I loved how Sam still tried to de-escalate things with Walker. When they found him, Sam could've called him out and say he's a murderer. Instead, he told Walker to explain his situation to the government and he made a mistake. Sam has a heart of gold which is why I wanted him to have the shield in the first place. Props to everyone, especially Wyatt Russell's performance.

When Walker was telling the group that they made him and trained him it made me think if all the young men and women who go to war and come back as broken people after seeing the things they see. Mental health for vets is awful and the government does no favors in helping them. He was a broken man who was handed power and broken people brake people, sometimes literally.

The saddest of it all is seeing army vets living on the street after serving. Like, they get praised for their work abroad, but as soon as they retire, it's like they never existed. It makes me both angry, sad and irritated. And what makes it worst is how people in social media still have the nerve to defend the army's actions. This is why PTSD is such a serious issue with everything going on around these men and women in and after the army.

    • @unitedstatesofamerica9948

That's a fact. Civilians create everything that makes warfighters what they are, without understanding what it does to them and it makes them into - for better and worse. He had baggage probably from his Army combat operations and now no one is going to give a fuck about that now. Thrown under the bus. Many of the people who put charges against him probably didn't hold total fault against him but had to after it was seen public. That in itself is crossing the line and warfighters are expected to hold themselves to high standards, but the fact is that the less bad people or enemy, the BETTER, no matter how that is achieved. War crimes exist and prosecuting them must be upheld but there are times when all some rules do is hinder.

It was based on real events. The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiments, which resulted in over 300 people dying. Ethical Laws weren't written in stone yet, and racism had a clear influence. Those people were deemed disposable by the state and the scientists who ruined their lives, and it still manifests today with black populations being anti-vaxx.

@@drksideofthewal The stories in the classic X-Men comics are only metaphorical in relation to race and sexuality being alluded to by "mutations".
But the words, actions and consequences the mutants suffer through are miles beyond anything Disney ever had the guts to portray on screen, even in this episode.
I'm talking about ethnic cleansing here, for example. Even Logan, with all its violence, only alluded to it. While the comics showed it in all its sadness and brutality. IN THE 80's.

For me, a very subtle moment I appreciated was Bucky sleeping on the couch. Going off what was said in The Winter Soldier movie (bed feels as if you’re about to fall through or something to that analogy) and seen in earlier episodes, Bucky was still haunted by the memories and the battlefield. Obviously not a bed, but I think it’s a bit symbolic that he’s on his way back to recovery- sparing Zemo, opening up to a community and finally connecting with Sam. It’s steps like this that deserve credit, even IRL when someone you know is struggling in life and trying to get better.
Edit: also wanted to add, its some interesting parallels comparing Sam's tough love to Bucky's therapist's strict and blunt (from her military experience) advice, and Thor's mom's tough love advice. Putting that last one in there as her and Sam's advice were something that helped give Bucky/Thor a push in the right direction without being too harsh like Rocket or Bucky's therapist.

Tommy Lee Jones never thought he was worth anything. Once he proved he was, the Gov wanted more weapons, not Caps. When we look at Walker kinda the same deal, like Isiah said. Great White Hope. I just had an epiphany about Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson. Bare with me, i forget the doctors name but he wanted the super soldier serum to go to a good man, not a good soldier. That man was Steve Rodgers. I was one of the people who wondered about the reasoning of why Steve gave Sam the shield. Under the concept of "it takes one to know one", i believe i know the reason now. After his military service Sam became a counselor for other soldiers who was dealing with trauma and PTSD. He didnt just go "i did my service im done bye yall" he decided to help people who served but may have dealt with trauma during their military service. In addition to that in the winter soldier even Steve asked Sam "Are you sure you want to get back in" to which Dam replied. "Cap needs my help thats more than enough reason to get back in the game." I think Steve knew that Sam was willing to put his own peace and comfort aside and prioritize helping others. If anyone would know who gets the shield it would be Steve. Sam didnt see that at first but i think hes getting it now.

Everything you say is true, but here the thing. When Walker had his soliloquy of rage, and said "You built me," I think that went over a lot of people's heads. He was an Army Ranger, a Special Ops. Having been in the Spec Ops community myself (11th Psyop Battalion), we knew the Rangers to be the Kick In The Door type of unit. TAnd you heard him and Lemar talk about all the black and grey ops they did, all the lives they took on covert ops. Basically, what Walker did to that guy, he's done before in the Army...only difference is, the government has been able to cover up and disavow all those past deeds. Here, it was VERY public, they couldn't deny anything. So they cut their losses, put it all on him.
It' no excuse for what he did, but this didn't start with him. They put the shield in the wrong guy's hands and asked him to be something other than what he was trained to be.

Sam's new suit will not be shown in a simple scene, we will probably see him when he comes to the action in some great hero entrance. And I bet this suit has the colors of Captain America.

It does, the suit is a lot more white than Steve's version but it still looks great.

I loved me some Lamar. I was sad to see him go, he was a good character. The part with his parents and John was heartbreaking. My favorite part of the episode was Sam coming to the realization that he needs to be CAP and the awe-inspired looks on his nephew's faces. Inspiring young men for the good.

Things I noticed in this episode.
    1) The actor playing Isaiah Bradley is the voice of Martian Manhunter, Carl Lumbly.
    2) Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character is a former lover of Wolverine. So there’s two Wolverine references in this show(the first being the quick shot of The Princess Bar in Madripoor, which was co-owned by Logan at one point).

Steve was in a situation where he saw Bucky murdered in Captain America: The First Avenger. Steve did not snap. He did not rage kill. He finished the mission and brought Zola in alive.
    Just wanted to clarify

M-Dogg, you’re right, in fact that is the reason why I enjoy your videos, you and Soldier lay your opinion down in a way that is easy to relate to, and understand. And yes, in a situation where my best friend gets killed in front of me, could I keep from sending one of the people, who caused my friend to die, screaming into the next world?...probably, no, definitely not, and it would haunt me for the rest of my life. So, I would like to thank you two gentlemen for pointing out, the whole “He ain’t my Capt.” thing, because I said the same thing.

The actor playing John Walker is Kurt Russell's son- so badass runs in the family.
It's amazing that an episode with 90% talk over action can be so engrossing. Every conversation was so damn real- particularly John meeting with Lamar's family. The hurt there was so raw. Directing and acting are stellar on this entire series.

Wyatt Russell and Carl Lumbly are so flipping talented. Lumbly scenes are so heartbreaking. He’s so subtly powerful. Russell’s whole scene w the senator was crushing. Having family and friends in the military, it hit me hard when they took away his rank and benefits. Especially after all he’d sacrificed for the country. And his delivery of “you built me”. MCU does an amazing job of making sympathetic villains. 🥺🥺🥺🥺

Can we talk about how much of a boss Carl Lumbly is for his portrayal of Isaiah Bradley?
