Hey Dalton! Enjoyed the video, especially your attitude. Instead of laughing I would have been cursing a blue streak. I wanted to mention my plumber recommended a "residential water hammer tank, also known as a shock or surge tank" to help with pressure spikes from when valves are turned off and on. Just something you may want to ask your plumber about. Keep up the great work!
Hey Dalton, been there with these unpleasant surprises, but as you stated, great you are living there and found the leak promptly and also that you had a quick repair on hand. That PEX in your home is probably of the type and vintage that resulted in class action law suits over failures several years ago. I definitely would have your plumber replace all of these lines. While these hic-ups are quite aggravating, ones attitude toward resolving the problem either makes it tolerable or misery; you had the right approach.
I always say things happen for a reason, I think it's a good opportunity to see exactly what is under the house before actually getting all the renovation done and then having to tear it back up, this way you know it will be solid.
Luckily it broke in the crawlspace and not inside the house.😳 Also, I'm pretty impressed with your Cirque du Soleil level agility skills getting in and out of that crawlspace lol🤩 It's nice to see you laugh and smile since you're usually pretty serious in your videos😉
When we have to turn the water off for any reason, we open a faucet inside the house for a couple of reasons: 1) to let the air out of the line, and 2) to keep from having a huge amount of pressure all at once which will blow apart any sketchy joints. So, if the water department turned the water off and then back on there is a good chance that caused the joint to fail. Signed: Mrs. Grumpy Old Man P.S. That's a good friend crawling under the house in the mud, at night helping you.
You are so lucky that happened when it did! Great job on a quick repair. You did exactly what I would have done by cutting the floor open to avoid the long, muddy crawl 👍🏼
Chainsaws rule for fast acess to hard to get to spots. Good job on the repair Brother. I would crawl under there and dig a trench to make the plumbers more acess.
If you have any way to get a fan under the house to circulate air I’d strongly recommend it. Plug it in and leave it longer than you think you should then leave it blowing some more. About a year ago I found a water leak under my house that had been a steady drip for who knows how long, maybe a month, maybe two years. Ended up causing mold to grow under the entire house and cost about 11,000 to have it dry ice blasted and removed. Also if your crawl space doesn’t have it I’d suggest a vapor barrier all over under the house (6ml plastic)
Dalton we admire and adore you. You have so many teachable moments for all of us. I am appreciative for the way you handle the pop up, didn't see this coming moments. Your resiliency is amazing. Your videos are phenomenal!
The craw space in my parent's house didn't have much room. The summer that I was twelve dug a person width trench under all of the plumbing so that my Dad could more easily crawl in there. It was my idea. We lived in the middle of nowhere and I was bored.
Watching you you on your shoulders in that hole triggered PTSD i didnt know i had...lmao. About a month ago my husband was replacing 3 little gear box things in the dash of his car that operated the vent flaps of his dash vents. They were positioned so awkward that his big hands couldn't reach in there with the socket to get the old ones out and put the new ones in so he asked me to do it. He's 5'11 and 220 lbs. Im 5'5' 112lbs. I was on my shoulders, upside down in the floor board for about 45 min off and on. My neck wasnt right for days after that! Did i mention im 54 yrs old?😖😭 I justified it because it saved us 400 dollars in mechanics labor the shop was gonna charge! Im proud to be frugal so that gives me tge right to bitch....😂
The best compliment anyone can give is not that someone is perfect. It's that they know how to cope when things go wrong. You remained calm and fixed the problem. That's all that matters....life will throw something else your way soon enough.
If that's grey (hard to see for sure) it's likely polybutylene pipe. you definitely want to get it all replaced while you're doing the bathroom. Its a mess, and will continue to break until it's all gone. I had it in my house and luckily it's all gone now.
We sat down to dinner one night, years ago. I heard water running so I sent one of the kids upstairs to check the faucets while I checked the main floor and basement. I got to the basement and found that the water tank was leaking with water running into my rec room and right under the LIT Christmas tree! I got my shop vac out right away so the insurance company waived the deductible and I got a new carpet out of it. 🇨🇦❤️
Having a few SharkBite or similar push-to-connect fittings around is definitely a good thing. At the very least it's smart to have a cap, but a coupling and a quarter turn valve are also great. In an emergency it's easier to shove a valve onto the pipe while it's open, so you're not working against the water pressure, and THEN close the valve.
That was a blessing for sure that you were there and heard that running water. And now those pipes can all be replaced too. Good to hear you found a plumber to work with too. 😊
The gray pipe is called Polly B they use this in homes in the 1970s to early 90s it is prone to cracking and breaking it will all need to be replaced. I too experienced this with my first home. Truly enjoy watching your videos keep them coming.
Misery loves company…back in February I had some major remodeling done in my home, and 2 days before it started, my hot water heater started leaking in my garage where I had packed up dozens of boxes of household items for the remodel! It was a Friday about supper time, and the owner of the remodeling company came over to get it drained and mopped up until the plumber could come and install a new one. I guess calling him in tears helped😂.
Yeah, I think someone above is looking out for you. Dealing with this now instead of later is a difference of a world. I've dealt with a friend's broken water line during a cold Canadian winter night and it gave me a nasty cold and frost bite.
To be honest polybutylene pipes require a purpose built cutters and crimpers. As someone else noted your best option is replacement of all poly b lines.
You saved the day Dalton. No panic just got it done. Is it worth keep some tools you might need in the house? Or just keeping them in the truck? 👏👏👏🤞🤞❤❤
I feel for you, my water lines are cpvc and have froze and busted out at the joints so many times. That year it went to -19 degrees it resulted in every joint having to be replaced under the whole house. We are hoping to eventually go to pex since it is better about not blowing out if it freezes.
Homeownership. My water stopped in the middle of my shower, second day in house. Replaced all piping from road through home. Well worth it. Use your phone to see farther around.
Depending on who wins this election, the outlook for the future economically, im going to be selling my house.‘it’s a 1949 and that’s my worst nightmare. I can’t get a plumber or electrician or anyone out here. An electrician came and was suppose to give me a price for a couple small jobs. A month went by.. 🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗 took me a year to get a plumber to replace wax seal and water line on toilet and it was $485 when they finally came. I use to love old homes, but now being a widow for over a decade, I can’t take the stress anymore. Need new windows , 750 sf , and they said plan in 15k but could be more…. 🤦♀️ I’m gonna let some young couple take over and enjoy the process of updating it. You’re fortunate you can do all Of that.
I hate to hear that but it may be a smart idea. Being a widow in an old house isn’t a great combination. And yeah you’re right, labor and material prices just continue to climb faster and faster. That’s why I’m trying so hard to get ahead in life now with this house
See plumbing is not that bad 😂😂😂. Don't let the city swap out your meter to the new digital ones. They did mine and my water usage has doubled I'm told they are more accurate.
Chainsaw remodeling, now you're talking my language! Home ownership, ain't we having fun now? If it is slow to dry put a cheap portable fan down there. Moving air will dry it up quick.
Glass is heavy and unwieldy. Eleven hours is a LONG stretch! To go from that work day to further tiring and hard activity is asking a lot of yourself! Please be careful! Being overtired is not a smart move. I know that you already know this but a bit of a reminder seems not out of place! We all care about you and you did have a scary episode!

