To see a guitar God watch Shawn Lane his uncut cover of Jimi Hendrix "Purple Haze" is out of this world. No insult to Slash or any of the other guitarist Shawn has a much smaller audience and is relatively unknown to the masses but he is phenomenal and unfortunately he passed away far to early in life RIP Shawn.

    Lyrics:.🤗🤗
When I look into your eyes
    I can see a love-restrained
But darling when I hold you
Don't you know I feel the same, yeah
    Nothing lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it's hard to hold a candle
    In the cold November rain
We've been through this such a long long time
Just trying to kill the pain, Ooh yeah
But lovers always come and lovers always go
And no one's really sure who's letting go today
    Walking away
If we could take the time to lay it on the line
    I could rest my head
Just knowing that you were mine
    All mine
So if you want to love me
    then darling don't refrain
Or I'll just end up walking
    In the cold November rain
Do you need some time...on your own
Do you need some time...all alone
Ooh, Everybody needs some time...on their own
Ooh, Don't you know you need some time...all alone
I know it's hard to keep an open heart
When even friends seem out to harm you
But if you could heal a broken heart
Wouldn't time be out to charm you
Sometimes I need some time...on my own
Sometimes I need some time...all alone
Ooh, Everybody needs some time...on their own
Ooh, Don't you know you need some time...all alone
    And when your fears subside
And shadows still remain, Oh yeah
I know that you can love me
When there's no one left to blame
    So never mind the darkness
We still can find a way
    Nothing lasts forever
    Even cold November rain
    You're not the only one
    You're not the only one
Don't ya think that you need somebody
Don't ya think that you need someone
    Everybody needs somebody
    You're not the only one
    You're not the only one

'Appetite for Destruction' is one of the all-time best selling albums because it hit hard at a time when the Glam Rock was fading and Grunge was setting in. Techno fizzled, Metal was still niche, and Huey Lewis was doing whatever Huey Lewis does in his spare time. GNR really kept Rock alive in that transition period and it was a rare day when MTV didn't play one of their vids. Def Leppard held on as well and is worth a listen. Both the Pyromania and Hysteria albums were fantastic, with the latter being probably their best in terms of style and sound. Very well designed and a great one to play in the background for a lot of things.

A couple things about the song/video I find intriguing. The first part of the song talks about the need to be alone and after the drop into the second part it's about needing someone and not being alone. The video part with the church is cool, exterior shots show it to he tiny but once inside its gigantic. Slash walks out to do his lead and it's small again.

@@DianeJennings I would like to add that James Taylor wrote Fire and Rain. while in an institution. He was a heroin addict. It is about that but also before he went into the institution he had been overseas and nobody would tell for months of the death of his childhood friend by suicide. The opening lyrics --->
"Just yesterday mornin', they let me know you were gone
Suzanne, the plans they made put an end to you
I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song
I just can't remember who to send it to"

From the band that is in this clip, Nowadays Axl Rose is on vocals because he is the owner of the band, the guitarist returned to the band in 2016, the bassist returned in 2013 and the keyboardist never left the band

Glad to see you reacting to another classic, Diane. There were actually multiple versions of this video if memory serves me. I remember one where She caught him cheating on her and left him instead of the ending here where she died. Axl was actually involved with the daughter of one of the Everly Brothers (a brother's classic rock duo). I remember seeing her and him on an interview segment in their home on one of the gossip shows right before this song released. In the interview Axl actually mentioned that his real name was Bill Bailey Jr not William Bruce Rose Jr. I remember due to my late mom being a fan of the song "Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey" by either the Andrews Sisters or the MacGuire Sisters (I can't remember which at the moment). Wikipedia tends to get things wrong a lot unfortunately.

GNR performed in my city about 31 years ago, and when this piece of art started, a drizzle began to fall and the most epic part of this song was being sung... that is an indelible memory for those of us who were there that night of November 27th

Hi Diane! I don't listen to Guns & Roses much these days, because they really got played out in the late 80s/Early 90s. And their lead singer was a big Chad for a long time, but I think he's gotten better these days. Have a great weekend!

Las, this was the beginning of the end of GNR.
Appetite for DESTRUCTION was their debut, - hard, raw, uncensored, it was hard rock.
Next thing you know Axl went into psycho therapy and they went to crap, imho. The edge was gone, the anger was gone, and they went soft.
Axl was molested as a child - hence the anger, the raw, unapologetic, in your face, charisma, and when Slash agreed to play with Michael Jackson...?
It was too much for Axl and he told Slash so. Axl saw how far they had sold out to the dark side.
Nope. After Appetite all you had left was waterd down fans.

    Greetings Diane
Yes, that is Axel Rose. His style of voice can be called 'raspy'.
The 'Guy with the hat' is Saul Hudson, known as Slash. He is biracial, British and Black. Slash become synonymous with the Top Hat since stealing one before a show in 1985. He has been part of 8 bands, including G'nR.
This song can be referred to as a power ballad. The house where that wedding reception occurs is the SAME (famous) house (mansion) used in the "Godfather" films, if I am not mistaken. The cemetery where the 'bride' is buried is has also been used in several films and tv shows.
The video has a disconnect / inconsistency in that Slash - 'the guitar guy- exits the church /chapel and he is out in the middle of nowhere outside a small church and gets to do his amazing guitar solo. Axel and 'the bride' exit the same place and they find themselves in front of St. Bredan Catholic Church in Los Angeles with people and a car ready to take them away.
The "bride' is famous supermodel Stephanie Seymour. She was his then gf around 1992 when the video was shot.
The church in the guitar solo was specially build there for the video (somewhere in New Mexico; probably just outside of Taos, NM) because it was filmed around wintertime and there were no 'good looking fields" in California as it was first envisioned.
The stage where the band performs most of the song is the Orpheum Theater also in Los Angeles.
