With what shows this lute, and the music knowlege of 5 thousand years around the world, wil be possible a acoustic without electronics instrument who resembles a electric guitar with distorsion..?
@@ardibeltz541 The Distortion was made popular by Eric Clapton, if I recall correctly. The fresh band (Cream) did not have money for big Amplifiers, and they were not loud enough in the clean area of amplification. So Eric decided to simply make them louder, entering the area were tube amplifiers start clipping - the distorted guitar sound was made popular. Why I am telling You this? Well clipping just means the a sinus wave cannot reach its peak and is cut, this way becoming more a rectangular like shape. You can achieve that by String buzz or limiting the swinging amplitude of the top of an acoustic instrument. Most likely these are the least ask for features at luthiers for a reason...
@@rainerbernhardt6193 Thanks to you answer, i doesn't know that dates, really interesting, i love Cream! 🤩🎸🎶
I don't wanna learn guitar I wanna learn theorbo! 😢
The double strings are basically chords right? Can you set the distance of semitones between the two strings?
Isn't possible to make an electric instrumento that allow the user to set them on the fly, allowing such instrument to sound like a piano, having all the pholyponic possibility of it?
That sympathetic resonation is unreal. Totally comes through in the video. Gorgeous.
For real, it's almost like it has a plate reverb built-in
ive heard really good hurdy gurdies with insane sympathetic resonance like that but there the high pitched angelic cathedral notes instead of the bass. id love to hear both instruments together.

ua-cam.com/video/2Q4mKo9gBF4/v-deo.html
@@tia8580 It does, essentially.
@@SufferDYT It's closer to a spring reverb, I was referring to the way it sounds.
Who is your Gorge?! I distrust that Gorge, he gets dragged on stage for bad reasons.
This Lute is an absolute masterpiece and Don José should consider himself a legendary builder .
The sound is so ridiculously fast and perfectly developing/emanating and of such enormity that it never will need any environmental or artificially added reverb, this instrument is monstruously impressive ... especially the strenght and clarity of the bass course .
All in all : bonkers instrument made by a proper madlad ;)
Why don't ALL lutes look like this one? Being conservative is BAD! Finally you all should forget your stupid traditions, move over to 12 extra friendly resonating strings. Normal lutes do suck a lot! Woke up!
@@voornaam3191 what kind of parody is this supposed to be?
@@GameTimeWhy It was *supposed* to be the funny kind, I think. Unfortunately not by someone who could pull that off.
Wow,way to make the germane boring. 😂 Just joking of course.😉
I think I speak for many when I say we need an album featuring this amazing instrument, please!!
Yes, please......❣
Vinyl, analogue recording! SA-CD as well.
Yes.
Absolutely, would love to hear Zamboni and Piccinini played on this one, or maybe the transcriptions of JSB done by Paolo Cherici (ISBN13: 9790215323551)
check out the album 'songs from the labyrinth'. it features sting and edin karamazov playing the instrument.
Sounds wonderful!
Hey lindy
Now this isn't someone I expected to see but I agree
LINDYBEIGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh cool
nice to see you found your way to appreciating this amazing historical instrument
I got so blown away by the resonation it's so impressive

Pretty unusual to get such an accomplished player, spectacular instrument, timeless music, and, by the way, extraordinarily well-tuned instrument. What a pleasure.
For real, I didn't think I was gonna be up at 4am raptly watching someone play a lute that looks like it's straight out of a D&D campaign, but here I am.
This guy is like the musical Daniel Jackson.
As an guitar maker for 40 years, I have to say this is really beautiful.
I was _super_ confused when he played the first few chords and there was reverb effects added... that has the strongest sympathetic reverb I've ever heard. Wow
A low F? This calls for lute djent!
Somebody call Jared Dines
You TALK TOOOOOOOOO MUCH. Just play it. Lol
7:50 might be the best example of the reverb effect, gives you goosebumps to think that's all natural! Truly more of a work of art than an interment at that point.
Yes!😂
When I was at Syracuse University, I got to see a Gregorian Monk play this exact (or very nearly) mod. He had obviously been practicing for a very very long time. Definitely one of the most memorable “concerts” I have ever seen. There were only about 100 people watching though, so it was more like a private show vibe. If you ever get the opportunity to see someone experienced play one live, I highly recommend it, 11/10 experience.
