I actually feel kinda bad for John Walker. Everything he said in the court room was true. He joined the army. They trained him to kill, to fight and to survive. He did what they ordered him to do. Than they gave him the shield and told him to be captain America when there was no realistic way he could ever live up to Steve Rogers
I'm not a military person, but there is a term called the fog of war where there is confusion and soldiers can lose perspective on the battlefield. Walker killing nico in cold blood probably happens quite often in the fog of war. Really the gov't should have assessed his mental state instead of giving him the near impossible task of taking up the legacy of captain america. And instead of stripping him of his benefits, he should have gone to therapy like bucky was made to do.
John Walker is an amazing symbol of the bad parts of american foreign policy, white privilege, and veterans' issues.
In proper Marvel fashion, you hate him, but he still has sympathetic qualities. Great writing!

I loved how Sam still tried to de-escalate things with Walker. When they found him, Sam could've called him out and say he's a murderer. Instead, he told Walker to explain his situation to the government and he made a mistake. Sam has a heart of gold which is why I wanted him to have the shield in the first place. Props to everyone, especially Wyatt Russell's performance.

it's crazy bc sam was holding those vet meetings back in the winter soldier that's how him and cap met. He's the perfect person to talk to. If anybody can understand and attempt to talk someone down it's him.
I think it was really sweet that Bucky asked the Wakandans to make Sam a new suit/wings or whatever it is. And we know that means its made of vibranium and/or has high tech stuff that will help protect him. Goes to show he cares more then he lets on, and felt bad about things that had happened between them. And helping with the boat etc, he cares. At the end he can't even deny it.
I just looove the fact that Sam got his suit from Wakanda, he got the ancestors with him, yes!
The duality of Sam and Bucky fighting Walker, takes me back to civil war when Steve and Bucky fought Tony.
Isaiah did the same thing steve did rescuing his brothers but with a totally different result..smh sad

Kevin Fiege has been setting up diversity in the MCU for years, he even fought a war over it with his old boss back in the day and won. The MCU was a VERY different place, when Kevin Fiege wasn't in charge. I read an article where Malcom Spellman, the shows writer, set out to turn Anthony Mackie into the next Black Panther. Not in terms of replacing Chadwick Boseman, but he talked about how his son was mourning the loss of Chad (like most of us), and that his primary goal was not to replace the man (which is impossible, gladly Marvel knows this), but the character. It was far from his only goal, but he wanted to make Sam Wilson the hero his son and other people would be proud of, on the right terms. The man has written an incredibly entertaining show, very potent, and the actors have killed.
They turned Valentina's hair purple because we know damn well that they're saving the white streak for Rogue LOL

I've just decided that Henry Jackman is a master composer. Three minutes and three seconds into this episode may be the most beautiful, yet haunting and heart-rending version of the Civil War theme. Music is a character in and of itself.
Those weren't a new set of wings, in the end the deep breath indicates it's a possible vibranium Cap suit.
It could be both considering sam still had his wings when he became captain america in the comics.

Sam and broke that ARM to get Steve's legacy back! I like that Sam let Joaquin keep the wings a nod to him being the next Falcon! This episode really showed how Sam and Bucky's relationship has gown together. I like that Sam bonded with the shield in the end and then he stared down at his nephew, what a historical moment. Things are about to get ignorant tho because Karli isn't done and John isn't either with him making fake captain america shield.
Sam is low-key one of the best fighters in the MCU. He's taking on super soldiers and all types of folks and handling his own! If he DID use the serum, he'd be almost unstoppable.
The Contessa is old school SHIELD from the 1960s Nick Fury comic. In the comics she was Nick Fury’s ride or die chick
I thought it was weird that they decided to use her in that role when Valerie Cooper is John Walker's political ally in the comics and a better suited character to use in that role.

Notice in this episode Bucky holds the gun on Zemo with his human right hand and did not kill him while in episode 1 he held the gun and shot Yuri's son with his metal left hand. Bucky's human side is winning the battle over his winter soldier side.

I think Sam got a superhero suit from the Wakandans, made with the same material as T'Challa's. The wings were great but I think Sam telling Joaquin to keep them is him leaving that part of his life behind and moving forward in the next stage of his superhero life. Plus, a suit like T'Challa's would be more useful, IMO, since it can absorb the energy from anything attacking him.

I was hollerin and cheering at the beginning, I cried, I was hopeful, (I am not hating Bucky flirting with Sarah), and I cried again when Sam was helping Bucky and he was saying he didn’t think he had anything left but Sam’s family was so welcoming. He was just so happy to be helping and be accepted and treated as normal. I can’t wait for Real Talk!!

I had the same thought about the shield. How did Marvel make me misty eyed for a piece of metal.
Same! Sam looked as though he wanted to cry while wiping the blood off. The shield meant more than weapon for both him and Bucky and to see it stained is just disgusting.

Thanks for the commentary. I noticed the crisco in the refrigerator door and immediately thought, "product placement." The stunt double during the training scene was obvious. I think it was the legs and height that made it noticeable. And oh yes, the phone dialogue was authentic. Certain people, I have to introduce myself by whom I am related to (Essie's daughter, Mr. Charlie's granddaughter, etc. - your family name goes further than you). The reason it’s easier for you to fall in love with these marvel characters that you don’t know is because you don’t have any history with them or baggage or expectations it’s easier for you to accept them. But since you call yourself a DC fan you have history and expectations with certain characters and if those are not met it makes you dislike them

It was so upsetting to hear Isaiah’s story and how the govt officials talked about rounding people up like cattle. You can see why the Flag Smashers are fighting bc the world actually sounded better after the snap. Everyone getting along, United, “one world, one people” and not treating others like they don’t belong. Then billions come back and want it all the way it was, bc they didn’t see those 5 years and how it was. I love how this series has explored all these issues. ❤️
