I suggest the temporary $20 fix then when you remodel move the dryer to exterior wall and vent directly through wall
Harbor Freight is such a Redneck Dream Paradise not gonna lie I love that freakin store even if some stuff is just junk.
Love your vids. Prob a good idea to wear some kind of mask under there, I’m sure it’s a pain in the ass to talk, but there’s lots of mold spores in moist areas . Could give u a lung infection :(. Have a good turkey day :). Ps. Agree with the others, just get a heat pump dryer, no vent needed, just heightened lint maintenance. AND runs on 110 :). Pss, now there’s an all in one washer and dryer from GE, Samsung and LG. The Samsung has the best reviews. Takes 2-3 hrs, but gain lots of space :)
A single ditch should work well enough to direct water around the house. Maybe an additional smaller one halfway up to catch heavy heavy rainfall.
I vote for moving the dryer to the outside wall, and for putting the vapor barrier in the crawl space. You were very brave with the spiders and cricket, and did a great job with the pipe insulation. What on Earth is in your attic?! 😱 lol
I saw iron water pipes hopefully they are dead if not should replace. Idk rot beam may be termite damage
What about installing a vapor barrier under house. Plastic sheet weighted to ground with small gravel or sand ?
@@davidspensberger7862 it needs it for sure
Are you able to move the dryer to outside wall? I have the same problem with water going under house, french drain did make a huge difference, but when it rains cats and dogs, well, not perfect.
I would definitely move the dryer across the room to the outside wall and vent it directly outside. Might have to run a new electrical outlet for it though. Just a thought.
Bays English Muffins - YES! They are gooood! 😋
This boy likes his spice
move the wiring to the outside wall and move dryer to other side of the room then vent outside
Relocate your laundry room outside in your ports completely
Can you get condensing dryers in the US? I have a dryer without a vent, and after drying a load of clothes I pull out a container on the front of the appliance and pour the water away in the sink. (I also use it, when cooled, to water plants, and also in my steam cleaner since it is condensed so shouldn't contain any minerals.)
Hang a laundry line and then put everything (once it’s dry) in the dryer for 5 minutes to soften up the clothing. Then you can vent into crawl space. 🇨🇦❤️
Straight out the back wall behind the washer
Because your crawl space is dirt, and your property is on a hill. You are absolutely right When the ground gets soaked it all runs right underneath your house. So you literally need a wall on the highside or "French drain". where most the water comes from. Maybe even 2, with one being higher up the hill and deeper than the other. Ive done similer jobs where we even ran pvc pipe along the bottom a drilled holes in the top all the way before we put the rocks in over top.
Dalton i had same problem and dryer was moved to outside eall. Even though washer and dryer were on dofferrnt walls but it was fine. very easy outside wall.
Everything your running into is all repairable. Fact of the matter is it passed some type of inspection to be sold to you, so id just to your best to take care of the important things so that you can live in it for a few years, then sell it again. Ise the money as a down payment for something better and ise this property as a platform to build your channel. The way i see it these house videos are going to pave the way to your future substantially anyways im here to what happens for the long run lol
No idea about venting pipe work from your dryer just so relieved there were no snakes in the crawl space. Spiders not nice and crickets OK. Spiders would eat the mozzies! Not enough protein? I would be more worried about the fat content. Keep safe and well❤️❤️👏👏
Been watching for some time now, retire two years ago, am licensed plumber and built new houses , owned construction company, would go quick way for now, if your planning on foundation repair in future plan on venting then. New dryer restrict the distance of dryer vent length and never try to vent dryer vertical lint traps to easily.
Why can't you just leave the dryer vent under the crawl space as far as it will go and just cap the end so the animals can't crawl into the pipe. I mean use some type of cap so the air can still escape. A long time ago I couldn't reach to get my dryer vent attached to the wall so I just let it blow into the room, yes you do a bit of dust that the dryer vent doesn't collect but it's not really that bad. Just try and do the easiest way, winter is coming soon. Don't cut the joist.
Home owner always has something to fix , I like how your always asking for ideas instead of just doing an not knowing if it the right way 😊❤
Move the dryer to a outside wall. It would make it a cinch to clean out the vent also . You want to keep the vent as short as possible. The way you suggested is too long. You would need to buy a new dryer with a high output fan to avoid future problems .
