The scene with the hands is basically a representation of what happens after a one night stand with a woman and a man. The woman is still sleeping after doing stuff with the man, meanwhile the man gets dressed and gets ready to go, basically ditching the woman and saying "I just wanted to bang you" and so he leaves and everyone congratulates him. All his friends are proud of him for using a woman for her body only. Yes, woman do this to to men sometimes, but it is more common with men bc you see their "bros" doing handshakes with the guys who got laid when it's really not an achievement 💀
The hallway scene is reminiscent but opposed to a scene in the 1969 horror film called repulsion directed by Roman Polanski. In the film a hallway of hands grope and grab at the female protagonist reflecting themes of sexual assault- whereas In this version the hands high five the Man- I guess it’s depicting the way that sexuality in woman can be used against them be it in shame or sexual violence- whereas in men it is almost always congratulated and rewarded.

So fun watching you realize it was her (and yes, it was her)!! To answer one of your questions: the sign for "If found, return to Taylor Swift" is in reference to her music, specifically her master recordings. You likely know she tried to buy them from her prior record label owned by Scott Borchetta, and he told her she could "work them off," meaning for every new album she recorded, she could buy ONE of her master recordings. So she left and he sold them to Scooter Braun (and you caught the "no scooters" sign!). The scene where all her albums and the sign “if found please return to Taylor Swift” refers to as she didn’t have the opportunity to buy her own masters which had already been sold to Scooter 🛴 (her record label had sold all the masters/albums to him without her knowledge or awareness) . Karma is believed to be her hidden album by the fans but now its one of her singles.
OMG I just realized now he hasn't watched Look What You Made Me Do. It would serve him well to understand through that video why some fans guessed Karma was a discarded album of hers.
I think the idea w/ Karma began as Taylor just being Taylor. She dug into it deeper during tough times. She’s said there was never a scrapped album. She has already said what she wrote about during that time that she knew she’d never publish. Taylor, especially now doesn’t strike me as the kind of artist who would scrap a whole album. Back to this MV, I think with “The Wall” it represents, encompasses the whole history and story of her deciding to re-record her albums. All the Past present and future choices and consequences. Her first 6 albums are represented one way or another on the wall twice. Karma as a song …if fans nag her enough, she will give them what they want…in a tongue-in-cheek way. Again I still think it’s rooted in a bigger picture which she has hinted about in interviews along w/ nods towards specific works of art.
I love this…this gentleman was so great at picking up shadows, editing and different nuances of the video, even recognized Dwayne Johnson’s voice. I saw Taylor swift in the first scene. Just goes to show you, in life, we all focus on different things.
The morning shot of the “man” sitting on the end of the bed in that body language of regret and emptiness…just for a second..and the woman laying with her naked back and the big window only lighting her up. I would swear someone is an Edward Hopper fan.
That high five scene was how most men get high fives from their friends after having one night stands so in that scene he had a girl sleeping next to him naked
It's really worth noting that this was the first full video Taylor directed on her own. (Christmas Tree Farm is pretty much just a bunch of old home movies so I don't count that). She was a co-director before starting in 2019. Since The Man, all of her videos have been directed by her. Just crazy how talented, and hardworking, she is.
Lololol that was fun. The shock on your face!! Excellent. Yes to the behind the scenes. I can’t wait til you do “Out of the Woods” and it’s behind the scenes.
Hi Josh! I'm a senior in film school and i'm preparing for a post grad degree in post-production, this is the first video i watch of yours and i just want to say i really appreciate that you dive into explaining VFX techniques, color grading, blocking etc etc. Most people don't realize that being an editor means you have to understand the director's vision (and therefore techniques) and I think you really nailed explaining all the technical details from both the post production and on-set process. Ive seen other editors only focus on transitions and match-cuts, so this is a treat! Amazing video, im so glad i found your channel :)
I stumbled upon your content by chance and I absolutely love it!! It's not just that you have a ton of knowledge, but you also show real empathy towards others and truly understand the message Taylor was trying to convey. I can't wait for an extended version! And that "OH, MAN" pun made me laugh out loud. You're truly a talented and amazing individual!
