My early Runescape days are some of my fondest memories. Something about how hardcore the game was made it really stick with you in a positive way after all those years.
@7:55 this fact of moving items in your inventory made me think about how until this day I still reclick on whatever I'm doing after re-arranging my inventory even though this no longer interrupts things anymore.

It was painful alright, but if you got a unique item, you knew it was worth something unlike today. Using sextant in wildy and doing puzzles without help was truly an experience 🌝

12:00 there was a bug where you could interact with objects in the castlewars area since it was copy/pasted into the game, typically the stairs. If you spammed report abuse you could get into the team base, click the portal out (which was still functional good job Jagex) and exit the copters area with a castlewars hood/cape. By memory it kept the copter animation going on your account but without the actual copter under your character. It was a really low-tier bug but it let you get members items on a free to play account.
Thats interesting I don't remember that at all. Either that i blanked that out. I got to many hrs in rs like the rest you that played like everyday if not almost everyday snd all day as well. And night sometimes when my parents allowed me too stay up pass my bed time.
Random fact: When dark bow was released the attack speed was slow enough where another player could steal the monster your were currently in combat with between hits. It was hot fixed quickly after it became known.
I remember you could do that shit with some other weapons as well if memory recalls right was 2h and one of the other bows like maple or magic bow. Got my goblin stolen from me like a mother fucker was irritating like a mother fucker. I also remember hearing bout the dark bow the most the though. Dont think to many many players tried it other weapons if memory recalls right.
7:58 I have a habit of re-clicking monsters and objects after i've moved an item in my inventory, i noticed a few days ago that i didn't need to re-click after moving an item since my action continued regardless and wondered where i got that from. Makes sense now
The crystal bow degrades every 100 shots or so losing a % of its power each time. However, if you had two crystal bows - if you kept a rough estimate of how many shots you had made - you could switch to the second bow when you got close to the degradation point and then switch back to the main bow when the first bow degrades a stage. Thereby keeping your main use cbow at full power for the duration of usage. Basically the degrading was locked to your character not the bow itself so this trick worked. No idea if or when this mechanic was removed.
Dude that item rearranging thing from March 2007 really hit me, I learned to play about 4 months earlier in 2006 and always knew if I moved items around it would cancel stuff, so I adapted my play style to it. Still catch myself doing that now even though it's been changed for decades.
Yup same i also added few other things as well for how i play. Hey if you still play im been looking for people to play with and i dont think any of my real life friends wanna play this game or play it again. I been on and off playing. I deleted my last account. Started over just recently. Just been going through life and hardships at the moment more then i have ever in my life. I would have multiple accounts but im good on trying to do that much work. Rather focus on one account for now. In all my years ive played runescape i never got a skill maxed and i wanna do that. I came closed to getting it but then ended up saying fuck it at certain point
If you logged into a world and stayed still for 15 min ( you could chat and emote, just not move from your square).. and then buried bones at the 15 min mark, it would trigger a random event 100% of the time.
On the topic of Splitbark; the Splitbark Top was really popular for pking for the same (alch valued-based) keep on death rule you discussed in this video, a Mystic top used to protect on death over a whip/fury so higher risk pkers of that era opted to use SB instead. I have fond memories of pking with SB top, Mystic bottoms, Farseer helm and a mage shortbow->whip combo, the stats were terrible but it was enough to strike fear into my green dragon killing victims :P
Another fun fact was that in the south-east part of Varrock there was a smith that would, for free, change plate legs into plate skirts or vice-versa for you. I don't recall if that was in classic or early RS2 but I do recall making a bit of money buying skirts, switching them to legs, and selling them at a profit. Last I recall, the anvil still remains in that building down there although I haven't played in numerous years at this point.
Not necessarily a correction but additional related info here. RSC was made to be members only in August 2005 to combat the botting problem. This is what forced me to finally switch to RS2 as a F2P kid and inspired me to get membership so I could play RSC again. Ended up sticking with RS2 after getting a small taste of it.
