- This Bucyrus-Erie 2570W dragline named "Old Glory" is preparing to 'walk' across Indiana highway 48 near Shelburn.
At 13-million pounds, Old Glory weighs more than 150 Boeing 737-700 jetliners. It towers 220-feet high and swings a 335-foot boom with a maximum operating radius of 300 feet, the length of a football field. This boom carries a 115-cubic-yard bucket capable of moving a 335,000 pound payload. The machine sits on a tub spanning 80 feet in diameter and walks with two "shoes" measuring 72 feet in length by 14 feet in width. The size is necessary to lift and advance the dragline's massive frame.
The 18 mile walk from the Farmersburg Mine to Bear Run Mine near Dugger, Indiana is expected to take a month. The dragline is owned by Peabody Energy.
This video was shot Tuesday, August 10, 2010.
Thanks for the information in the description. I was seriously wondering what its dimensions and bucket size was. That is an impressive, good looking, and I would figure, well maintained machine. Of course, this comment is 12 years later.
The dragline remains in operation as if this date, mining coal in southern Sullivan County, Indiana. At the time of this video, the machine had been freshly painted and decaled.
@@larrywanders Thank you for the information. I am glad to know that. I have loved machines my whole life and hate to see one get scrapped.
Formally known as KATE at Old Ben Coal in the 70s.!!👍
Wow, what a monster ;)
@trainfart Yes - a bit larger than the trains of which you have excellent videos :)
Why do they call the bottom a tub
