Hi Matt, Having been a photographer since the early 80's I've used everything from Minolta XGM, to Nikon F2, FM2, F3, F4.. Canon EOS1, EOS1n, DCS3, DSC520, EOS 1 mark 3, 5Diii etc, etc... So a lot of cameras.. my main system is still a 5diii and lenses. But the Fuji Xpro1 is my favourite all time camera. The ergonomics take me back to the FM2, (proper aperture rings) ... and it is just such a pleasure to use.. I get a buzz just shooting. The lenses are so nice... I have the 18mm (the weakest) 35mm & 50mm.. all f2 and they are sweet... The photos are beautiful.. both colour and b&w... I've made 40x30 prints and they are just as sharp as my Canon prints.. Well I can't see a difference at this size print.. They are small, compact and perfect as an every day carry... With the latest software updates, the AF is fast enough, and I really can't see what an Xpro2 would offer... I'll no doubt get one when the Xpro 3 launches.. and the price drops.. the Xpro 1 is a really, really nice camera...
Thanks to you, I now own Xpro1 and 50mm Minolta. Never knew that a downgrade of the equipment could be the best upgrade. Loving the magical images the combo makes. Can't be happier!
Im 6 years in with the xpro1 and i use the 18mm most of the time. I have a set of canon fd lenses i adapt, i espcially like the 55mm macro and 28mm f2.8. Thanks for a great video, my favourite reviewer on youtube.
Thanks for the review. I own an X-pro1 and I am still surprised at the results sometimes. I use Fuji and vintage lenses and the images are always quite impressive. That first gen Xtrans sports some real magic (Xpro1, XE1)
I shoot an XE-1 with the 18mm f2 and 35mm f1.4. Still loving it, never let me down. A recent XC 16-50 I wouldn't recommend. And vintage glass is a massive bonus. Same sensor, different body and cheaper now. Maybe a new body sometime soon but no rush required. Thanks Mattias, great video as ever.
After using the Xpro1 for a year which I bought at very low price, I love it so much especially with XF18/2 len. As you said, the colour is so so great. I use it daily now and leave my EosR & Leica X typ113 aside, ha ha.
I had one of these, years ago. It is still one of my favorite cameras of all that I have owned. I wish I would have never sold it. They are getting harder to find, now, and the price has started going back up, recently (locally, at least).
Matching the X-Pro1 with my new X-T30 might be a way for me to get into the X-Pro line without having to pay too much. I'm also a fan of the 27mm pancake. It was the first lens I bought and some of my favorite shots seem to come from it. I hardly see it mentioned or used though.
I love my Xpro1 even tho i have a xpro 2 and XH1 its something special about the pictures and colors in these very film like imo , and build quality and user simplicity are just wonderful , I use it as a "Analog" camera and use old manual lenses and just love it .
Hi there, I just bought one! Should arrive tomorrow. I d like to use it like a film camera too and buy some vintage lenses. My only concern was the ‚bad‘ EVF for manualy focusing. But I hope I can manage. May I ask how you getting on with MF? I hope to use the OVF more then on my X100T. What lenses do you use? Any suggestions? Thanks a lot, cheers from Switzerland
Love my XPRO1....I think the files on the XPRO1 and the XE1 just look better..plus you can screw in a round Nikon F2 eyecup on the XPro1 which does not mess up the eye sensor ...
I made a substantial amount of cash buying a fair amount of Xpro-1 on ebay all over the world ,after the Xpro2 came out. Because of the firmware-update for the Xpro 1 came after Xpro2, it was basically the same camera, but at rock bottom prices. It tells so much about the human psychological conditioning, and marketing . How to place the Xpro-1 into the original and the pro -2 as a copy. We all suck making a informed rational choice , and boy oh boy companies know about it XP2 is ALWAYS a better ticket for producing better picturer then XP1. My personal XP1 is still here with me, because its large enough to fit my gorilla fists. Its a substantial camera with weight , and heft, to it.