I have no idea of what I have have done to deserve this clip, but this blew me away by miles! SPEECHLESS is such an understatement.
What a stunning instrument.
Physically and sonically beautiful.
Mindblown by the resonation, that is unreal.
Thanks for sharing, Brandon!
people.. get this man to 400 k already.. I NEED TO SEE HIS TWIN!!
His twin? He kinda looks like the video game streamer Datto.
His twin? At a guess I’d imagine he looks like him weirdly enough😊
For real
Maybe it's just me but he's like a young, musical Daniel Jackson (from Stargate SG-1)
forget see, i wanna hear him sing!
I mean, I totally thought there was reverb added at first. I was like, “wait, how is his voice dry but the lute has tons of verb?” Incredible sympathetic resonance! 👏🏼❤
I just heard it and said, "What a great sound." But then again, I'm a music producer and songwriter/singer. As long as you have good hearing you can easily develop your ear to be more aware.
@@billwhite9703 Thanks Bill, good advice. I think part of the confusion was the amount of compression/limiting that’s applied to UA-cam videos, which amplified the already insanely huge resonance of this unique instrument. But don’t worry, it only took me a handful of seconds to figure out what I was hearing. :)
@@jaredcaines6688Don’t worry about Bill, he’s clearly a jerk. Who knows if he even could hear the resonance? If he did he should have been more impressed by it than he was.
@@jaredcaines6688certainly he should have realized that you were complimenting the instrument, not asking for observations about your listening abilities. Anyone can think something that doesn’t make sense for a few seconds.
This is an absolutely MAGNIFICENT instrument. The volume, clarity and resonance are of unreal proportions.
I've wanted to learn the lute for over decade and this really is making me want to do so again.

What's the problem?

That thing is wild. It truly has a soul of its own. What an absolute masterpiece. I'd never heard that kind of sound before, and it's beautiful to see you handle and play it with the love and respect it deserves. That lute is more than an instrument, it's a friend to cherish.
This just happened to pop up in my suggestions… I’m glad I watched it! I got a 12 string guitar almost 3 years ago now and I can tell you, I noticed the difference in sound when I heard it in recordings as well as when I began taking lessons (my instructor played a 6 string). It’s a wonderfully fun and diverse instrument and everyone thought I was nuts because I never played before and I wanted to start with something so difficult. Only my instructor had faith in me. I played piano most of my life, which he said would make it easy for me to learn. I also play instruments by ear, so I can learn most anything. I was teaching myself before my first lesson. I love it!
That is the most beautiful sounding acoustic instrument I've ever heard. Brought a tear to my eye.
I'm in a tent in the middle of the desert on a bicycle tour. You can't imagine how great that sounds on the speaker for my cellphone!
Hahaha, I’m by the Rhein river on a bicycle tour, and same for my cell phone speaker. “Eurovelo 15”
Brandon, I heard you perform using this very lute last night in Chicago in the Music of the Baroque's "Viva Vivaldi" concert. After reading in the program notes that you have this UA-cam channel, I found this video which give an entire education about the nature this specific lute that you brought to your Chicago performance. Thank you for such a superb performance of Vivaldi's RV 93 Concerto for Lute in D major.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you came :)
@@brandonackerThat's what she said.......I'm sorry,I just couldn't help myself,I'll show myself out
As a novice luthier (built 5 acoustic instruments thus far) I find this astounding! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Brandon. Your love for your instruments adds to the pleasure of hearing your music.
That deserves a WOW! The resonance is incredible.
That low F note is something so rare to the human ear that it makes it incredible. And I hope one does not have to change strings in a decade or two.
This lute is so beautiful! What amazing sounds! Thank you so much for sharing. I know you will enjoy your new piece.
Mr. Dowland's Midnight is amazingly peaceful and lovely.... thanks for sharing...
Wow the internal resonance is really cool! Crazy how such a big sound can come from a relatively compact instrument 🤯👏
I LOVE THIS instrument! The performance is extraordinary! Please play more with it!
It seems to me that the strings are serving as the spring in a spring reverb unit. It's fascinating. I recall my reaction to the bouzouki I recently started playing--the resonation was astounding, to me. I played grinning for quite a while. This lute seems to amplify that effect greatly. Nice video!
Thanks for playing this beautifully made lute.
