    That is one unique crossing! Never thought I'd see rail signals used in place of regular red/green lights

      Yeah I wasn’t expecting to see that at all, also well surprised by how loud the alarms are, when we first saw it, I was like “OMG LOOK AT THAT” wonder how many more strange MWLS I’ll come across.

    • @samuelfellows6923
      @samuelfellows6923 Рік тому +1

      And the only one with outward facing sounders/alarms, put under the lights? All the other crossings have the alarms pointing into the crossing ~ mounted behind the wig-wags

    Wish in my state in USA had these cool crossings

  • @eswnl1

    In the old days, I think manual crossing gates used to open inwards so they blocked the railway. They also had a red “bullseye” stuck on the gate.

    • @JTCrossingsUK
      @JTCrossingsUK  5 місяців тому +2

      That’s for manual gated crossings that are guarded by a crossing keeper, not Userwork crossings for people to use. That’ll be far too dangerous.

      @@JTCrossingsUK 100%, in that scenario, if someone left the gates open they'd be ploughed out of the way by the next train

    Using train signals as MWLs, that is very bizarre and certainly something I never expected to see!

      Damn, but then wasn't this also the crossing where someone missed the MSLs and got hit, with an RAIB report [07/2016] about it? Presumably that's why they put them there, I guess?

    It's an interesting gate level crossing. 😀
    The sound of railroad crossings in England is similar to the sound of an ambulance in Japan😄.
    level crossings in Japan make a "pon♪pon♪" sound😄

      @@JTCrossingsUK Yeah, you can't call these MWLs either as they're far from miniature 😂

  • @darreng745
    @darreng745 9 місяців тому +6

    It is an occupational farm crossing or similar where you have to inform the signaller that you wish to use it and thus they can tell you if you have to wait or what is the time til the next train.That is why the request is to phone first and then the lights will trip to warn you of an approaching train as they will set them to green when you phone if access is possible

    • @pineappleroad
      @pineappleroad 8 місяців тому +1

      The red and green lights are automatic, and are not controlled by the signaller
      “Use telephone if crossing with large or slow, low or long vehicles, or with animals”
      Although it does seem like you have to phone when crossing with most types of vehicles, you don’t have to phone when driving across in a car, and you also don’t have to phone if crossing as a pedestrian, although I don’t think this crossing would get much pedestrian traffic

    It'd be great if all the gate crossings were electric like this. No risk of someone starting to cross without opening the other gate. Much faster to open and close. Don't to walk back across to close the other gate. No temptation to not bother closing as it's just a button. Much safer all round.