Hey Mattias, thanks for another relaxed, informative and artistically made video. I really like how you treat older camera gear and how impressive you show that these “old” cameras still deliver beautiful photos.
Great shout out to a great camera.I have a factory optioned version that changed the black faux leather to a cream i bought bundled with the 18mm.Excellent iq i travelled to bali close wide but sharp.i have since bought the 35 f2 anf 23f2 and they are quick enough for auto focus. The j pegs that come out are fantastic. If you dont have one buy it its a joy to use.
I have this oldie too. I find OVF simply indispensable during shooting outside in a sunny weather. EVF can't keep up with a sun but find this is a problem for my e2 as well. So yes I may buy xt3 but I won't ever get rid of xpro1. It is old magic.
The XPRO-1 is the only Fujifilm I have not sold. Combined with the 35mm f/2.0 I found the AF more than adequate. I keep it because it has something the more recent camera's do not have. Perhaps it is nostalgia, I do not know but I like the output of this camera.
It's so fun to use xpro1 especially with legacy lenses, ... jupiter 8 35mm from my zorky, A helios 44 -2 ... artistic results and a very unique cinematographic look
i just got one for really cheap and the original 35 and 60mm lenses. The quality and color of the images coming out of it remind me of the M8. Just amazing.
Bought an X T4 , then saw this , found a nice X Pro 1 with thumb rest & metal base 1/2 case A$500 , very happy a Joy to use Thank you for your lovely reviews 😎
I want one for use with my collection of Takumar and Leitz lenses. I'm using a Panasonic Micro 4/3 at the moment which is nice, but the Fuji crop factor of 1.5 will mean my old lenses will 'see' more.
Mattias...there are three different Fuji sensors. Each one a different color. XE1 Black. XE2 Green. XE3 Magenta. That’s why the XE1 and XPro1 are so good in RAF.
I bought mine with the 2 lens bundle for £499 when the X-Pro2 came out. If I sold it all now I'd probably get near the same price - which is unheard of in the digital world. The only downside for me is no diopter. I don't really like shooting with the display. Also, it feels vaguely "hollow". A bit like a Yashica Electro 35. I prefer a "denser" feeling.
Great review, but I really don’t understand why anyone would NOT use the optical viewfinder. I own an X100f and I hardly ever touch the electronic alternative. Except from in playback mode, because then I don’t need to put my glasses on to review my own images. Very practical for an old man.
I love my Fuji cameras; there's something magic about them, I own An Xt1, Xt20, x100s, x20, I'm getting an Xpro1 😎, thanks for your video, now I'm waiting for the x100s video 😃
Did find one of these on ebay for a decent price. Still a very good camera to buy if you don't care about the latest bells and whistles. The design is timeless.
I bought it last month (265 euro). I got 7artisans lenses (incl 55mm), 18-55mm and 35mm XFs and adapted Sigma SA glass. It's now my favorite camera re: handling. Heck, I even shot professionally with it last week. So much fun. And to be honest, I've come to terms with the fact that in most cases it doesn't really matter or *show* it's 'only' 16 MP.
@@gearreallydoesntmatter lol, indeed. Also, my main camera is a Sigma SD Quattro (slower than my avg film slr), so in my hands an X-Pro1 is agile and crisp, i.e. I'm able to shoot turtles in action now...tack sharp! ;-p
Some of us have faces worth hiding. I have the X-T2 over the X-Pro2 because I’m ugly AND poor. Joking aside, I like the in-camera tone curves in jpeg with the X-Pro1. It’s a big selling point to me. 16mp is my optimum sensor size for aps-c. I like small files that don’t need editing.
I was able to get the diopter I needed at CameraQuest. It's listed for the Voigtlander Bessa, but it got me back into action with the X-Pro1 after cataract surgery.