Thank you so much for reaction to another taylor music video! I love your reactions and attention to detail, it's super impressive and even I'm learning along with you
Although she didn’t direct it, to me, look what you made me do is a brilliant masterpiece you should react to by Joseph Khan. Man I am a swiftie and I LOVE her direction and sense of detail, but her epic comeback, which to me was a complete pop culture reset, is something everyone should study, filled with Easter eggs.
I agree. I loooove Taylor's style and direction, but her Joseph Kahn collabs produced her *best* music videos. I wish he wasn't so problematic but yeah
She has kept certain um flairs or characteristics in his style. Blank Space MV is very symmetrically balanced. Kahn has quoted Kubrick as an inspiration, specifically stylization, framing, & balance we see in The Shining… w/ the juxtaposition of telling a story about someone going crazy. Lover MV which Kahn didn’t have a part of, we see the same symmetry in all the rooms which i really, really love & think that is one of many elements Taylor has picked up from people she has worked with to build up her own sense of visual storytelling. She has always been a great “student” in that sense.
That video is peak video production, a master class in direction, design, choreography and editing. Every beat is jaw-dropping (but especially the cut when the car slams into the pole).
I love your reaction it being her the whole time. The look of complete shock on your face. 😂 Also like that you didn't take offense to anything in the video. So many male reactors hate on it and think she's throwing shade at the entire sex, when in reality, she is just calling out the public double-standards.
I absolutely love the last line of the video. It really represents how men are told they’re perfect as they are with what they do while women need change to be sexier or more likeable otherwise they aren’t worthwhile
I love the line “and it’s ok to be mad” for men, but not for women. Men can throw tantrums and fight, but women are called ‘crazy’ and ‘emotional’ if we ever react or get mad.
In the subway scene in the beggining, you can see that the sign in the right side say BOSS SCOTCH: CAPITALIZE ON THE FEELING, and someone wrote GREEDY close to it. The owner of her old label who sold her music is called Scott Borchetta. You can do the math for yourself hahaha About Tyler Swift: that is the poster for Miss Americana, her documentary, directed by LANA Wilson, which was released during the sundance festival.
I find it's always helpful to put on the closed captions for taylors music vids haha. Girl FILLS the songs with words lol. love it, they're always like reading a book good.
Honestly, this was an awesome video (all Taylor's videos are masterpieces, I think she had a lot of control there, even before she owned her work), thank you for understanding her message, most men just get offended and go on rants about how all men isn't like that, and it's kind of exhausting, it's not like we don't know this, but most of society still favor men and have double standards unfortunetely
19:20 yes, completely agree that’s what she’s saying about her own life, but it’s also every woman. Every woman is docked in talent, acknowledgement, respect, equal pay. Some women more than others. It’s not just about her, but she’s using her lived experience to show just how ridiculous the standard is for men.
EASTER EGGS (i don't think anyone mentioned): 3:04 the girl in the yellow hoodie, it says "Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince." this is one of the songs on this album. Also Miss Americana is the title of her Netflix documentary. 5:39 i think the girls are wearing yellow bikinis because Fearless was going to be the first rerecord (each album has a color), i think that's also why fearless is written backwards on the man wall, it was the first of rerecords. 12:33 it's not an easter egg but the guyshe throws the ball at is her dad! *at this point in the swiftie fandom - the man wall has so many theories. some said it was clock and then it turned into an infinity sign. now that 1989 TV was released, an infinity sign makes more sense.*
I’m looking forward to your 5-hour analysis of this video and the BTS!!! I’ve been a Taylor fan for a long time but The Man video was one of the things that tipped the cup for me into full Swiftiedom. I LOVE that this was the first MV she directed. So so fitting. 👏🏼
4:30 I love that Easter egg wall! The albums on the wall were her masters that were sold, which is why the “missing” poster was there, saying that her albums were missing from her collection. They were sold to Scooter Braun, who she has a public feud with, hence the “no scooters” sign. I feel like the karma spray paint meaning is obvious, and you were right about the “Tyler Swift” poster.
i'm sure someone has said something already but the hallway scene with the hands is definitely a representation og men getting praised for sleeping with women but women getting belittled for doing the same.