A six pack, three shovels, and a cloudy day.
Hey Dalton, short of total make over of your utility room, I'd opt for the $20 inhouse lint collector vent. With laundry once a week, humidity should only be a problem in the Summer months, since most homes with forced air gas heat are like the desert. A dehumidifier should take care of any issue. The other options will require a lot of work to install, with long runs and probably will plug with lint over time, that time better spent on some other project. Just my opinion.
Option 5: Get a ventless heat pump dryer. Instead of using hot air they basically use a heat pump to dehumidify the clothes. They used to be super expensive but are coming down in price where they're more in line with a regular gas or electric dryer. If the current dryer is in good shape maybe you can even get a few bucks for it to help offset the cost of the new one.
I'll give you a $10 idea for the vent. I'm against going vertical with a vent as gravity will keep the lint trapped in the piping. Not strong enough air flow to blow it out. I'm also against long horizontal runs for the same reason. If it was me, I'd go straight down under the house into a homemade filter canister made from a 5 gallon plastc bucket with a lid on it. Drill holes around it to avoid air pressure build up and empty it every 5 years. I think the French drain is the easiest option, but I think heavy black plastic from the drain ditch up to the house foundation would prevent water intrusion from roof runoff. Quite the interesting spelunking adventure, I enjoyed the variety of support piers. Kind of like staligtites and staligmites. I also like that you ask for ideas. I've seen too many guys go blindly where others fear to tread, often making huge headaches for themselves. Having quick access to a water shut-off is very important. I once had a shower fitting let loose while I was watching TV. I instantly knew what was happening and flew out of the recliner for the valve outside. I bet there was less than a gallon of water leaked. There was no water damage, and it was a cheap repair all because I had good access to that valve. Another good video. 😁
Move the dryer to an outside wall … long term that would be best
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day; always build it with the highest quality materials available! 😂
Seeing that laundery room slab proves house has flooded alot. Forget the dryer ducting go buy a in room dryer kit,it allows dryers to be used with out a outside connection. I would relocate washer and dryer to the back wall, you only need to slot the concrete to run drain to the bathroom and run water lines .You want better protection from ground water under the house you need a 3 foot stem wall acroos the whole backwall of the addittion with a water proof coating and french drain ,This means you have to demo the laundry room slab to do it right, This is why a crawl space is superior to a slab in the bathroom-laundry ,It alows the earth to dry if it gets wet and if you ever have a plumbing issue you can acess it,Plut far cheaper in and easier to install then concrete.
I'm for the short-term solution of the in house kit for $20. My daughter has one in her apartment and it seems to do the job. It's probably not high on your list, but if you think you will remodel down the road then I would consider trying to move the dryer to the other side of the room on the exterior wall so you could just vent it straight out from there.
Another great video…I can only imagine your attic if you would rather be in the crawlspace! “Nightmare fuel” made me laugh out loud- I’ve never heard that phrase before. I certainly don’t know enough about vents and drains to give you an intelligent suggestion, but keep up the hard work, I’m rooting for you!
Is it possible to just let the dryer vent go behind the washer also and then run it out the opposite wall
Remember, you’re going to have to clean that pipe out once in a while from lint, so try to figure out the shortest distance you have to go, not up the wall and into the attic or the roof not a good idea
If you’re thinking of someday relocating the dryer to or nearer to an exterior wall, the quick and dirty fix would be the interior vent/filter system for a temporary solution. Just try not to forget about it then all of a sudden it’s ten years later and causing problems. It’ll get you back in the clothes washing business in a few minutes. As for the drainage, without being there and seeing it, I would definitely try a French drain along the back of the house with an aggressive down grade involved. And if possible go a few feet up the hill and build an angling diversion to keep as much water as possible from making it all the way downhill to the house We do a lot of surface drainage work all the time and there usually are options to solve most every problem Also, and this comes from recent personal experience, do as soon as you can, get a permanent dehumidifier running 24/7 in your crawl space even if it means running a circuit just for it. And even if it means getting an engineers opinion as to sizing it for CFM, average weather conditions etc
I was wondering about putting a dehumidifier down there. I wasn’t sure if that was common practice or not
@ idk that it’s real common but with the rainwater intrusion history it wouldn’t hurt. Won’t cost much to do it I don’t think. And we’re in a humid part pf the planet
You have to grade away from the house on the hillside. We lived on a hill and we had terraced the hillside leading toward the house. Since around our house was packed with fill and sloped away, we never had a wet basement. You have the slope on the far side. All the water will go in that direction and away. That's the beauty of living on a hill.