I have been using my X Pro 1 since 2014. I gave up my 5DMK II to go over to Fuji, first with the X 100 limited edition, which I immediately fell in love with, and then over to the XP1 which has been with me ever since. It's in mint condition and with the 35mm f1.4 and 28mm f2 it serves me well, shooting street and some landscape stuff. Once you get the hang of this camera, and you work with it as a team, rather than trying to go your own way and be the boss, you can get some very satisfying images out of it. It's digital, yes, but nonetheless old school, and you will need to get into old school habits with it if you want the best from it. It's slow, temperamental if you don't know what you are doing, and it will expect you, the photographer, to get it right first time. It's not a camera for people who expect it to get it right for them, so be warned. Buy one and refresh your craft. I love it. keithtowers.zenfolio.com/
First + foremost, thanks for this video and all of your videos, appreciate them very much ! Also, nice photography man, love your aesthetic and eye. Those shots with the 16mm + 18mm were dope, love a wider lens at times. Just recently bought this camera used for $250US, it's in the mail and I can't wait to use it. Been hearing it has a certain "magic" to it, we'll see..
Bought one (again...I already had two) last week, when I've heard Viltrox was about to release 23mm, 33mm and 56mm lenses all at f1.4. Hoping those will be as good as their 85mm.
I was waiting for this review, as i am just wondering if i should get an X-Pro 1 or X-T1, given that i have the original X100 now :) Still havent seen it, the notification just popped up, but i am writing this comment just to say how thankful i am that you are doing this! And as always, loving all your videos! Keep up the Great work!
@@gearreallydoesntmatter Oh yes i enjoyed it! And as every other review of yours, it makes me want the camera more! But i find it didnt help me choose :/ I know it's mostly up to personal preferences, but i am struggling to decide between the x-pro 1 and x-t1. The x-pro 1 is a little bit cheaper here, at 230gbp, and the x-t1 is 270. That is not a concern, as i will invest more in lenses :) But the thing i can't decide on is, if i want the left side hybrid viewfinder of the x-pro1 more, or the wi-fi + tilting screen on the x-t1. Right now i am leaning more towards x-t 1 as i never had wi-fi on a camera before, and when i had a camera with tilting screen, i did use it most of the time. But the x-pro1 is so appealing, and i am used to the hybrid viewfinder from my x100, plus the x-pro 1 should have a better one :) The other thing i am wondering about is, if i should trade in my x100 at the same time, so i can get one or two more lenses, or just keep it as it's a great walk-around camera :)
@@gearreallydoesntmatter I think that helped me a bit, especially as i find it quite handy to just transfer the photos to my phone via USB OTG+tiny card reader. And thats just if i have to use longer transport on the way back. Usually everything ends up on the computer, and not the phone :) I bet i will be happy with whatever i choose, and when i decide on one, i will always wonder what would it be with the other one :D Thanks for the answer though, at least it made me think about the "feature" i don't actually need :)
@@DilianVelev i have an x-t1 with a 35mm f2 fujinon lens, absolute workhorse, it's faster interms of autofocus and can hold longer burst rates with a fast sd card, as well as other bonuses like 60fps video, huge viewfinder, titling screen and iso dial. But the end i'm sure You will be happy with either.
I'm unsure why, but the 1st generation 16mp sensor in this camera always gave me better results in terms of detail, noise rendition and color compared to my XT-2. I miss my xpro 1
Picked up an ultra clean one for $375. Not exactly very little money but it so cool and built like a tank. Love the jpegs coming out of that first gen sensor!
Love my X-Pro 1 to me it's a close contender to the Leica D Experience. Must have film digital Cross over camera. Used with various MF Lens gives the look of film but the X-Trans sensor makes all the difference. Without the High cost of Leica M system. IMHO this camera is a game changer Fun to use as well.
Lol. Yup I sure found me a bottom dweller Xpro1. Demo model in some UK camera store for $499. Received looking brand new. Having a blast with this camera. The rendering is sublime indeed.
>the buffer fills rather quickly Yeah, but it seems to quickly become responsive again. That's pretty neat, especially compared to the Leica T. I didn't realize that Fuji was good about pushing updates to fix things like AF, nor did I realize the Pro had a OVF/EVF. Does using the OVF give it better standby battery life?