I've watched this video so many times. At the end when you figure it out, all I can hear is Sally Field in Mrs. Doubtfire "The Whole Time... THE WHOLE TIME... ThE wHoLe TiMe " and it cracks me up. Great videos 😀
"Karma" is totally her f'ng with us. There's a pretty uniform fan theory that there was going to be an album named "Karma" after 1989, but she never made/released it. Some think she edited the work and changed it to Reputation, or she just gutted the whole project. But she's got ALBUM names on that damn wall, and karma is just front and center. "Return to Taylor Swift" references her albums that are still owned by Scooter dude. Then of course on the other side is the "no scooter" beside the two albums she's rerecorded. (It should have been pretty obvious to fans that she was saying these would be the first to be rerecorded, but I wasn't a conspiraswifty then) Last, Dwayne Johnson did an AMAZING job on Lip Sync Battle performing "Shake it Off" so I guess she reaches out when she had a spot that would be cool.
Josh in every Taylor Swift reaction: "I could go on for 3 hours about this...let me know if you guys want an extended version" Us every time: "YES PLEASE GIVE US MORE" :)
Once again your amazing knowledge and your enthusiasm = a really great video. I always learn something from your explanations. I would love either an extended version or the behind the scenes, whichever you prefer. PS: I love your SW shirt.

Just subscribed! Keep the awesome job :)
The Man pissing in the subway is not supposed to be taken literally (he's a rich man, he wouldn't actually take the subway). I think it's a metaphor for a rich man pissing on a woman's work (her entire discography is graffitied on the wall) Also that in many species, the male piss around what he claims is his territory, here Scooter Braun was pissing on Taylor's work and marking it as his property. Hence, the piss.
the missing poster refers to the albums mentioned on that wall that she didn't own when this came out and now she's rerecording them to own her masters
Por finnnn una verdadera reacción ❣️✨, casi todos los men reacciona de manera divertida y diciendo que es gracioso pero no se enfocan en el verdadero mensaje o trasfondo 🎉
The if missing return to Taylor represents her masters. And her album names are around it. Then scooter cause he owns them. This song came from the first album she truly owned

Dang! Can't believe I missed the scooter reference. Forgot the name, cause he's no longer relevant..😅
I love this…this gentleman was so great at picking up shadows, editing and different nuances of the video, even recognized Dwayne Johnson’s voice. I saw Taylor swift in the first scene. Just goes to show you, in life, we all focus on different things.
Taylor is just amazingly talented. She has such a creative force and she’s incredibly intelligent. I’m a proud swiftie
I LOVE I JUST CAME ACROSS THIS! The points she made have been PROVEN...SHE IS TIME'S PERSON **MAN OF THE YEAR!** ..and a BILLIONAIRE to boot!
You gotta give Taylor and the team credit - the practical effects (her makeup) transforming her into "Tyler" were brilliant.
The "Missing: If found return to Taylor Swift" sign refers to her masters being stolen from her. Another great reaction and analysis!
The morning shot of the “man” sitting on the end of the bed in that body language of regret and emptiness…just for a second..and the woman laying with her naked back and the big window only lighting her up. I would swear someone is an Edward Hopper fan.
HAHHAHAHA when you found out it was her
That high five scene was how most men get high fives from their friends after having one night stands so in that scene he had a girl sleeping next to him naked
it’s crazy to think this was her directorial debut! one of my other favorite video by her is 22 (she didn’t direct it but it’s a really cool video!)
oops! i meant “we are never ever getting back together”😭 got them confused sorry!