PS I still don't move items in my inventory because of cancelling animations. I didn't even know they didn't cancel animations anymore so thanks for the heads up lol. PPS I fell for that dragon battleaxe lure and lost my first whip that way :*(
they changed the look of the platebodies because you never used to be able to equip gloves and a plate at the same time, you needed to wear chainmail to wear gloves. They changed this so you'd be able to wear gloves with the plates, so they updated the graphic of it with removed hands
26:09 I got excited when Splitbark came up because I thought you were going to mention that the current model is different from how it looked when it was released. I haven't been able to find any screen caps of the original model, nor do I ever hear anyone mention it during these trivia videos, but Splitbark was changed like a week after release to its current model due to complaints. I can't recall how the original looked exactly, but I know the helmet was round rather than the current pointed hat, and there was green trim colored like the fine cloth used to craft the armor.
There's a news article in the official RS archives confirming it was changed on Oct 26th, 2004, but I haven't been able to find a screenshot of the original version for the life of me. Tried all the old fansites via the wayback machine but that's turned up nothing.
I remember hunting revenants in f2p for fun, and nothing more. To this day, I have a friend added in-game who would bless my gravestone when I died. Those were the days when kids would just do stuff for fun, not for the grind. I remember gathering a team at clan wars which was a safe-area in the wilderness at the time and auto-typing "Last of the hunts!". We would sit at the chaos altar and wait for revs to roam by, and then go to bandit camp to make pizzas or the lobster/swordfish spots in the eastern wilderness. The original group ironman :D
*27:20** The Old Nite statue was actually confirmed that it had nothing to do with him and was a coincidence. however theres now a pub in Ferox Enclave called the Old Nite*
Brings back old memories when I played in 01. One thing you missed was a mithril long sword use to be the best weapon with adam full helm mithril plate and adam legs If i remember correctly. Wilderness was started due to a new form of Pking started by a clan I help started called The Messiahs. We all had "Messiah" and a # after. We would level Range and use it to kill people who were fighting. Whether by people we were targeting or other people and we would join in and 3rd party it. Another fun fact was the war between Outlanders and The Black Knights. Probably two of the biggest clans during the early era of Runescape. We also use to have NO idea what Prayer did. We would bury bones and it would go up but there was nothing you could do to use it. Another fun fact I think you missed was you use to have no idea how much XP you needed to level up. There was no way of knowing. We use to speculate that hitting alot of zero's meant you were about to level up.
First d med received in the game was by a character named Valmont. Not sure who he sold it to but I know it was one of the well known players at the time. He sold it for almost 99m coins. In rsc this was unheard of. I spent the day sick and I was Valmont cannon fodder. I would stand next to the kbd and let him run past me as he was about to die. The kbd couldn't run through players so you could engage combat, run past your friend and mage it down. It had massive mage def at the time so took forever.
My idea about why the platebodies used to look like that in the inventory is that it was designed with gauntlets included (like it worked in RSC), but then of course that never applied to RS2, so eventually they got around to removing them from the icon.
Some more RSC facts from around 2002. Before members there were only 4 worlds who had max players at 1200 if I remember correctly. Varrock castle on world 1 was the go to place to trade before world 2 falador for members started up. All rocks were grey and you had to mine or prospect them (or have someone tell you) what rock has what in it. It wouldnt stop you from trying to mine these non descript grey rocks if I remember correctly even if you didnt have the level to mine it, and would give you the usual fail. You also had to click on the pickaxe (only one kind at that time) and then click the rock to attempt to mine every single time and you failed a lot. You could use something like runite ore on a furnace to look like you are smelting ore with the chat bubble, and people would do this even without the levels required for smelting runite just so people would see them doing it and give them attention. This one was a bit of a rumor but before members, for a while rune 2 handers were the best weapon in the game. The market was cornered by one player due to there being no source to buy or slay for them and the insane level at the time required to smith them. probably gone over but I missed it. Like pickaxes, there were not multiple variants to crossbows, bows, hatchets etc. It was just one item like knife is still today. The white and brown aprons used to be equipped in the cape (or amulet, I forget exactly) slots. This led to things like a group that called themselves the penguins where they wore all black armor, and had a white apron on instead of a cape. There was a female and male version of platebodies. Male characters could only wear male platebodies, but female characters could wear male platebodies or female platebodies. There was an armorer on the south side of varrock that could alter your platebody from male to female and viceversa. You can see the difference between the male version which is on most characters, but the female version had the belly button showing, and the sleeves missing but had gloves as well. You can see an example on the osrs wiki on the runescape classic page. A female character with a rune female platebody fighting a bearded man with a rune chain skirt and rune chainbody.
