I stumbled onto this video and found a real gem! Learned more here in eight minutes than in six lessons. What an inspiration. At 65 years old, it's true. Old dog learns new tricks. Thanks so much, best wishes from the Laurel Highlands of the Allegheny Mountains, Pennsylvania USA.
What I find in this tuning is, it makes a self taught guitar player like myself, use their little finger, your pinkie more often. I write Christian music and sometimes I am asked to play my little tunes. I have been doing it for 40 years, but my playing abilities is limited because I'm self taught. So until I learn the right way, these different tunings are very helpful. I do use drop D tuning sometimes, but this is DADGAD tuning is oh so pretty. Thank you
I too have been playing Christian music for 40 plus years but never in DADGAD tuning before. I think I'm excited about the possibilities that this could lead to in my Christian journey. Bless & keep you bro. William from Bonnie Scotland.

This is by far the best video on UA-cam on DADGAD. None that I've seen make it so clear what precisely one gains from using the tuning, i.e. what are its inherent qualities.
After wading through lots of videos I found yours, and it was like having light bulbs going off in my head. Your comment about scales in the first position being even across the neck gave me the start I had been looking for. My wife has been amazed, my 12 fret short scale hog/blackwood Taylor never sounded more resonant and I've probably strained my shoulder playing all kinds of made up tunes in the last 90 minutes. THANK YOU!!!
I've long been a fan of your music, now I'm also a fan of your teaching. Great clarity and simplicity. Love it! Thank you for sharing these DADGAD insights and I hope you'll share more. The more we can take thinking out of music, the more music we can make. You just helped me do that.
The flat 7 note in D is what helps give it that Irish sound especially if the tune is a slow air, gorgeous guitar too, although DADGAD is associated with Celtic music it was actually developed by English folk player Davy Graham, 👍
Folk music all around the British isles is very similar and shared between all the nations there. Thats because all the peoples are in fact related to each other, even the English.
Muriel: DADGAD has been my nemesis! It has been that illusive "secret" to me for my 60 years of playing guitar. in 8 minutes, you may have opened the door for me! While I subbed at the OTSFM, I never was taught or learned anything about the tuning. Now, I look forward to rearranging some of the tunes I do for DADGAD! Looking forward to seeing you sometime this year, probably Thanksgiving, but, hopefully EARLIER! Continued success!
I hope this opens some ideas for composing for you! This popped up in my inbox again after a long while and it's just as beautiful. I wish you would do a video about other keys in DADGAD. I have found G to be especially rewarding, but never gone beyond that (and D, obviously!). Thanks again. It stands the test of time.
I Absolutely LOVED Your Guitar Tuning & Picking. It was so refreshing & so free flowing. I will study & practice. I also have a Similar tuning to Yours. Which is DADDAD That I use on My 12 String Guitars. It gives me & Creates a sort of a Semi Middle Eastern Feel & Sound. I am originally a self taught Drummer. But I am also self taught on 9 Instruments. I can not read music & play & compose all by Ear. So most of my own teaching is by trail & error. The two pieces of music You played off Your CD Muriel. I Totally Loved the way it weaved, & blended so openly. So Gentle, Subtle, Delicate & Flowed Like Butterflies in an open field. Thank You Very Much Muriel. For This, Your Blessing & Gift Of Your Musical Talent. That You Shared. Thank You Peace Love & Great Happiness Highest Respect & Regards From Xavier
Incredible playing and great rundown. I'm probably not as experienced as some of the other commenters, but I've been finally tapping into improvisation after a couple years of playing, and DADGAD seems amazing for it, it's half already familiar and the other half just beautiful sounding. Hearing how you play it was awe-inspiring. Your explanation was good, too, right to the point. Also, Long Island, represent lol
Definitely Muriel, gives some great ideas, especially for a guy who just got another new Martin and promised himself to dig deep into celtic fingerstyle and different tunings. Having a great time with it so vids like this are golden. Thank you! - Phil
Super Hero Holding the key of life :) May Peace Be with you every time we hold on to it every time it feels we die a little bit. It bleeds us out with these vibratic emotions of release. and rebirth. DAGAD is great key opener to the wonders of this world.
Its funny how 1 video can change your life and concept, I'm trying these techniques out on my harp guitar, - its very generous of you to share this! Thanks
Loved those patterns!I am mostly a rhythm player and I absolutely love the richness of open chords that can be played in DADGAD tuning, Thank you for the tips.! Going to try it! Keep it coming!
Excellent instructive video. I play four songs in DADGAD tuning, (South City Midnight Lady, Willin', Help Me Through The Night, and Aint Much Left Of Me). But I never really explored DADGAD. Will now. Thank you Muriel for opening another path of the never ending journey of guitar. By the way have been a fan for quite sometime. My granddaughter loves your duet with Tommy Emmanuel of Vincent, as do I.
Thank you very much Muriel! You have motivated me to fiddle around with dad gad. Beautiful melodies, I enjoyed them very much. By4now, Dave in the Adirondacks
I like the squiggly lines bit. A very good lesson Muriel, I've struggled with DADGAD over the years on and off but you've put into perspective for me. I have only just come across you and I think you're an amazing guitarist and tutor. Thank you.
I think it's ideal for those who transition from mandolin to guitar. I have been playing mandolin, and I prefer perfect fifths violin tuning, so standard guitar turning is super wierd to me, how can one even play melody on that, doesn't make sense. With DADGAD I think it's much easier and logical.
Hi Muriel, how the world has changed since we met in Reno! Thanks so much for this video. My hand joints have deteriorated and playing full positions has become painful. LJ suggested I try DADGAD but my brain has been having some trouble finding notes. This has given me hope! (and a road map!) Take care, stay well. DR
You are an amazing guitarist/classical guitarist. Im going through you comments and you have people of all ages and music taste who is complimenting your playing 👏🏼
Thank you. I'll be buying at least one of your books, but I'm confident that that is not your sole motivation. I'm sure you've seen the DADGAD Folk Robots videos, which are hillarious. I'm still glad you made this video because it gives me something to play with.
On My Way Home good job, could very much be a Luka Bloom tune, he inspires me as well. Tunes i create are very much suited to have lyrics. People think i sound like some famous artists but i dont think i my music sounds like any others.
Very cool. Thanks for sharing your style, I just ran across you while listening to dadgad arrangements.. I will look further into you music. -Wonderful ! m.s.
Thanks Muriel. It took me a second to figure out DADGAD was the tuning. You know us mountaineers are a little slow but we get there eventually. Love the demo.
I enjoyed this very much. As a lifelong guitarist that has shied away from alternate tunings, mostly due to the 'relearning' of scales, and chord positions... (as a 'lead' player, who loves to riff in between the chords..etc...) I found some of your concepts intriguing. I am picking up your books....and just watching for a moment, gave me some insight..with the 'lines' concept..... Thanks :)
Amazing! I love DADGAD. Please try this one: DADEAD. It opened a whole new window of melody for me. The original was a whole step lower. Starting in "C"
+Bobby Grimes Thanks Bobby. I'd love to return to Hawaii. I was so inspired after being there last time I wrote a tune, Hawaiian Lulliby, which is on my CD Nightlight Daylight or you can find just the song here itunes.apple.com/us/album/nightlight-daylight/id884756049?app=music&ign-mpt=uo%3D4
I just found you through this lesson on DADGAD.THANKS. You are a magic and thanks for a great lesson. Its a little hard to spot where you are with no dots on your guitar.
That’s gorgeous fingerstyle mixolydian Celtic. Kudos

