When you break out the multitool for places that no one will see, you're at museum-level conservation and restoration of brickwork. Like it says in the old Audels Masons and Builders Guide, "When we build, let us think that we build forever."
Excellent videos. I can't describe enough at how in awe i am over this fireplace and the work you did. one small suggestion with the damper; that cotter pin in the hinge is going to fail if that damper is used often enough. You'll want a clevis pin through that. It may have been a temporary pin, but just something i can offer my knowledge toward. Thanks for the videos!
Cool project. Couldn’t imagine grinding in a confined space like that, let alone gutting it from the attic space. That formula 51 is good stuff, a little harder with workability, but you basically get zero shrinkage cracks and it is a superior product to chambertech and chamber coat.
Might I suggest a solution for the dust? We use a utility fan from Northern Tool. They have a hose you can drop it right in the chimney. Job looks fun. Be careful. Black Velvet Chimney Ps. After watching the video I see your fan beats my fan 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
It seems like it would have made your job much easier if the homeowner would have "sacrificed" one of the fireplaces, no longer needing to make it work, just keeping "the old look of it" in the room. ....Anything to make that labyrinth of divisions a bit less complex. Well.... if you can do this job, you can do anything! It doesn't get more complicated then this!
The shape of it forms the inside walls of the downstairs fireplace flues. It also allows fireplaces to be spread far apart in different rooms while stemming into the same chimney.
Amazing project. You would never see people do this type of work nowadays. You are a rare breed, craftsman

currently in Iraq but I'm a stone mason back home. Your videos are exactly what I need. Thank you
Incredible workmanship - this job likely cost the customer as much as I paid for my entire house!
TOTALLY AGREE on the cookies!!
Right!!
Nice work Chad! Looking forward to getting my chimney repaired.

Why don’t you use Heat Shield for the flues as it is a listed product to resurface flues?
Very, very interesting and informative! Thanks for sharing... 😁👍

Which bit did you use on the multi-tool?
Just a carbide tip
How many bricks and how much time for this project?
What was the purpose of the Apex room?

I may need your assistance in Sanbornton NH.
How is the boiler or furnace vented
I'm not certain. It may be power-vented.
That's true
Yes, I’m not Mr. Claustrophobia!
But they’re good in milk or coffee!
Are you ever worried that the brick will give and crash down when you stand on in?
No. I have faith in myself, not the brick.
