Fun fact , bud grant head coach of the Minnesota Vikings who coached the Vikings to 4 super bowl losses, played 2 seasons for the Minneapolis lakers and won a championship with the 52 lakers team,,
❤️ bud grant
Yes true fact
There are three dynasties in the history of the NBA,
Russell's Celtics, Jordan's Bulls, and Mikan's Lakers,
yet we never consider the Minneapolis Lakers as one of the best teams ever,
5 hall of famers played for that team during the years in which Mikan
led them to win 5 titles in 6 years (6 in 7 if we also count the 1948 NBL title)
of those players I personally believe that at least Jim Pollard deserved to be included
in the top50 and top75 players in NBA history, and not just Mikan
George Mikan and Shaq became really good friends, Shaq even helped pay for his funeral. I also noticed that the background music is the second movement to Mozart's Clarinet Concerto.
Former MPLS Laker, Bud Grant, turns 95 today!
❤️ bud grant my hero : bud grant statue in canada
The League created like 6 rules we know that, just to stop George Mikan from destroying every other team.
Fun fact: The Minneapolis Lakers have won more championships than the Vikings, Twins, Timberwolves, North Stars, and Wild combined.
I heard that another issue was the Mpls-St. Paul rivalry and that the Lakers got no love from St. Paul. Probably like 40 to 45% if the metro area is on the St. Paul side. This hurt and that is why every pro team since has been named Minnesota instead of one of the two. Now, most pro teams play in Minneapolis except the Wild who play in St. Paul yet they get support from the entire state.
they weren't getting people from saint Paul because they wouldn't rename them the minnesota lakers.
United Soccer Team?
The Minneapolis Lakers of the late 40s and early 50s were dominant and very good
*17 championships.
Fun Fact: Lakers owner Bob Short also moved the second Washington Senators team to Arlington, Texas as the Texas Rangers on 1971. Cost Washington Baseball for 33 years
George Mikan walked so Wilt, Russell, and Kareem could run.
Great video 👍🏽
I learned a lot from this piece!
Good video! Subscribed
8:46 lol you showed the Old Maracanã out of nowhere to refer to Soccer Football, respect
Damn. Your videos have such great production value. Really deserve more subs.
Interesting vid dude

Short form - when George Mikan retired, the Lakers quickly lost ANY fan pull, and their finances got poor for a while.
i think you left out jerry west in the list of who people think about when they ponder the lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers have a banner with the five Minneapolis Championships listed on it.
Also, both the Lakers and Timberwolves have a banner with the Hall of Fame players that played for the Lakers in Minneapolis.
If they don't have one, it wouldn't be a bad idea for the Timberwolves to raise five NBA Championship banners.
😂😂😂nah those rings belong to the Lakers. Doesnt matter where they're located
@@diablocls55 Lol the Lakers could just mark territory and troll like they already do with the Clippers
Also, the Warriors have banners hanging from when they played in Philadelphia (bet you didn’t even know they used to play in Philly). Should they give those banners to the 76ers then? Lmao
@@diablocls55 I'm not saying to "give" banners to anyone. They wouldn't be Timberwolves banners, they'd be Minneapolis Lakers banners. Yes, I knew the Warriors played in Philly, Wilt Chamberlain played with them there. They also won the first BAA Championship in 1947, while the Lakers won the last BAA Championship in 1949 before the merger with the NBL to form the NBA.
@@josephD32 yep, Wilt and a lightning guard Hal Greer.
0:30 How do you not mention Jerry West?
🤦🏻♂️
Das what am sayin

The Lakers originally selected Elgin in the 1956 draft - but he was also drafter by the Army, and his rights expired by the time he finished his active duty stint (he still had RESERVE duty his first year as a NBA player, that limited how many games he could play that year).
Big oversight by not including Jerry West among the players named at the 0:30 mark. Otherwise, a fine video with great background music.
George Mikan our first legend
The narrator mispronounced the name of Jim Pollard, who was one of the best players in basketball at the time.
The first dynasty in NBA history
My Sister is born in 1947 When The Lakers Started
After the Lakers left, we finally got the Vikings (NFL) and Twins (MLB) by 1961.
And no championships until the Lynx, which is also a basketball team
Being from Phoenix, the only team I could be respectfully proud of for the longest time were the Mercury (made me watch the WNBA). The Minnesota Lynx scare me right now.
@@splashnskillz37 wait what didn’t the twins win like two World Series ? Yeah the won in 87 and 91 🤦🏾
@@Blackman19498 i had forgotten
Basketball didn’t return till 89 I believe when the T wolves were born
Queen LeBUM is an asterisk in Lakers history. This whole time with him where he woked/wrecked the league will eventually be gone and I can go back to watching.
Woked? Don't be such a snowflake.
LeBron is the greatest all around player for longevity in NBA History.
@@DrJohnnyJLeChina and Hong Kong protest. Don't be so dunce.
Lakers old stadium still stands downtown Minneapolis
This isn't right. He said the Lakers won the first NBA championship in 1950. I wasn't alive back then either, but I can check the history of championships. The first NBA champions were the Philadelphia Warriors in 1947. The next year the Baltimore Bullets won before the Lakers took the championship for the NBA's third season. The season he mentions when the Lakers won 51 games would be the fourth year of existence for the NBA and the Lakers second championship
It was called the BAA before 1950. Then it became the NBA.
BAA titles are still part of the offical NBA championship list however.
You mention lebron, but NOT the great Jerry West?! WTF?!!
Yeah, it made no sense. He's the logo
So did The Rifle Man Chuck Connors during 1950's
when mikan retired no more people in arena, so they sold lakers to los angeles
You left out the LOGO,among others!
If 5 of those championships was not in la 5 of those championships don’t count js im js
Rep the city

Jerry West.
George Mikan.
Both AHEAD of Kobe, when Basketball Fans think of the Lakers.
For that matter, keep in mind that Jerry IS THE LOGO.
This means that with the 1948 NBL Championship the Lakers technically have 1 more championship than the Celtics, albeit from a different league. 🤪
The NBA does not count NBL stats or championships.
But the Celtics are looking likely to re-even it this year even if you DO count that championship.