The reason the old platebody looked that way: In RSC the platebody you wore also covered your hands like gloves (at least visually). The long part on the platebody arm is the built-in glove. When RS2 came out that effect no longer happened. Made sense to change it.
27:15 that statue existed long before he died. The story was his clan dubbed it his statue and through word of mouth players said Jagex put it there. However, there is now something commemorating him at ferix enclave because of the rumors.
4:30, they even have niche use in RS3! With the introduction of the EoF, you could use the specs of one weapon on a stronger weapon, so d-claws in an EoF paired with a T-95 weapon can do some insane damage, especially in some circumstances like Telos, where in some phases you can have infinite adrenaline and spam the shit out of it for some crazy DPS.
Just so you know, back in classic the platemail took up the armour and glove slot for characters, but this was changed with RS2. Because you can wear gloves and platemail there is no need for the look to cover both sections
Lmfao right i would hate that shit. Have to do that random event back in the day and go to spawn back and they just sitting where you would spawn and straight up spawn kill you. Id be so pissed dude.
I think the old nite statue fact was debunked since it existed before his unfortunate death. However the pub in the Ferox Enclave in OSRS is directly named after him.
It’s crazy, back then, on my skillet, I remember d axe was sooo expensive, I think over 3m. Black cav was 1m+ and the white/black elegant was 1m+ . Now dirt cheap. It was pure fashion scape on my skiller. Can’t forget the white or black flowers too
LOL the ads on the part to refresh the world list took me back.. remember the ads that would lag your computer so you would have to zoom in to fix it. or stop the ad.
I had a pink phat when rs2 debuted. I remember being quite dismayed that it changed to purple and always wanted an explanation for why they felt the need to do this.
22:00 yep that’s right. I remember full guthan being 9M ish. Also losing my full guthan at dks :p. But also had a day at barrows where I got 2 guthan spears in 1 day. Spear was like 6m back then.
Bro, great vid!!! Jagex should totally put an avatar of you in Varrock Museum like WoW did with Red Shirt Guy! Just show up to a convention and blow their minds haha!
i remember picking up my scythe back in the day and around the same time reading that jagex was working on a carpentry skill and almost finished and would keep pretending it was a month away for like 2 years straight.
Back in the day I would frequent the Falador Party Room and I got lucky on 2 occasions. One I got D Claws and the other I snagged a green H’ween when they sold for 20m (blue was 30m red was 40m) and as a kid at the time I jumped off the chair with excitement. The excitement I felt will never be topped. Memories I wish I could go back and re live.
I remember the gnome copter event way back when too, where you would jump on the gnome copter and it would take you to the P2P areas like Castle Wars. It was the coolest thing ever. Once they released the membership cards at like 7-11 for the first time heading to Castle Wars was the first thing I did
35:00 - RSC prayer had exactly the same contribution to combat as it always has (0.125 per level). RSC magic also provided 0.125 combat levels per at all times too, as you could do magic during combat. However, Attack/Def/Str/Hp were only 0.25 levels each, whereas in later versions Attack and Strength have a much higher weighting towards combat (0.325 from rs2 onward iirc, and no magic contribution unless it was the dominant stat).
