@@marley8318 I retired from a Building Material business that supplied commercial and residential builders. These companies send their employees, superintendents, buyers, estimators and foreman’s to seminars to show/teach and stress the point to back charge or short pay like Trump brags about to these subcontractors. It shows up as a profit line on their books and some employees get bonuses based on profit per job. It’s an orchestrated action within some companies to have these policies. If you do good work and have a agreed contract then you should get paid.

The last contractor probably pulled out because he could see that the homeowner is not an honest dealer. $6k for the initial job is very reasonable. His hiding behind his wife’s supposed wishes, frankly, is just cowardly. Trying to bust up your crew is just rotten.

Had my floor level, compacted, poly, meshed, and pex piped, and they did it for $1.50/sq ft, hand trowel only which i like for my 40x60. I paid for all material/concrete which i think was $110/yrd. Retired GC and Sr Construction Inspector, Public Works. It is very unfortunate that customers like this exist. Most of the time, within a few minutes of conversation, you can pickup hints of these kinds of people that you don't want to do business with. I never advertised my business and kept plenty busy with just reference. Although, I declined many contracts after some very short conversations. Your price, the detailed quality work and your very competent crew is a bargain. Just another lesson for all of those doing thier honest best to earn a living. A fine example of how to resolve the difficult situation that every contractor will eventually experience. If this dude would like some cheap labor to work on the side. Have them do the work, then declare that the employer didn't cover the Workers Compensation, matching taxes, unemployment insurance, provide them with paid breaks, etc etc. Homeowners who want to play business games and play the "IM SAVING MONEY BECAUSE IM SMART " need to be taught a hard lesson. This scenario is not a concept. It has happened many times here on the LEFT COAST wacko world of Comifornia. Be well and stay safe. Great job sir.

Some people are morons. They either think they know everything or they don't listen. This explains why the deal fell through. They didn't want to have to deal with this guy. When a deal doesn't go through, I would ask why. At least, I would communicate it on paper with a work order and have him sign it. They can't argue with that. Some will, anyway, though. Kevin's and Karen's! You do excellent work! Thanks again!
