My mentality fluctuates based on what sort of condition the starter car was in. If everything is still in great condition, and it's all original, yeah don't mess with it too much. But if the car you're starting with is a rusted out husk that hardly resembles a car anymore, go nuts. Anything you would do to it at that point would improve it. Plan on buying a 60s continental eventual and restoring it with batteries and electric motors. Would perfectly suit the character of the car and make it fast as hell.
This is a car you could see placed in a F&F movie. I wouldn't be so quick to hate on it. They have a wide variety of stuff all throughout their films. But either way, beautiful beautiful car
I had a 66 Hertz Shelby with the original top loader and hipo 289 with the original Cobra intake and Ford four barrel. Unfortunately I had to sell it in 1994 for only 12,000 due to my Wife getting pregnant with my first Daughter, It was all re-done with black paint and gold stripes( spent over 12,000). I loved that car like you cant believe. My Daughters that are now in their mid 20's said they would look for it and buy it for me, but I told them (one)they would not be able to find it(two) if they do find it the owner will not sell(three) he will want a lot for it. They said they don't care and Till this day they are looking for it...This car reminds me of my little 66 Shelby Hertz what an awesome built.
My heart goes out to you brother. I sold my first car, 64.5 coupe, when my son was born. I finally got an 05 gt when I turned 50, great wife pushed for it. I’m better now, midlife crisis… not even a consideration 😇
Inspired. I have a '65 T-code fastback just about to go under the knife; V8 (302), Holley EFI, T5, 3.55 but keeping it old school. Can't wait to get it done!
I was always going to build a 1965-66 fastback Mustang. I even bought some Mini Lite wheels and tons of magazines and books. The Avis rental car company had some 1965-66 Ford Mustang fastbacks made up for their rental fleet back then. They were the 271hp 289ci V8 with a C-4 automatic and they were Black with a gold strip down the center of the car.
This is 1 of my favourite, maybe the best I've seen on this channel.. not because of the model as I'm no mustang fan but just the style and execution of build! 🙏
Who else skipped ahead to see if it had an LS in it? 🤣 Whew! Fantastic car, just love it. Real tires, no chrome dubs...just perfect. Had a primer gray 302 powered'66 coupe back in the '80s that I still miss. Had fender flares, the same Shelby front valance, etc.
I own a 2020 GT 350 myself, but there is absolutely nothing like a 65. Flashback Mustang! As far as I’m Concerned, that’s the most beautiful card that has ever been created, and what you did to this 65, turned it into an absolute dreamboat! Congratulations, my friend! You have got probably one of the most beautiful Mustang I’ve ever seen, and she truly has a heart and soul! You’re one lucky individual and congratulations my friend! Love from North Carolina!!!❤🫵👊😁
I have to say that is one of the sickest mustangs I have ever seen ! I am a mustang guy through and through, I have had 3 mustang gt's in my life and they are the best looking and sounding cars ever. You have a beautiful car have fun with it. Looking forward to seeing another video with that bad boy.
That’s my kind of car right there. Love it, and the 600 miles is just getting it shaken down. Love the choices in power and trans as well as about everything else. What a great driver/fun car
I understand the color hunt regarding replicating the original magnesium torq thrust! You almost almost had it! The color looks spot on BUT it needs to be absolutely matte with no gloss!!!
Everytime I see a 65/66 Fastback on this channel I get so excited, hope to meet you with my car someday. If you come to Portland area for another 65 Fastback feature let me know!
Wow that is stunning. If it was a 67 it would be my dream car. I will own a 67 mustang one day but I would put an LS in it as it would be so reliable. I have been wanting a 67 mustang since I was a teenager. My dream is to buy one in California drive it down route 66 and ship it to England and then get building.
Great car!!..Those old Vintage cars really have a lot of character. I like the mods that he made. They are very tasteful and complements the car very well..Love it..👍🏽🏁
@@AutotopiaLA A while back, there was a GT40 kit car. Seemed real clean for what it was and nicely moded. Turned out that the whole video was a 13 or so minute advertisement for a used kit car. So I guess this is a cool used car advertisement channel is and I lost interest.
Hi LOVVVEEEE your channel and subscribe and wait with absolute eager enthusiasm for every new video!! Can you let ryan know that an air filter with side draft intake only, is actually is better than a filter with side draft intake and top down intake as the two air paths fight and contradict each other at low to midrange rpm, and throttle response and air/fuel atomization is better with the side draft only air filter....
I absolutely love this awesome car. One thing Ryan said that I slightly disagree with is the SMB sound vs a Coyote. I've owned a 5.0 SMF Fox body. I think it sounds very much like my current 4.6 2v, 4.6 3v and 2012 Coyote Mustangs. Some how Ford kept that distinct sound until the Flat Crank.
Love the car. I've done this swap twice. lots of space if you trim shock towers, old hot rodders trick. But storker motor works with out that. modern driveline. quick time bellhouing with the chevy 3/8th pressure plate bolts and bruce will had pins to flywheel for reduce sheer when running up to 600hp. The JBA shorty headers, fit better than anyone else, allow for original z-bar with heim joint for smooth clutch access and no cable or hydraulic, and easy clearnance. Mike Maier makes a great steering box. maybe you used his. 1st car was 408ci and 2nd car was Kraft Racing 427 from Dart sportsman block. wanted to send you video or picture but didnt see a way to do
A 3/4" taller tire on the rear would keep him out of the rev limiter as quick in the lower gears, and add circumference for traction and comfort. The width part is obvious, but he can detail his final gearing with tire height and benefit greatly, and more cost effective, than messing with gears.
For me “period correct” style looks so much better than all the fast & furious restomod stuff. It’s also timeless. Gorgeous car.
I like both approaches. This is a great build
@@AutotopiaLA Agreed. All approaches are pretty exciting really. The end result should be a massive smile