The Falador Party Room used to be where the courthouse is in Seers Village. I don’t think the bankers announced that a party was going on too which was nice for hosting private drop parties. Not sure if that one was mentioned but remembering shit like this when no one discusses it makes me want to confirm others remember it that way too lol.
For context on claws. This was at a time when standard pking was "he can 1 tick he's really good" people would flat out panic when they were specd by these most unable to even get prayer up and eat before the second spec finished
I'm pretty sure the only reason they changed Unids to Grimy herbs was because it was possible to get unidified toadflax from the prison pete random, whereas the only way to obtain the item that corresponded to their identified version item ID was to gather it from the Brimhaven agility arena or to grow them from farming, which technically the herbs were pre-identified since you knew what the seeds were. Jagex just made it sound like being able to clean the herbs from farming sounded like a bonus, even though you only got like 6 xp. all herbs that were dropped from Monsters were obtained in an unidentified state. however, Toadflax and Snapdragon were never obtainable in that state until Farming was released. however it wasn't possible to obtain unidentified Toadflax/Snapdragon until Prison Pete was released alongside the Hand in the Sand quest 6 months (January 2026) after Farming's release, so the devs probably didn't account for that. Jagex didn't create Grimy herbs until September 10 2007, i think that same update also added the herbalist in Nardah the ability to mass identify herbs for GP.
I started in 07isb, I don't remember the original unids but I do remember them in OSRS. When I would go to sell them the people who would be like "just put one stack up at a time" used to piss me off. I knew how they worked and knew they were only trying to get the expensive ones for cheap off me by only have the expensive ones in their inventory
I didn't start playing til 2008 at 9 years old as a f2p so I was completely unaware of most of what was in the game. I'm still learning about stuff now that's been in the game since classic.
I always remember the pronunciation of Neitiznot and Jatizso because mod Ash(iirc) said "Nay, tis not. Ya, tis so" and I go back and forth like a debate in my mind
I had always assumed old plate bodies had gloves at the end of the arms, not long arms. And when they had the idea of RfD and plate gloves they removed the gloves from platebody.
I started back in 2002, the best years were 2002-2006 Cavaliers were such an easy item to merch, I'd have about 20 tans, 10 darks, and 3-5 black cavaliers, made a forum thread where I sold them for 25k, 50k, or 150k, more than I bought them for. (colour dependant.) I'd be out grinding and wait for the PM's then just quickly tele to their location. I miss those days so much, the way to escape real life that I oh so needed.
there was a bug i remember, back when rune battle axes first started being made. You could stack knives in your slots to make you hit massive amounts. I remember paying 1 million and using the hack to only lose in a close fight ...it hurt my pride
30:40 There is currently a player that has made it his life's goal to grief Castle Wars games and he's been doing it since the middle of RS2, if not earlier. He does this for 12+ hours a day and has been doing this non stop for the last 10 years. He owns a clan that helps him grief games around the clock, and he also did this for Soul Wars when that came out as well. They are so dedicated that they will purposely target certain competitive Castle Wars players and have someone keep tabs on them so they can grief their games whenever they are online. RS trolls are a different breed, so the fact that people were willing to bug out this chest after every server reset on RSC doesn't sound too unreasonable at all. This game attracts some of the most degenerate people for some reason.
Awesome video! I've binged so much OSRS history/documentary type videos so there's honestly little I don't know at this point, but I did learn a few new things from your video which was a pleasant surprise! Really solid work bro, can feel you really put effort into this! Thanks for the great content! :)
Slayer dart is not weak, it's very cost effective for mid level mage and especially with the slayer staff upgrade. It is, in fact, one of the strongest spells for mid levels.
