    Excellent advice, Shaun. I've observed this a lot, particularly in the last year. Thousands of Pro Edgeguard broadcast spreaders manufactured by Scotts had a serious defect. The spreading wheel is essentially blocked by the tires, which results in excessive amounts of fertilizer falling below the spreader and very little outside the tire's radius.

    Very true Shaun, great tips.
    I have noticed a small strip of my own grass which has gone brown on the edges where the path is.
    I think I may have accidentally had some overspray from a weed killer (was always a risk) but is there any thing I can do to help bring it back? I was thinking of using a garden fork and dig some holes (basically aerate the area) and then water the edges deeply? I’m not sure it’s completely burnt but may have suffered some damage which is spoiling the look somewhat. Maybe granular fertiliser or liquid?

      Hi definitely do not add any more Fertiliser but 100% to the forking and watering and see how it looks in about 2 or 3 weeks.. If zero improvement then you'll need to reseed sadly

      To begin, overwater the soil and remove some of the extra fertilizer by flushing it out. Gypsum can help sodic soils by replacing the sodium with calcium. Excessive salt in soils can be removed using gypsum, and calcium deficiency is a typical problem. Nitrogen and calcium make up more than half of all the nutrients that plants consume. Humic acid will chelate some of the nutrients and assist the grass in using the excess nitrogen.

    Yeah I’ve done this with the last bit of my lawn where it had a lot of moss. What’s the best approach Shaun? Leave , scarify in a few months , overseed?

      Hi Julie, it will ease off in a few weeks as the fertiliser gets used up.

    My hand rotary spreader isn’t working. I get a loud clacking sound and lots of resistance when I turn the handle. So I’m going to take it apart and examine and clean the gears inside. Want to put some feed down for the rest of the summer, then again in Autumn.

      It may wlel just need cleaning.. Open the hole to maximum, get the hosepipe down inside.. And also from underneath.. An old toothbrush will help. I'll do a little video later today and upload it.. Watch out for it

      @@LawnRight Thank you. Mine has a miracle grow sticker on it. I undid the three screws on the bottom. The handle turns a gear cog which drives a horizontal shaft. This then drives a conical gear to get horizontal rotation of the spreader wheel. The clacking sound was due to the horizontal shaft cog separating from the handle cog. It’s only plastic so I added a dab of silicone grease, thenI replaced the screws and tightened them up. So far the noise has gone and I can turn the handle again.

    Hi, im new to this. So to achieve lush green, i should invest in nitrogen?

    • @LawnRight
      @LawnRight  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi that's one route, yes and will help but there's more to it
      . If the lawn is thatchy it would need scarifying.. Alos regular mowing not too short will also help
