I had the pure joy of seeing Tommy perform at The Sheldon in St. Louis this past Friday-- a birthday gift from my wife. She sweetened the 'best gift ever' with a pre-show meet & greet! Tommy is kind. Genuine. Inspiring. Pure joy. Took a genuine interest in each guests' questions & comments. Tommy said, "I'm in the happiness business. I make people happy." Sounds a lot like serving others. The concert was the best I've ever attended ... & I've seen many. After several encores and standing ovations... everyone slowly left the theatre... not wanting the evening to end. Needless to say my 'happy level' continues to be off the charts. Thank you, Tommy. See you again next time. 😎🎸👍
I have the incredible privilege of being in session with Muriel tomorrow morning at the Tommy Emmanuel Guitar Camp! I am so excited to learn from such an incredible artist!!! Such amazing talent!
This takes me back 40 years ago, when Tommy and Phil would play their duet act in Sydney pubs. When Muriel and Tommy played Mr Bojangles, I was transported back to that time. Absolutely wonderful. Thank you.
@@tracyavent-costanza346 Throughout the 1980s Tommy was doing (among other things) an instrumental duet with his brother Phil, playing pub gigs all over Australia. They would typically perform three 40 minute brackets, and during the middle bracket, Tommy would do his solo Fingerstyle routine. After Tommy became an international artist during the mid 90s, performing an entire act of his solo Fingerstyle show, he would come back to Australia every few years and still do the occasional concert tour with Phil. Phil Emmanuel sadly passed away in 2018. There are quite a few good UA-cam videos of Tommy and Phil (aka The Emmanuel Brothers) performing together.
Two beautiful souls making beautiful music. Murial and Tommy are two of the kindest most humble and talented people I have ever met. I enjoyed your sets at 2022 CAAS and I enjoyed this tremendously...now subbed!
That's so cool how you dreamed it then played it the next day.My son Carey every day for 3 days tried to ride his bike.In morning on 4th day Carey got straight out of bed went out the front door hopped on his bike and rode it.He excitedly told me,he had a dream he rode it,woke up and did just that.🚵♂️🌠
Hi Muriel. I’ve been listening to Tommy for years (thanks to my dear brother) and even introduced him (Tommy) to my daughter at a meet and greet in New York. I really loved hearing your cover duet of Mr. Bojangles. And I wanted to add, because I don’t remember hearing it mentioned, that that beautiful song was written by Jerry Jeff Walker and based upon a true event in Jerry’s life when he met the real Bill Bojangles Robinson in a Texas jail where they had both been arrested for being intoxicated in public. Bojangles was the black butler in the old Shirley Temple movies. Yes, that’s the same Shirley Temple-Black who would years later become an Ambassador for the United States in the 70s, 80s and 90s. But I am just now discovering you. Imagine that! A point of reference, my brother worked with David Bromberg, Vassar Clemens, John Hartford, Norman Blake, Sam Bush, Tut Taylor, Dave Holland and Jethro Burns in a collaboration to produce a live concert and record album years ago. So many great musicians during a truly magical time and I was blessed to be there to witness it. Such a small and wonderful world that we live in. So thanks for sharing this concert and hopefully we’ll connect again in the future. And thanks again to Tommy for just being himself. Only blessings and continued success in making beautiful music.
David Bromberg, who backed up Jerry Jeff on guitar on "Mr. Bojangles," explained that JJ had not "met the real Bill Bojangles Robinson in a Texas jail." It was in a segregated parish jail in New Orleans, and the fellah was white, not Bill Robinson.
@@empathic11 Hi Hal and thanks for correcting the historical details via your connection from David Bromberg. I live and work not far from his store in Wilmington and keep meaning to stop in and hopefully meet Dave face to face to say hello. Another funny story in connection with Dave is that somehow, years after all those events I met and briefly dated a woman from Washington state who played a banjo she had named Rosie. According to her, she had played in Dave’s band for a time and had been in some kind of relationship with Dave back then. Her name was Laura Shulman. I don’t know the truth of that story but her banjo playing was one of the things that had attracted me to her.
@@empathic11 Just as a follow up on the historical thread, Bojangles (Luther Robinson AKA Bill Bojangles Robinson) was a black, American tap dancer. So perhaps the story of JJ’s meeting Bojangles in a jail was completely fictitious, an artistic fantasy that formed the basis of his song. Although considering that time when JJ would have run into him, maybe 40’s in the south, it’s definitely believable. Here’s a link to a short bio of Bojangles including a shot of him dancing with Shirley Temple Black, as I recounted. ua-cam.com/video/UWtImcRU_ug/v-deo.html Reading his Wikipedia biography sheds some additional light that perhaps the entire encounter was a fantasy relating Robinson’s famous imprisonment in New York in the 20’s. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Robinson

Sorry guys.... when you started playing "Why Worry" I lost it. The very joyful sound brings thoughtful tears but they can't continue with the joyfulness of the tune. God tells us to sing joyfully. This is played so lovingly and joyful that tears can not help but fall on my checks in awe of God's Grace and Mercy. Like Angels dance and sing along with you my heart rises to the moon beside each of you.
Its amazing how each person, in this case the guitarrist, can have their own way of playing and this is undertandable but, it is the flavour, the air and the sentiment you percieve when they are playing.

I know he playing is realllly great . ... but the sound audio quality too is reallllly great. I have undertook a new approach to guitar/music study ... still very novias though, so much ... need to be more methodical about it.