Amazing. That does make for beautiful music. I think the birds were enjoying your tunes.
We are also lucky to have UA-cam to watch Aldi's talented knowledgeable people sharing all this good stuff

Really helpful introduction to DADGAD
With those shades I'm getting major Sarah Connor T2 vibes
Dam.. very accurate description.
Three years later this comment got me!
Timeless classic 😂😂😂
I'm so glad Sarah survived.
I first watched this 3 years ago I now play in Dadgad all the time. Thanks for showing me the tuning of the Gods. 🤩👍
thank you Muriel. that was so helpful
This is by far the best video on UA-cam on DADGAD. None that I've seen make it so clear what precisely one gains from using the tuning, i.e. what are its inherent qualities.
By far! Theeeee most informative, illustrative and musical DADGAD I have found on youtube. I did learn today a good thing! Thank you.
You're welcome!
Thank you, very useful info

Greatly appreciate that the sheet music for Always Coming Home was free, even though there were forms to fill out. Beautiful sounds.
Beautiful, the birds were singing along Muriel. 🎸🕊️💓🦉.

Je redécouvre votre vidéo avec plaisir. Je n'aurai jamais votre niveau mais je continue de jouer de la guitare, même en DADGAD. Merci 😊
i cannot express by words my deepest appreciation for Muriel Anderson sweet and encouraging lessons ! Thanks so much!
Beautiful songs, Muriel. Thanks for the lesson!

Thank you for heads up on your teaching channel. I put my guitar up 2 yr ago. My heart misses music. Thx again.
Wonderful tips Ma'am. That hammer and pull off play is so good. I love it. (practicing)
Love your flatted seventh too... It is a gift to be able to simplify what for many people is hugely complicated. You got it " guitariste".
Very Cool
David Rona
Very helpful and such beautiful melodies
This is one of the best dadgad tutorials I have seen thanks

What a great lesson! Gives you freedom to enjoy music! Thanks master!

I use the same tuning on my 12 strings. I've wrote a lot of tunes in that tuning. Well it;s like there are in there waiting to be found. lol
On my way home very nice melody quit relaxing to listen thanks for sharing Muriel!!!
Beautiful tunes. I just start really delving into alternate timings and it's opened up so many possibilities.