Pro touring is look for me , agree fast & furious/ ring brothers/ kindig, nah over top

It’s definitely a great build
Check out the episodes with Dave’s Mustangs

Do you recall the serial number? Should be 1xxx
Thought all the Hertz cars were automatics?
Freind had a black/gold one late 80s he dailied back then. Dig them 1st gen stangs
I just bought a 65 with the 200 i6 and 3 speed manual .. Needs work, but is drivable, after I get the brakes done this week.
Absolutely nailed the look! It’s simple yet all of the details were addressed perfectly. Badass car.
Love the old school look. This is the route I'm going on my fastback.
I love raw cars like that . Awesome
Take a shot every time he says “bitchin.” 🤣🤣🤣
Beautiful ride and the plate says it all.
Lol! The plate is the warning 😎
im a big fan of the old school mustangs, but my absolute favorite is the 65 fast back. they really got it right.
I AGREE WITH YOU OLDER CARS ARE BETTER AT PUTTING SMILE ON YOUR FACE WHEN THEY ARE DONE RIGHT
Inspired. I have a '65 T-code fastback just about to go under the knife; V8 (302), Holley EFI, T5, 3.55 but keeping it old school. Can't wait to get it done!
Absolutely love this car. Drive the wheels off of it, rebuild and repeat. I love drivers period
if I "drove the wheels off," I'd get some new aluminum ones instead of black.
This is one of those perfectly done driver builds, nice nice nice! 👍👍👍

The engine in this car sounds a million times better than a modern day coyote !
No question
@@AutotopiaLA Didnt catch the size of this engine?

That is one badass Mustang. Love everything about it. Original paint and all. Sounds just so nice. Look forward to seeing more. Be safe and stay well.

Good lookin' Mustang
Has a great story with it
Sounds amazing
This is perfect love the rawness of the GT350R N/A high revving Ford manual transmission
Dave's white & Ryan's black are one of the best soundmachines I'v seen on this channel . Great to watch ! Thanks.
Ok first of all, that paint is gorgeous and that sound is amazing. What a beautiful car
Got to meet some Shift Sector guys at Harris Ranch a few years ago .. Good Ass People !!
No frills just thrills.

The smiles per mile looked super high on this one Shaun, even on the second drive...that says it all right there!
Awesome Build!!
Nothing like driving a old-school muscle car
No stripes required. That car is just sweet. I bought my dream car, 05 GT, black, no stripes, just genuine 😎
Update? How do you like it so far? Any gripes?

love this build. the wheel/tire combo is perfect, nailed it! i think it would look cool with a white stripe, like the 350r.
to me the wheel/tire/stance make any car and this is spot on.
Great vid!!!!
Well here's another one for my fantasy garage collection
What a great build.
those side scoops make this Mustang really badass.
Now that is a badass car! It’s a shame it’s not in my garage.
I really love your appreciation and fashion in presenting the different modified muscle cars most especially mustang. Keep safe 👍
Gorgeous fastback 😰 💯
Definitely
Great 65 Mustang build checks all the right boxes 😀👍👍
Love it when you do classic mustang vids!
17:57 that exhaust note is just perfect
Thé man makes cars stand out great job 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
GREAT VID I LOVE THE SMALL BLOCK STROKER, THAT THE WAY I WOULD GO ALSO
Agree, esp after having a 460 stang. Those shock towers limit ya
Yep ! Encore une bombe 🤘

Oh HELL yeah!
Very cool car. Sounds great
Other than being obnoxiously loud, it's a great package. Nice mild restomod, without going crazy.
I love it. What a cool looking fast driving car.
Awesome car!
I love the car I have 2012 boss 302 it doesn't sound that good .I love the old school sound it put a smile on my face also .
Damn Shawn. Very cool car, very cool guest. Another incredible episode. Thank you.
Those Yokohama A052's putting in work! 🤟
Thanks bud rad ride ❤️😁👍
That ammo box speaker is awesome gonna have to look into one for my truck I also don't want to take out the stock radio
Sounds amazing!
Perfection for those that actually want to drive the car and not be a garage queen and the stance is perfection, IMO. 👌
Agree. Didnt let new paint stop me from driving old iron
I dont understand the paranoia thing
Top Notch. Makes the sounds, got the looks. Sick build.
Fuel inject it and it’s perfect. The exhaust note gave me goosebumps, especially when Ryan rowed the gears. Nicely done.

Awesome Stang
Very good build. Looks great, outside and inside. The sound of the engine is amazing.
I dynod that car in Idaho with the guy he got it from Walt is a inline 6 guy build a few old ford 200s that make big power. Cool to see the car now.
Really sounds great!! Makes me miss the one i had at the end of high school
FWIW the Shelby quick steer kit works well with the cyl steering box
This is so damn cool! I'm building a '64.5 coupe right now, myself.