its really good for ironmen before trident as well. ibans is usually better early on but as mage levels climb it can hit seriously hard for some tasks, at 75 magic the dart hits 25 with enchanted staff. plus it uses up those useless mind runes that barrows spits out
I remember camping black dragons in taverly dungeon with a rune halberd for that visage, competition was insane and back then you could never left click attack the dragon, so you had to right click him before he died, wait for the respawn and then click attack right as he spawned, then you could grab your loot from the last kill without someone stealing your dragon. I never got that visage.... lol
the trick was to click wind strike, then as the dragon spawned you could left click wind strike on the dragon immediately to snipe it, i remember i camped there for ages xd
The armour update making the arms shorter was because gloves. The old platebody sprites show gloves on the actual platebody. I guess back then there were basically only leather/coloured gloves, but then with RFD and stuff gloves became a way bigger deal, so it made sense to not have platebody sprites show gloves when in fact, there aren't any. Like, imagine wearing a rune platebody which shows rune gloves on the ends of the arms, but actually you're wielding dragon gloves which are red, doesn't make sense. So yeah that's almost definitely the reason for that choice.
29:43 i think people traded here because draynor was the only place where you could turn your ores, fish, etc. into certificates, which were essentially bank notes, before those existed, so you could trade goods in bulk
I used halberds in OSRS to safespot dragons as a noob in like 2018. Took me a while until I realized that ranged is faster and dragon bones easily cover for the ammunition cost.
I'm pretty sure I remember when Castle Wars was new that people could take their own team's flag if a player from the other team took it off the stand first and died somewhere with it so the high level players would grab it and tank.

That 25k/75k wilderness trick really threw me for an unexpected trip down memory lane. That was a weird time hahah. Love it.
Vinylgoth is my name on old school its all i play tried rs3 when it first launched or at least beta before it became public and just nope im good.
I'll join you if your still around.
The plate body having hands was because it kept you from wearing gloves in classic.
Even I learned something at 7:25, last I played castle wars the meta was to grab your own flag and barricade next to the last stairs up
Holyshit the nostalgia this video brought back for me... as someone who started playing in late 04' - early 05', great video!
Now rs2 has just as much bots
Such a throwback vid. The unids and magic/willow log scams were so prevalent back in the day.
I love these types of videos. Been playing this game for over 18 years now. So many memories
;)
slayer dart was actually good in osrs for a time, before they buffed iban's staff
Thank you for including 25 bh. He's a osrs gem for sure.
Damn. This vid really made me feel old. A lot of these I remember like it happened yesterday, only to realize it's been 15-20 years 👴
PS I still don't move items in my inventory because of cancelling animations.
Not true, the statue actually used to mention the Old Nite's name. It was changed back to "someone important is honored here" or whatever it says.
Good catch! That makes sense
I remember that old world hopping sheesh, and gnome choppers
The reason the old platebody looked that way: In RSC the platebody you wore also covered your hands like gloves (at least visually). The long part on the platebody arm is the built-in glove. When RS2 came out that effect no longer happened. Made sense to change it.
8:54 Time capsule back to 2005. The Fart Button... I had forgotten how big that thing was, I just got whiplash and nostalgia at the same time. Damn
i loved the halberd training method! it was fun back in the day. I remember when the d halberd came out i got one and everyone was stoked about it lol
Because you can wear gloves and platemail there is no need for the look to cover both sections
omg seeing Fally park filled with sellers and buyers brought me waaaaay back!
Underground Pass in RSC was brutal. I still remember doing it one weekend late at night, good times.
Nothing like a good random event while being chased by a clan in the wild.
Can’t forget the white or black flowers too
i usually don't like webcams but the runescape 4 poster was hilarious so worth it
LOL the ads on the part to refresh the world list took me back.. remember the ads that would lag your computer so you would have to zoom in to fix it. or stop the ad.
Getting just a nostalgia blast, I forgot a lot of these things since I first started in 2007.
Runescape one of those games you saw your cousin play but couldn’t play it yourself. Wish I was there!
Not sure if that one was mentioned but remembering shit like this when no one discusses it makes me want to confirm others remember it that way too lol.
great video! i watched the whole thing. really entertaining and i didnt know almost all of these, well done
I love how there was a whole quest explaining how Neitiznot and Jahtizo got their names and people still forget it’s “Nay ‘tis not.” 😂
I started in 07isb, I don't remember the original unids but I do remember them in OSRS.
