, the palpitations are worse & mostly occur at night. This affects my sleep and the cycle begins. I have not tried magnesium supplements and after researching I am confused to the types that are available. Any advice on more natural ways to relieve anxiety and how to select the best magnesium supplements would be appreciated. Thank you again for taking the time to share your suggestions. I will also copy this comment as well as my contact information to your email.

      mtnstars the best ways to relieve anxiety naturally are things like yoga, meditation and hypnotherapy... exercise is also an excellent stress buster. i suspect that your pals will get better once your anxiety gets better.in terms of magnesium, i have used magnesium citrate in my patients but even better would be to increase intake of green vegetables

    Thank You I’m glad I found you. Having PVCs. Every 6 beats. I’m a retired nurse of years ago. Going for a stress test this month. I have anxiety disorder. All my friends are needing me to do for them I can’t get rest. I used to get Xanax and I had some from the hospital 8 weeks ago. They gave me 10. I have 5 left so I don’t abuse them. I had surgery 8 weeks ago and I was dropped in surgery and got lacerations with 13 staples and could not swallow solids for 34 days and since I could not swallow my pills My b/p elevated and went back into the hospital. There they over medicated me and found me unresponsive. I’m scared to have the stress test now and it is coming up.
    I have a hx. Of cancer twice and my insurance did not cover my Doctor that took care of me. I finally got that straightened out. I’m enjoying you talks. You are such a good Doctor I can tell. You care.

    Having put up with supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) attacks, once a month for the last two years, my cardiologist called me into his office to discuss the potential for catheter ablation. Needless to say, I was not excited by the thought and asked if taking a Magnesium supplement might help, to which I got a curt "NO" reply. Not convinced I immediately started taking 200mg of Magnesium Citrate per day. I really can not thank Dr Sanjay Gupta enough: To date, I have had no further SVT attacks. I appreciate only 3 months have passed since I started taking the Magnesium and only time will tell if I am fully cured but at present, I would say it's a good result! Hi Dr. Gupta, GREAT job on the videos. I plan on watching ALL of them and sharing them with my family. You have a calm demeanor and the way you explain is very easy to understand, unlike some Doctors who speak so differently than you. Anyway, I wanted to ask you why is the sensation of PVC's, ectopic beats when felt not normal? I feel almost every single one. I was just released from the hospital yesterday and the DR. asked me to tell him when I felt a PVC, well, I did that every time. DR was stumped, most people dont feel them. But, I think I do feel them because I have Ehlers Danlos, Dysautonomia and postural orthostatic tahycardia syndrome. I have always been sensitive to what my body does since childhood. Yes, I have anxiety, but I also have physiological anxiety which manifests itself with increasing the adrenaline into my bloodstream. ugh! My heart rate is usually 78-88 laying down, sitting up 98-100 standing up 110-120, then it goes back down to about 100, but when I am in a flare up, or I am ill, my heart will just RACE, and it will go VERY fast, extra fast when I stand. Pots syndrome SUCKS! There is no cure and I can honestly say that I am a positive person, but I hate these disorders because most the symptoms, it not all are so life changing. Just horrible. Well, Dr. Gupta, I certainly thank you for your videos and would love to see you but too ill right nw, money and your too far. :( Keep up the good work Dr. Gupta! All the best to you and hope to hear back :) Ps- Your puppu is adorable, I have 2 shihtzu's myself, They are so comical and so much company. They remind me of the Ewoks in star wars, that is one reason I had to bring them home, and that they totally rock! Have a great day!

    I’m experiencing heart palpitations and I can tell you they are very frightening the first time I had one I honestly thought I was having a heart attack but I think I’ve found the reason why I’m having them as a long time drinker of fizzy drinks and caffeine oriented drinks I think that is what is causing it so if anyone can offer some help as to what alternatives I can have that will not only help but maybe either strengthen or help my heart to be more healthy?

      You're being to hypersensitivity brother, its happened to me. I'm in my recovery phase of anxiety. I would always check my pulse or my BP 24/7. The best remedy of anxiety is acceptance of your symptoms and to face mortality. Everyone here in the world carries their morality. Its either quantity of life of quality. If you keep on worrying and just survive day by day you are looking at quantity life which isn't very helpful but if you strive to see the positive things in each day and ay least try to smile and laugh with friends and family you are using your life for quality. Quality will overcome your anxieties. Accept the symptoms once your doc said everything is okay, do some exposure therapy and CBT and you will overcome it day by day!

I smoked cigarettes and abused cocaine and alcohol heavily for years and a couple months ago I quit everything because I thought I was having a heart attack and collapsed and hit my head, I had a few EKGs done and they didn’t find any problems but it triggered so much anxiety that I feel my heartbeat pounding most of the time and it feels as if it’s rattling my whole body. I’m only 24 and I’m worried I have done a lot of damage to my body and I won’t get away from this feeling. Hi Dr Sanjay Gupta! First off I'd like to thank you for your videos, they're very informative, and I thought I'd let you know you're appreciated. I first started experiencing palpitations in 2011, where I went to the hospital and had a potassium reading of 2.6 and was sent home with two tablets, got my potassium checked later and they were borderline low, 3.5.. the doctor thought that reading was normal. I have now seen a cardiologist and done a stress test and I am due for an ultra sound in one week. However, I am continuing experiencing these palpitations quite regularly, even during strenuous exercise. My stress test showed no irregularities, I had to bike for 12 minutes, should I wear a holter or event monitor to be sure that my palpitations are benign, or should I rest assured that these are benign if my cardiologist says so after a stress test and ultrasound?

    • @YorkCardiology
      @YorkCardiology  9 років тому +4

      prockzz if your potassium has been low then it is possible that your magnesium will also be low and this could be why you get the palps. Worth having a holter (just to be absolutely reassured that they don't represent an abnormal heart rhythm)and asking your doctor about your magnesium levels and whether it is worth taking some supplementation

    • @jasonk8775
      @jasonk8775 2 роки тому

Same goes for every other abnormal heart palpitation/beat I was in the same position as you before I went to the hospital I was ready to give up when I had all check ups I came back home and made a change. break out that cage brother don’t get suffocated to the point you feel like you have nothing to live for I promise you will not have a heart attack you will not have any complications associated with your heart they may feel dreadful I know I get it but don’t get caught in that cycle. take yourself out that start getting out your comfort zone try different and new things you may have a hobby focus on that instead of focusing on the abnormal completely normal heart palpitations.