Lmaoo his reaction at the end was absolutely priceless!!! So worth it! Great reaction! 😂❤
Lololol that was fun. The shock on your face!! Excellent. Yes to the behind the scenes. I can’t wait til you do “Out of the Woods” and it’s behind the scenes.
Thank you! I LOVED this video. So well done! I can't wait to check that one out!
I can’t wait til you do too!! Lol.
Thank you so much! And that's so cool! Good luck with senior year and I really do appreciate the kind words! I look forward to hearing more from you!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm glad you liked it!!
Swifties do love a good pun 😹
Thank you so much for reaction to another taylor music video! I love your reactions and attention to detail, it's super impressive and even I'm learning along with you
I love this, thanks for your reflective reaction!
Also like that you didn't take offense to anything in the video.
Love your Taylor swift reactions!
Thank you so much!
In the subway scene in the beggining, you can see that the sign in the right side say BOSS SCOTCH: CAPITALIZE ON THE FEELING, and someone wrote GREEDY close to it. The owner of her old label who sold her music is called Scott Borchetta. You can do the math for yourself hahaha
About Tyler Swift: that is the poster for Miss Americana, her documentary, directed by LANA Wilson, which was released during the sundance festival.
I find it's always helpful to put on the closed captions for taylors music vids haha. Girl FILLS the songs with words lol. love it, they're always like reading a book good.
The fact that she actually made herself the man is so smart
8:16 Man getting high fives after a 1 night stand and women being called a sl*t for doing the same
I totally get that now. So messed up. Thank you!
Great reaction. We were all waiting for you to find out. So fun!
Yes please do the Behind The Scenes
19:20 yes, completely agree that’s what she’s saying about her own life, but it’s also every woman. Every woman is docked in talent, acknowledgement, respect, equal pay. Some women more than others. It’s not just about her, but she’s using her lived experience to show just how ridiculous the standard is for men.
Absolutely 💯 love your reaction when you found out it was Taylor playing the man 😂 Yes please to an extended version.
When he said: “Wow, Taylor made an appearance” I was like: You won’t believe it if I say!
EASTER EGGS (i don't think anyone mentioned):
3:04 the girl in the yellow hoodie, it says "Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince." this is one of the songs on this album.
*at this point in the swiftie fandom - the man wall has so many theories. some said it was clock and then it turned into an infinity sign. now that 1989 TV was released, an infinity sign makes more sense.*
this was awesome! great analysis from a different perspective and your reaction to the plot twist is hilarious!
Thank you so much!!
He was so shocked at the end he didn't even see that it was, in fact, the voice of Dwayne Johnson 😂
That's very true actually lol - I re-watched it and saw that and couldn't believe I didn't mention it in the video lol
My fav Taylor swift song currently
I’m looking forward to your 5-hour analysis of this video and the BTS!!! I’ve been a Taylor fan for a long time but The Man video was one of the things that tipped the cup for me into full Swiftiedom. I LOVE that this was the first MV she directed. So so fitting. 👏🏼
Oh this was a fun reaction! Yes, I would love to see an extended behind the scenes, your knowledge is fascinating to me! 🤩
Thank you so much! Can't wait to dig deeper in this! What a great video!
I think it was a hint to Taylor’s versions and I heard that Karma was supposed to be a full album
i'm sure someone has said something already but the hallway scene with the hands is definitely a representation og men getting praised for sleeping with women but women getting belittled for doing the same.
And your reaction to discovering this was her the whole time is so amazing
Lol thank you! That was a crazy reveal! What a great video!
@@Videoeditorreacts it truly was highly refreshing to get your perspective
12:25 right here where he breaks out into madness is actually something that happened irl and she was mocking it lmfao
im so happy you didnt know that was her cause your reaction was priceless
I've watched this video so many times. At the end when you figure it out, all I can hear is Sally Field in Mrs. Doubtfire "The Whole Time... THE WHOLE TIME... ThE wHoLe TiMe " and it cracks me up. Great videos 😀
Yeah, she reveled in some interviews that the MV for The Man was the first she directed herself 😊😉 Go TS! 👍 nice commenting too 😊
Yes, PLEASE do the extended discussion! I love all the insights into the behind the scenes stuff.
