The Minneapolis Lakers dominated the early 1950s, behind star center George Mikan, but when he retired prior to the 1955-56 season, the Lakers struggled to find an audience in the Minneapolis area. Despite talents such as Dick Garmarker and Elgin Baylor during the late 1950s, waning attendance led manangement to move the team to Los Angeles in 1960.
The Los Angeles Lakers have 12 the Minneapolis Lakers have 5 I'm from Minneapolis and people around here still count those five championships they want here in Minneapolis and there's those who believe that the name and the team colors should have stayed here

@@jarvisjones9529 I think the Timberwolves should put up banners in the Target Center that just say Minneapolis NBA champions and the year they won it, do one for each year they won. And they should also retire Mikan's 99 since the lakers won't.
they also won an NBL championship in 1948 that one don't count. u count that they won 6 in 7 years from 48 to 54. they were originally called the Detroit Gems but only had 4 wins in just one year 1946

Never knew Minneapolis Lakers franchise came from Detroit...the Detroit Gems. And I've followed the NBA since the early 1960s.