I'm still learning about stuff now that's been in the game since classic.
great video, neat remembering obscure differences to todays game
I always remember the pronunciation of Neitiznot and Jatizso because mod Ash(iirc) said "Nay, tis not. Ya, tis so" and I go back and forth like a debate in my mind
8:03 i still have the reflex of just manually clicking again when reorganising
Great content man. I still thought your stuff dropped at your feet when you died! Got me close to a resub there haha
I had always assumed old plate bodies had gloves at the end of the arms, not long arms. And when they had the idea of RfD and plate gloves they removed the gloves from platebody.
They are very clearly meant to be gauntlets. Long arms makes no sense whatsoever.
I started back in 2002, the best years were 2002-2006
Cavaliers were such an easy item to merch, I'd have about 20 tans, 10 darks, and 3-5 black cavaliers, made a forum thread where I sold them for 25k, 50k, or 150k, more than I bought them for. (colour dependant.)
I'd be out grinding and wait for the PM's then just quickly tele to their location.
I miss those days so much, the way to escape real life that I oh so needed.
It’s scary how I can remember literally scoffing at the dragon claws on release. I was like “…damn claws suck.”
I actually miss when the reva ventured around. Made the wildy scary af haha
there was a bug i remember, back when rune battle axes first started being made. You could stack knives in your slots to make you hit massive amounts. I remember paying 1 million and using the hack to only lose in a close fight ...it hurt my pride
36:53 That earning potential thing got me a Corrupted Dragon…something. Chainbody maybe? I was such a happy noob.
Wow, I had completely forgotten about the gnomecopters!
This game attracts some of the most degenerate people for some reason.
people like this need to be on a watch list lmao
who iz it
Good to see you're still here dude! Was worried not seeing anything from your other channel or this one.
I LOVE this kind of stuff, I learned so much about a game I thought I knew everything about
Awesome video! I've binged so much OSRS history/documentary type videos so there's honestly little I don't know at this point, but I did learn a few new things from your video which was a pleasant surprise! Really solid work bro, can feel you really put effort into this! Thanks for the great content! :)
the shaking at 16:30 is giving mad anxiety lol
Slayer dart is not weak, it's very cost effective for mid level mage and especially with the slayer staff upgrade. It is, in fact, one of the strongest spells for mid levels.
its really good for ironmen before trident as well. ibans is usually better early on but as mage levels climb it can hit seriously hard for some tasks, at 75 magic the dart hits 25 with enchanted staff. plus it uses up those useless mind runes that barrows spits out
You're Goated for the slideshow edit. You could have 1 upped it with the unregistered hypercam 2
I’m glad I found your channel. Humble and chill dude.
Clicked for the TAMU hat. Ty for the vid sir 🙏🏼
Saw the A&M hat and had to watch. Fightin' Texas Aggie '22. Gig 'em!
I like this and I know this is gonna sound like through the snow stuff but.... no one understands the real rsc struggle. Thanks for the info.
man i remember having to use dial up internet at my nans house back in 2005 just to get the internet running to play rs...
ahh the good old days
Haven't even started the video but just commenting glad to see you uploading again.
29:43 i think people traded here because draynor was the only place where you could turn your ores, fish, etc. into certificates, which were essentially bank notes, before those existed, so you could trade goods in bulk
So many memories brought back from this video, thank you for this :D
I used halberds in OSRS to safespot dragons as a noob in like 2018. Took me a while until I realized that ranged is faster and dragon bones easily cover for the ammunition cost.
Just found this channel, love it! Is part 2 gonna happen?
I've been subscribed, since your rsc series! Nice facts
I LOVED THE 76k TRICK. I remember my friend and I making a video hahah. Great times..
I miss the trading worlds back in the day. the seemingly unintentional organization of what is sold where was so beautiful.
I'm pretty sure I remember when Castle Wars was new that people could take their own team's flag if a player from the other team took it off the stand first and died somewhere with it so the high level players would grab it and tank.