THE RESONANCE! Those first couple notes blew me away
Natural Ambient... That is one amazing sounding instrument, it is special, that luthier really is a master craftsman!
So beautiful! Thanks for demonstrating this gorgeous instrument. It must be a joy to hear live. I play the Indian classical sarangi and when it is finely tuned it produces a natural reverb with its 35 plus sympathetic strings.
You’re like the Bob Ross of music. I’m not the slightest bit interested in guitar, but I’m hanging on YOUR every word. Brilliant.
You videos are pure joy to this old man.
The sound of this lute it’s marvelous! Deep, persistent and worm. It remind me “ Il cannone “ the Paganini Violin. Extremely powerful. The spanish luter has done a great job
Beautiful sound to this lovely instrument! It sounds like a natural echo chamber...amazing!! I definitely agree with other comments...an album would definitely be much welcomed!! This man is a true musical treasure!!
Beautiful instrument, my son would have loved it. You play beautifully.

Majestic review of this instrument Mr. Acker.
She RINGS! 😍😍 what a beautiful instrument!! Can't wait to hear more of her!
Wow, what a beautiful instrument! That reverb from the lute is amazing! The whole instrument itself is incredible! So happy that everything came in one piece!

Hello I m content writer singer
No, but I'm ready to learn the Archlute. 😊
The sympathetics are amazing
The resonance is indeed astounding, at first in your intro I thought you added reverb only when were playing but then you talk over the vibrating strings and I was amazed !
That arch-lute sounds gorgeous!
That piece by Biber is seriously one of the most beautiful sounding songs, has such a eerie sad style to it. Ive replayed it on this video many times now. Just so cool sounding.
I can hear this instrument being played for hours. I love the unique sound it puts off. It's so full. You know?
Lovely. I couldn’t help but smile listening to you playing this beautiful instrument. Thanks for the sound healing
Not only is the instrument a miracle, but also the playing and interpretation in the examples are so beautiful! Thank you!
Just came across this post when looking up the lute as an instrument. Love the history and info given, the personal story behind even just getting the instrument shipped (!), and love the pieces selected and performances of those for demonstrating the instrument. Thanks for sharing!!!
Exquisite! Music produced by an amazing instrument and masterfully played, bravo.
Very cool, amazing resonance, and that back is dazzling
Beautiful ❤ I can’t wait to hear more on this lute!
What an awesome instrument! Great playing to do it justice. It seems like an instrument made for pieces that lend themselves to reverb rather than more intimate pieces. Truly great.
Such a beautiful sounding instrument!
That sound is so powerful it could easily play metal.
How cool would it be if that instrument was to come back for modern styles?
I believe that is one of the most beautiful instrument's I've heard. The craftsmanship speaks for it's self in every note you play.
I’m amazed. The sound is absolutely beautiful beyond description. Thank you so much for sharing your unique experience!
Wow, I honestly thought you had some sort of choir/cathedral effects going in the background for ambience when you played the first sample, but realized it was the lute itself! 🤩
I’m utterly addicted to hearing all these amazing instruments. I was wondering if you would ever go back to Ancient Greece and give the newly rediscovered Kithara a shot. I imagine you living in a multitude of previous lives as a musical master, and using my imagination, I could see you playing a Kithara in an ancient symposia in Athens under the beauty of the Acropolis and moonlit Greek sky. Call me an insufferable romantic. 😊 Thanks for sharing your amazing talent with us. ❤
That really is a gorgeous instrument! The back is absolutely beautiful, and the tone an resonance are even better.
What an exquisite instrument. Just a glorious sound. Thank you.
Sounds unbelievable! You should release a record of a bunch of medieval sounding songs with this bad boy!
As a Canadian, I appreciate you playing Biber and Zamboni
Such a beautiful-sounding stringed instrument. The resonance emanating from the body of that lute played by Brandon Acker was amazing!
I'm typically a fan of the simpler Renaissance Lute, but this one is incredible.
I prefer medieval mandolin.
@@kishascape yeah those are cool and probably easier to get ahold of without breaking the bank
Heinrich Biber is one of my favourite composers. His Colossal Baroque piece - Missa Salisbergensis - is a huge piece of glorious grandeur. His Passacaglia is very beautiful and sounds incredible on your new Lute-eorbo!
Which recording is best?