Definitely replacing it all after this. Theres not much of it left, they already redid the kitchen sink with modern pex
Rock on MM! Good emergency repair
I always say things happen for a reason, I think it's a good opportunity to see exactly what is under the house before actually getting all the renovation done and then having to tear it back up, this way you know it will be solid.
Your glass is almost full and that is a good thing!
The joys of owning your own home, but in the end, it will all be worth it. Good job! I'd enjoy a racoon video too 😂
Luckily it broke in the crawlspace and not inside the house.😳 Also, I'm pretty impressed with your Cirque du Soleil level agility skills getting in and out of that crawlspace lol🤩 It's nice to see you laugh and smile since you're usually pretty serious in your videos😉
Amazed at your attitude. I expected this. You are rolling through this punches like a pro.

Yeah that’s good advice!
Good thing you found it now and already have planed to replace all that before winter.
Yay for simple plumbing fixes!
Glad you found it an was able to do a quick fix for now !! Have plumber go through all water lines while their at it !!
You are so lucky that happened when it did! Great job on a quick repair. You did exactly what I would have done by cutting the floor open to avoid the long, muddy crawl 👍🏼
Im so impressed with you. Your attitude is great. Most 25 yr olds would not react your way. You tackled the problem and move forward. Fantastic.
Thanks! I know panicking never helps any situation
Chainsaws rule for fast acess to hard to get to spots. Good job on the repair Brother. I would crawl under there and dig a trench to make the plumbers more acess.
They’re coming back out tomorrow and I’ll show them this and see what they think they need!

**I Thank God You got a good handle on it.

Wow! That is above and beyond the capacity and care of most kids that age!

So glad it happened now and not later! You got this!
Your parents did such a great job raising you, you stay calm, you think on your feet and you get the job done!! Sorry that crawl space is so short!!
It is what it is! Haha thank you!
The best compliment anyone can give is not that someone is perfect. It's that they know how to cope when things go wrong. You remained calm and fixed the problem. That's all that matters....life will throw something else your way soon enough.
Hopefully some good stuff!!

Yeah it is grey and I’ve noticed an the connectors are very brittle

Love how the comments on this channel always have great knowledge and solutions to impart!
Sorry for laughing at your 6foot + frame trying to exit out that hole! But it was kinds funny
Its okay i was also laughing lol

Nice job Dalton! Those are a lifesaver. Glad the floor did have to get sealed up with you in it! 😁🤣👍👍👍👍
Is that polybutylene?
I like how you make a good thing out of a bad thing.

They used to use that in mobile homes also and it created a mess as it got old.
We are so pleased with your journey. You are great at facing problems head on. Christ has given you special skills. Onward

Hey look at the bright side of things now You can make shirts that say sometimes you just gotta lay their and take it 😂
Hi Dalton, glad you found the problem and temporary fixed it. It could have been worse.
Your sweet home reminds me of the knight in the Monty Python skits always losing a piece of himself! But still cheerful! 🗡
Your next water bill is gonna suck. On the brighter side watching you try to get out of that hole was fun! 🤣
Everybodies idea of fun must be different🤔
@@bthomson well yeah, mines strange but harmless lol.

Only a truly good friend would climb into that crawl space. I hope you gave him a bottle of something good.
@@susanlee2660 we trade labor on each others houses haha i’ve helped him with a lot of work in the attic also

I definitely plan to
You saved the day Dalton. No panic just got it done. Is it worth keep some tools you might need in the house? Or just keeping them in the truck? 👏👏👏🤞🤞❤❤
I try to keep everything in hand but the tool you need is always the one you don’t have!
Murphy's law to the problem! 🍀
atleast yk u have a good plumber 😂