This video is so awesome!! The ending was a twist for me too!
i was WAITING for the realisation at the end
"Karma" is totally her f'ng with us. There's a pretty uniform fan theory that there was going to be an album named "Karma" after 1989, but she never made/released it. Some think she edited the work and changed it to Reputation, or she just gutted the whole project. But she's got ALBUM names on that damn wall, and karma is just front and center.
"Return to Taylor Swift" references her albums that are still owned by Scooter dude.
Then of course on the other side is the "no scooter" beside the two albums she's rerecorded. (It should have been pretty obvious to fans that she was saying these would be the first to be rerecorded, but I wasn't a conspiraswifty then)
Last, Dwayne Johnson did an AMAZING job on Lip Sync Battle performing "Shake it Off" so I guess she reaches out when she had a spot that would be cool.
The fact that you guessed the correct voice actor instantly lol
Josh in every Taylor Swift reaction: "I could go on for 3 hours about this...let me know if you guys want an extended version"
Us every time: "YES PLEASE GIVE US MORE" :)
Once again your amazing knowledge and your enthusiasm = a really great video.
I always learn something from your explanations. I would love either an extended version or the behind the scenes, whichever you prefer.
PS: I love your SW shirt.
Loved your react and your Mandalorian t-shirt!
I love taylor swift so much
My dear dude this was an incredible reaction, i work as an AP and i love to pick those little editing/production details on her music videos and i truly enjoyed this so much omg!!!! and i love how genuine you were the entire time, i could elaborate on the stuff you didnt get but i think everyone here already told you haha. Just subscribed! Keep the awesome job :)
That’s amazing to hear! I’m happy you found the channel! Thank you for watching and can’t wait to dig into more videos from her!
I love this reaction! Really this MV deserves more love
She's amazing, simple ! Great reaction !
I was so tempted to fast forward straight to you reacting to the end hahahaha. Yes do the long version!!
omg i was SOOOOOO exited to see your reaction at the end😂
Cannot wait for the BTS of this!! Give us all the details!
The moment you realize that she was in the whole video. It was perfect and I love you
LOVED the zoom out on “whaaaaaaat” after you found out the man was her haha
I was surprised too when I saw the last part when I first watched this mv.
Loving that you didn’t realise it was Taylor 🤣 also bonus points for your t-shirt!
the missing poster refers to the albums mentioned on that wall that she didn't own when this came out and now she's rerecording them to own her masters
I love his reaction to the twist at the end!!!
I spent the entire video waiting for you to realize that it’s Taylor the entire time! Her makeup artist did such a fantastic job!
Hello, I am a small-time actor from Taiwan and also a fan of Taylor Swift. I happened to see your music video reaction videos and really liked how you explained various aspects of filming on set, including the difficulty of creating with lighting and shadows, and expressed your amazement. I also appreciate your clear and pleasant speech, which is very helpful for English learners. Your voice is very nice and gentle. Your evaluations and reactions to the videos are comfortable and non-critical. The world needs professional film critics like you to explain behind-the-scenes secrets and to highlight the various artistic elements worth appreciating without being critical. ❤️
"the hand-painted scene" in the Music video portrays that, when a guy sleeps with a woman who gets away with it and is often praised, being called a stud or cool, but if a woman happens to sleep with a guy she's titled slut, characterless. The hand raised out here depicts people cheering him for it.
Who is going to tell him about Out of the Woods? He’ll have to do a 13 part series on that one!!
He high fives everyone since he's the man
Asking us to comment every single easter egg in this music video (or any taylor swift music video) is opening the floodgates to absolute chaos
Definitely dig in! And by the way, seeing your shock at realizing that was her was the best part of all!