@@Galvann6 Musica Antiqua Koln, Paul McCreesh, 1998, has the cleanest version of it - the singers are true to the period and minimise vibrato and the ensemble are absolutely in lockstep with each other. Most other recordings end up in a bit of a mess because there are so many instruments all performing polyphonous pieces.
Musica Antiqua get it right, and the acoustics are phenomenal - the echo lasts for about 10 seconds. Just amazing.
What a wonderfully made instrument! So looking forward to seeing and hearing more of it in future videos
I was in a local folk music shop and someone was trying out a banjo... Then I heard her exclaim.. "How has this banjo got reverb?!". I pointed out that there was a small copse of harps behind her...
Love symp strings on instruments
I have to say I was blown away with the sound of that guitar, thanks for sharing , I've subscribed and gave it a thumbs up, I normally listen to drummer and percussion, but for some reason you got my attention. Can't wait for you to post a new piece playing that lute guitar.
Thank you.
The resonance on that lute is amazing, even on my phone speakers! (Swoons)
Side note: I low key wish solid body electric arch lutes where more of a thing.
Beautiful instrument, both in its appearance and its warm, rich tone with that resonance!
I love to see young people like you getting into old music - medieval, baroque and so on!
Not just that, but young people *playing* old instruments like the lute! Great to see!
Keep up the great work!
This instrument is just incredible, and this resonation make me speetchless
I don't know much about the lute but I love and know a lot of music. I'm a big fan of guitar and I can tell that this lute is a beautiful instrument with a lovely sound. And the reason I want to comment is because I appreciate your passion. The love is pouring out of you as you play.
Wow that built-in reverb is just mind-blowing... so cool!
Such a beautiful instrument in both sound and appearance. The resonance and volume is just uncanny. Kudos to Mr. Moreno.
Wow, Biber's passacaglia, once played on a lute, sounds like the original 'Feeling Good' bass rhythm.
Absolutely awesome instrument! Sounds phenomenal!
I was at True Tone music in Santa Monica once trying out a small amp and the room is a tall, squared rectangle with a ton of guitars on the wall and all of the guitar strings would resonate sympathetically and it was the best reverb I’ve ever heard. I want to record in a room like that.
Utterly beautiful instrument, showcasing the master craftsmanship involved in its creation.
Best sounding plucked string instrument I've ever heard, and it's not close. Wow!
Such a beautiful sound and as always a perfect played from you 🥰
Wow, if I heard a recording of this lute I never would've guessed the reverb is due to sympathetic vibrations, I would've thought it was recorded in a large reverberant hall or something.
Dayum, that is a cool sound with all the resonation.
Stunningly beautiful! The instrument, your playing, and the joy on your face while playing. I've seen many play proficiently, but joylessly. Watching you is like watching a child on Christmas morning!
Wonderful sound. My father used to play guitar, a Portuguese guitar, but this instrument is beautiful with its rounded form.
It is incredibly beautiful and it sounds amazing! What a wonderful instrument! You have a treasure. Thank you for the video. I’m glad it arrived safely. Not surprised at the shipping and custom costs and agree it was well worth it.
I can't comprehend the beauty in this sound. I wish I could play an instrument of such quality and magnificence.
Just beautiful the way the strings resonate. Beautifully played. Well done Brandon👏👏👏
What a stunning instrument. I want one! Roll on 400k!
I really enjoyed the classical sound it makes.
Totally love your demonstration that sympathetic resonance...reverb natural. When you muted the bass strings it dampened the reverb natural but still was there. This volume increase is FANTASTIC.
"Not the Biber you're thinking" actually that's exactly the Biber I was thinking of. Amazing composer. And yes that really does work well on archlute! What a glorious instrument.
I really, really like this a lot. Beautiful instrument, lovely stuff indeed. Please do more pieces with it. This is the first of you videos I've seen/heard. Subscribed. Thank you for this. The entire video is a bit of food for my soul. Well done. Cheers!🙏🙂
There it is!! What a sound, José Miguel is an amazing luthier, is it Madagascar/Coral bowl and Spruce top? That's what the sound color suggests to my ear. Enjoy it and let us enjoy your lute playing so much! 😊😊
Thank you! I'm happy with it:) Definitely a spruce top but since the bowl is repurposed from an oud, José didn't know the species of the wood.
Just by eye it looks like walnut and quilted maple!
