The drag line, a Bucyrus-Erie 2570W, named Old Glory is on its way from the Farmersburg Mine to Bear Run Mine near Dugger, Indiana. The 18 mile walk is expected to take a least a month since the dragline 'walks' at a blazing speed of 1/10 mile per hour.
Old Glory is owned by Peabody Energy of Saint Louis, Missouri. At 13-million pounds(5897 metric tons), the 2570W weighs more than 150 Boeing 737-700 jetliners. It is 220-feet high (67 meters) and swings a 335-foot boom (102 meters) with a maximum operating radius of 300 feet (91.4 meters), the length of an American Football field. This boom carries a 115-cubic-yard (88 cubic meters) bucket capable of moving a 335,000 pound (152 metric tons) payload. The machine sits on a tub spanning 80 feet (24 meters) in diameter and walks with two "shoes" measuring 72 feet (22 meters) in length by 14 feet (4.2 Meters) in width. The size is necessary to lift and advance the dragline's massive frame.
This video was shot as the huge electrically operated machine crosses Indiana Highway 48 just east of Shelburn Indiana. - Наука та технологія
The crazy part is. This thing still runs to this day and I happen to work where it runs. Thing is an absolute behemoth and a pleasure to watch
I was one the night shift crew moving this monster,I will never forget it , this went within 100 yards of my inlaws place and my wife and kids got to see me , i was proud to be involed in such an undertaking.
I believe my uncle Max was one of them who, ran this machine for over 15 years! Which I could find someone who worked with this machine! Brent!!
Great footage - cheers mate
Beeindruckende Aufnahmen, Great!!
Wow nice job.
amazing...
@larrywanders wow.. really this is unbelievable. Thanks a lot for the info :)
Where can a I find this as a video file to be used in a power point presentation.
@NickHey It sure is. It weighs about 13,000,000 pounds.
@larrywanders Now that i have started in the mining sector, i drive past one of those models twice a day :) And it is even bigger when you walk up to it!!
i worked on the road for that to walk on 7 days a week 12 hours a day for 3 months
@Manjula009 It depends on how far the machine must be moved. In this instance it "walked" under its own power. There are two 'feet' underneath that move the drag line backwards. The bucket is placed on the ground, then one foot plate is raised and moved back (see video at 0:57).
The behemoth walks at about .25 miles per hour or .4km/h
Hey Larry, could you please describe in more detail how the bucket is treated during a walk- is it placed on the ground for each "step", or dragged, or what? That is one aspect of a dragline walk that is never portrayed. Thanks.
Definitely not small ;)
Is this the one that got stuck in the filled in pond
how to transport this machines ? :S..part by part ?
fk that is big
Is that about a 10 yd bucket?
Its about 120 yards, maybe more.