The 18mm is one of those unsung fuji lenses with a cult following. One of these days you're going to get your hands on the xf60mm and never take it off your camera.
1st: It's awesome to see you review this camera. I had always wanted it but never ended up owning it. A friend of mine has one, though, and loves it. 2nd: Are you ever going to do a review for the Fujifilm X-H1? I just searched your channel for your X-H1 review and realized that, though it made guest appearances in several videos, you never actually did a review of it.
@@gearreallydoesntmatter Nooooooooooo! I just bought one! I was able to buy it brand new, along with the grip, the extra batteries, some audio stuff thrown in, and a high quality tripod, and a remote release, all for a grand total of $1,100. I am happy as can be! I was really hoping to see one of your awesome videos on the camera, though... I even checked your profile on DPreview and it wasn't even listed under your "previous gear". Mysterious...
Great video but it raises my burning question of the day (for me), should I replace my X-E1 with and X-Pro1? I love how my X-Pro2 handles so there is a certain logic to having and X-Pro1 as its companion. The X-E1 has the same sensor as the X-Pro1, so it just comes down to handling.
Still love my Xpro1 even I use the Xpro2 as my main body. The only thing that is missing is the classic chrome profile which I use all time for color with Xpro2. The new Xpro3 seems to have a much better viewfinder and better build quality, so quite interesting.

Which one to go for bewteen xt30 and xt2 with a 35f1.4? Or just a x100f or x100t?
For street photography now and may be film making in future...?
Some of us have faces worth hiding. I have the X-T2 over the X-Pro2 because I’m ugly AND poor.
Joking aside, I like the in-camera tone curves in jpeg with the X-Pro1. It’s a big selling point to me. 16mp is my optimum sensor size for aps-c. I like small files that don’t need editing.
Yup, its all just personal preference :)
I was able to get the diopter I needed at CameraQuest. It's listed for the Voigtlander Bessa, but it got me back into action with the X-Pro1 after cataract surgery.
Good tip.
I love it.

Just like Fujifilm XM-1, it's old but still has a magic in it. No viewfinder no worries.
Bought one (again...I already had two) last week, when I've heard Viltrox was about to release 23mm, 33mm and 56mm lenses all at f1.4. Hoping those will be as good as their 85mm.
I was waiting for this review, as i am just wondering if i should get an X-Pro 1 or X-T1, given that i have the original X100 now :)
Still havent seen it, the notification just popped up, but i am writing this comment just to say how thankful i am that you are doing this!
And as always, loving all your videos! Keep up the Great work!
Thanks, I hope you ended up enjoying it :)
@@gearreallydoesntmatter Oh yes i enjoyed it! And as every other review of yours, it makes me want the camera more! But i find it didnt help me choose :/
I know it's mostly up to personal preferences, but i am struggling to decide between the x-pro 1 and x-t1. The x-pro 1 is a little bit cheaper here, at 230gbp, and the x-t1 is 270. That is not a concern, as i will invest more in lenses :)
But the thing i can't decide on is, if i want the left side hybrid viewfinder of the x-pro1 more, or the wi-fi + tilting screen on the x-t1. Right now i am leaning more towards x-t 1 as i never had wi-fi on a camera before, and when i had a camera with tilting screen, i did use it most of the time. But the x-pro1 is so appealing, and i am used to the hybrid viewfinder from my x100, plus the x-pro 1 should have a better one :)
The other thing i am wondering about is, if i should trade in my x100 at the same time, so i can get one or two more lenses, or just keep it as it's a great walk-around camera :)
Wifi I could live without, never use it.@@DilianVelev
@@gearreallydoesntmatter I think that helped me a bit, especially as i find it quite handy to just transfer the photos to my phone via USB OTG+tiny card reader. And thats just if i have to use longer transport on the way back. Usually everything ends up on the computer, and not the phone :)
I bet i will be happy with whatever i choose, and when i decide on one, i will always wonder what would it be with the other one :D
Thanks for the answer though, at least it made me think about the "feature" i don't actually need :)
It's coming with most brands. Higher resolution takes a toll on colors and DR.
