      diana guy thanks again! The way I look at it is; as long as you get the basics right, then all you have to do is let your imagination run free, don’t worry about conforming to expectations, don’t be a perfectionist, just allow the creativity to flow and then it really is simple!

    • @dianaguy148

      Yah lol I’m working on the basics. I attempted my first one the other day and well, it looks like geode on crack 🤣🤣

      +diana guy we (most of is) tend to be overly critical of our own work especially when influenced by something or someone else’s work so you’re probably being too harsh on yourself - you should share it and get some objective feedback!

    I am so glad I found you! I have been looking for months for a way to achieve resin like geodes without resin! What paints did you use with the gel medium? Do you use mica powders at all or just acrylic paint? Looking forward to hearing back from you!

    • @artistrobfuller
      @artistrobfuller  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Leah! Thanks for finding me! Yeah this is very simply a combination of acrylic pearlescent paints mixed with liquitex pouring medium and some fine glitter mixed with the same. It’s admittedly not as thick and glass like as resin is but it is a lovely, shiny alternative method. I bought my paints from a brand called Baker Ross here in the Uk but in general I find some basic acrylics work really well for paint pouring - there’s no need to buy the top notch paint if you want to work on a budget. Of course there is a difference in quality by all means but I’ve found the addition of good quality pouring medium like Liquitex is great for this kind of thing. If I want cells and more abstract effects I still say you can’t beat good old Owatrol - Floetrol. This geode style was cheap and fun to do and looks amazing and a lot more expensive than it actually was!! Any more questions, let me know, otherwise, have fun with yours and by all means share the results!

    Beywork did you put glitter in the silver paint and what did you use for the purple to get the raised pattern. Thank you

    • @artistrobfuller
      @artistrobfuller  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you and thanks for watching! Indeed I added lots and lots of very fine silver glitter to the silver paint and I used hundreds of tiny stones mixed in with the purple to create the crystal effects. Hope that helps!

    I love geodes. What is your recipe?

    • @artistrobfuller
      @artistrobfuller  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Alisa! Mine is simple a selection of acrylic paints, some pearlescent ones, mixed with lots of fine glitter! I also used tiny glass stones for texture and all the paint is mixed with Liquitex Pouring Medium to help it flow like honey. Once dried i add a thin layer of Liquitex High Gloss Medium to give it a glossy shine. This is a simple way of replicating those awesome resin geodes - not as smooth and shiny but a great alternative if you're on a budget! Aside from all that, there are no specific rules as such. I just went for it and it turned out really well! Thanks for watching and let me know if there's anything else more specific you'd like to know!

      @@artistrobfuller so its straight paint w stones no water or medium?

    • @artistrobfuller
      @artistrobfuller  Рік тому

      No I add Liquitex Pouring Medium to the stones first and then add paint accordingly so they bind well but still flow nicely like a thick syrup. If need be, I add water in small amounts to get the consistency I want.

    What is that lumpy purple stuff you used, did you put something in regular sparkly paint to make it like that? It's gorgeous!

    • @artistrobfuller
      @artistrobfuller  5 років тому +11

      Annalisa Ely thank you! I added some small black stone chips to some lilac paint I’d blended together with glitter to get that effect. Very easy and cost effective.

    What did you use for that corner of the purple with the Texture? What did you use for the picture and what did you mix it with?

    • @artistrobfuller
      @artistrobfuller  4 роки тому

      diana guy hi Diana, thanks for watching! I used some tiny stones and mixed them with some pearlescent paint and some Pebeo Acrylic Binder. I also used Liquitex pouring medium laced with lots of fine glitter to create the glittery lines and i added some sparkle/firework filters when I filmed a close up shot of the picture to really enhance the sparkle in the painting! I hope that is the info you were referring to - I’m happy to elaborate more if you wish, simply drop me a message on my Facebook page or via email or another social media platform you find me on!

    • @dianaguy148
      @dianaguy148 4 роки тому +1

      Artist Rob Fuller can I use Liquitex and some of the pebeo paint? Or do I need the extra binder? I was also thinking of pouring some clear resin over it after. Do you think that would work as well?

    • @artistrobfuller
      @artistrobfuller  4 роки тому +1

      diana guy you wouldn’t need the binder if you’re using Liquitex pouring medium, it would do a good job itself, I was just trying out the Pebeo binder to see how well it worked as a comparison, I’ll stick to Liquitex in future.

    • @artistrobfuller
      @artistrobfuller  4 роки тому +2

      diana guy as for resin, that would look awesome. But I’d let it cure for a couple of weeks first before adding the resin in my opinion. This was made for resin but I couldn’t afford it so I used Liquitex high gloss medium as an alternative finish. It’s nowhere near as glossy and nice a finish as proper resin but it’s a good alternative if you’re on a budget!

    What is the brand and color name of the paints you used?

    • @artistrobfuller
      @artistrobfuller  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Alisa, firstly, thanks so much for subscribing! Each and every one means so much! So for this piece I used DecoArt Glitter paints range and also some pearlescent acrylics from a brand called Baker Ross here in the UK. The darker purple is from DecoArt and the other shades I mixed myself. I also added extra fine silver glitter to some Liquitex pouring mediums for extra effects. I hope that helps but if you have any more questions, please don’t hesitate to ask! 😊