Cool useful handmade gift from ur grandpa 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. Also, if you are going to eventually remodel the laundry room area just get a Dryer Lint Trap Kit for $20 and call it a day
Bite the bullet now and make a plan to move the location of your laundry, or at least the dryer in your laundry room. Long vent runs for dryers are not the best solution. Going thru the roof, dont do that either. Best bet is a short run thru an outside wall. The dryer is electric, yes? All you need to move is a wire. The house is torn up now so in the meantime let the dryer rip into the crawlspace and move forward on the renovations. Nice work in the crawlspace.
GET A BOX AND FILTER, ITLL HEAT LAUNDRY ROOM WHEN DRIER RUNNING
Hi Dalton, good job on insulating the pipes in your crawl space, not fun. I would do the 20 dollar solution for now. Then when you remodel the utility room you can address the vent then. Maybe move the dryer to an outside wall in the future.
You can do a temporary indoor vent only with electric dryer. I've done in the past its not good for moisture and bacteria in your house and it's hard on your dryer timer, and heat systems as mine needed parts over time and the tech said it was caused by restricted ventilation (inside) also I have a split entry house and have had issues with mice, chipmunks, and birds nesting in the exhaust that is a foot above ground. Good video and good luck
Kudos for getting the pipes insulated working in that crawlspace, ughh. If the laundry room has an outside wall, and you have an electric dryer, could the 5th option be to move the dryer to the outside wall with an easy job of venting it outside right behind the dryer? Otherwise, I think I like the idea of trying the interior ventilation.
I don't know if you have such a thing as electrical tape in your part of the world, if yes you could wrap a little around the blue pipes with red tape so you know they are the hot water ones. Just a suggestion, you're very brave being with all those creepy crawlers & spiders....shudders 😬
You're doing good. I vote for : Relocating the dryer to vent to an outside wall. For your long-term health, please reduce the fats in your diet.
Maybe use an offset periscope venting system? I 10/10 dont recommend the indoor kit on that house. It already seems to have potential to hold in moisture underneath due to your draimage issues, which I know you are trying to fix, but the moisture under the house is already likely causing moisture in the house without you realizing it. So the offset might be your best option if you can make that work. You may need to use a small duct at the beginning and open it up as soon as you can get it to a place where you can. Not ideal, and you would have to be sure to clean it out more often but its a good option for someone like you that stays on top of things. Good luck! You will get it figured out I am sure.
Move the dryer to the exterior wall and go through the wall.
You might try an indoor vent that has replaceable or reusable filters . Amazon has one black Friday priced for 31 bucks. For your sink in the bathroom have you considered an Oatey Sure-Vent . It would save a hole in your roof if they are allowed in your area.
My very non-professional opinion is to do the $20 solution. If you don't like it or it doesn't work, you can change it when you remodel the room. In the meantime, you'll be able to use the dryer. We lived with an indoor vent made of an ice cream bucket with a hole in the lid for years without any problem. Five people in the house, no noticeable extra lint or humidity, lots of laundry weekly.
Honestly I’d try to vent the dryer through an outside wall, moving the outlet, or running the vent down the interior wall a good ways in my opinion is easier than anything you mentioned. Or depending on where the joist is, moving the vents exit point to avoid the joist all together could be an option. Getting through wood though is better than stone in my opinion. Being that you’re in Arkansas I’d leave the roof alone if I were you. If you don’t want to snake it through the wall, or relocate the dryer, disguise it under or over shelving, or hide it some other way. It’s an old house, there a lot of options. I grew up in an old house, we had original exterior windows looking into our bedrooms. The bedrooms were an addition and they didn’t want to take the time to drywall or frame them in. My Dad turned them into double sided shelves with wood panel backing on both sides. The bedrooms were quieter and had privacy, and the windows were gone lol.