Mattias Burling definitely
Whats the lens you have on? The one with the hood?
Loved my X-Pro 1. Even today I wish I'd kept it. Maybe in future the X-Pro 2 might pop in to my collection.
Olympus Pen F in 2019 next !
handel1111 agreed!
The poll voted it down again.. sorry. Another Fuji won. But there is an Olympus review coming..
The penf has my attention but will it be a bigger sensor
The pen f is a beauty, but way way over priced.
Jas Mann Leica is beautiful, 1000x way way overpriced than Pen F
Even now that I have the XT3, I still love the RF layout and colors of my EX2 and the Pro1 hardware would be awesome.
Still use my xe1. Sold the xpro1 to help fund the pro2.
The older xtrans sensor is amazing, and wish I still had the pro1.
I could not decide between this one and x-t1. Viewfinder on the side or the bright and beautiful EVF.
i am in the same boat... maybe at the end i will just take both :D
Great video :) Fuji is extremely tempting at the moment, I'm kinda over with Canon.
Will you do a film camera review anytime in the future?
Just picked one up yesterday 2nd hand cheap and paired it with a 7artisan 35mm f1.2. Plan to try some vintage stuff on it :)
I swear I love the 27mm but I just want it to have an aperture ring
I still have and use my xpro1 from 2013. Still going strong.
Lol. Yup I sure found me a bottom dweller Xpro1. Demo model in some UK camera store for $499. Received looking brand new. Having a blast with this camera. The rendering is sublime indeed.
>the buffer fills rather quickly
Yeah, but it seems to quickly become responsive again. That's pretty neat, especially compared to the Leica T. I didn't realize that Fuji was good about pushing updates to fix things like AF, nor did I realize the Pro had a OVF/EVF. Does using the OVF give it better standby battery life?
Not sure but I would imagine it would reduce the power consumption a little.
Talking about chinese lenses... I would love to watch a review of the Meike cine lenses (Veydra clones).
Thanks for one more video.
I really enjoy it!
I've found one of these dirt cheap used and wondering whether to buy it. I'm so impressed with my XT3 that I kinda want a fuji on me all the time
The X-E2 is a nice little alternative for the right price.
So true, just bought a new one on eBay for £200. Such a little beauty!
Pretty new subscriber and follower on IG. Your channel has become one of my favorites.
Cool :)
Great review if you have to choose xpro1 or xe2 with their own pros and cons. Which one you would choose?same range price now second and bo
X-Pro1 or save up for a XE3.
I've been wanting one of these! Great video, per usual.
The 18mm is one of those unsung fuji lenses with a cult following. One of these days you're going to get your hands on the xf60mm and never take it off your camera.
I will have to try it then :)
Mattias Burling do ittttttt
1st: It's awesome to see you review this camera. I had always wanted it but never ended up owning it. A friend of mine has one, though, and loves it.
2nd: Are you ever going to do a review for the Fujifilm X-H1? I just searched your channel for your X-H1 review and realized that, though it made guest appearances in several videos, you never actually did a review of it.
I ended up selling it rather quickly so unfortunately there won't be a review of it.
I have a xPro1 and a xt3 and still use and love xpro-1 as the best for joy of use
If you already have the xpro2 the xe1 makes more sense imo since you then have a small alternative.
Still love my Xpro1 even I use the Xpro2 as my main body.
The only thing that is missing is the classic chrome profile which I use all time for color with Xpro2.
The new Xpro3 seems to have a much better viewfinder and better build quality, so quite interesting.
For me the tilt screen is the main selling point. Thats the only thing I miss on the X-Pro1/2.
I'm a simple man, I see a Mattias Burling video, I watch it and click like
