I’m so jealous that you get to listen to this masterpiece for the first time
right? This song never gets old. Saw them live and they closed with this song, fucking amazing!!
What I would give for a factory reset to hear this for the first time again.
I heard this for the first time a year ago and I was in awe at how amazing it was
Don’t think it was his first time, just pretended for the reaction
I would pay copious amounts of money to hear everlong for the first time again
"It has like an old high school movie rock song sound"
I've never felt more like I'm in my 40s in my life.
Lol! Ikr!
I’m 36, it hit me too 😂
@@Lurch685 LFR Jojo out here unknowingly roasting us older folks with kindness. You wanna hug him and knock him upside the head at the same time.
@@speakstheobvious5769 hahahahahah! Hey! He means well and luckily he’s branching out and experiencing good music! I’m from the year ‘98 but for some reason this song takes me back to a time I didn’t experience- not sure if that makes sense
@@Diana-zl3ue I could hear this song being played in a movie like "American Pie" which came out in '99. 1999 just feels like a couple years ago to me. As you get older, the years pass by faster and faster. I seriously have no idea what happened in the past four years. It was just a blip in my life.
Everlong is not "A" love song, it's "THE" lovesong
To me 'The lovesong' is 'All flowers in time (bend towards the sun)' by Jeff Buckley and Liz Fraser, but 'Everlong' is in my top 3 perfect pop-rock sounding songs besides 'Interstate Love Song' and 'Last Goodbye' :)
So true.
It’s a song about Dave’s divorce actually lol
@@BoxOfCurryos *Grohl said it was about his relationship with one of the girls from Veruca Salt.*
@Toasty_Fluff that’s what I think too
Kurt must be so proud of Dave for everything he’s accomplished since Kurt’s passing🥺❤️🥰
Never thought about this. Dang it hurts.
and now taylor
Mann that comment hits. Him losing Kurt and Taylor. Unbelievable how they are still making sick music together. I know it's gotta be in honor of them ❤
Even tho its pretty sad, David and Kurt really didnt get along, because David actually had a family that loved him and supported his dream. On the other hand Taylor's passing hit David like a truck, unlike Kurt's, u could see in his behavior that kurts passing didnt really affect him.

Agreed
Ugh
YEAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
Facts!
Ever!
The acoustic version of this song would change your life
The original from the Howard Stern show..... Show Stopper, to this day. Dave didn't know if he could pull it off.
When I think of Everlong, I think of the acoustic version
Exactly
Look up Rick Astley's version as that was a great version

Greatest American Rock drummer ever, IMO. I have to qualify that w/ "American" bc nobody is touching John Bonham or Neal Pert. But what makes Dave such a great rock drummer is how he can hit as hard as he hits and still keep perfect time.
I think we turned him into a metalhead with that intro 😂
lol metalhead foo fighters lol
@@josephbenson4444 foo fighters isn't metal, he has listened to metal and likes it so his intro is a metal lick

@@harryshield4335 I think he was talking abt the intro like in the very beginning of the video how he has his guitar💀
If you listen carefully do the guitar riffs on the “do do do do dododo” you can actually hear his girlfriend at the time singing. He called her on the phone and she sang on the phone and they recorded the phone call and put her vocals in the song.
Wow! I didn’t know that. I thought that Dave Recorded himself on the phone whispering a love letter, a technical manual, and a story about a studio tech’s father. When do you hear Jennifer (his ex wife) saying that? I wanna try to catch it :)
@@heatherfarmerr look up Rick Beato what makes this song great. He breaks down the entire mix and really explains it in great detail
@@heatherfarmerr it was Louise post (his girlfriend) not Jennifer, you hear her during pre chorus. It is Dave does reading a letter plus a recipe and random talking that is distorted in the part of the song that gets quiet again.
@@doofinator4285 I will have to. This whole time I never caught that. I thought he wrote the song bc he was getting a divorce to Jennifer. I could be wrong tho. Still have to do my research
@@heatherfarmerr Louise revealed this herself a couple weeks ago on the Veruca Salt Facebook page with a link to a video with her vocals isolated. Though I guess people knew this years ago based on how old some of the comments are on that video.

And after you do that, you should watch this very special cover of the song ua-cam.com/video/JozAmXo2bDE/v-deo.html to see how rock brings people together!
I thought Foo Fighters was for Kung Foo Fighters...
I think in an interview or tv special, the reason for the name Foo Fighters was to have an incognito name to start another musical career because he didn't want people to associate him as soon as they heard the music.

Rip Taylor Hawkins. He was my favorite drummer right with Dave. Love seeing Taylor drum this live.
Not every love song has to be slow and sappy. This one is a love song and lit. The lead singer plays drums on this track. His name is Dave Grohl. He’s into UFOs and that’s why the band’s named Foo Fighters which comes from a WW II term for UFOs. The song was about the break up of his first marriage.
Yeah, a lot people but what a lot of non rockers dont understand was that rock's orgins was litterally about love and drugs.
This was my wedding song.
That’s awesome!
Cool
Nice💯

There is a simple, but very profound line in these lyrics that a lot of people, including me, is very in love with. "Breathe out, so I can breathe you in." That is something that hits when you remember that moment of being in love with someone, & being so close with them physically, that it is so surreal, & makes life worth living, at that moment.....Anyway...& the rest of the song is built onto that meaning for me. Because, we only get that pleasure for a moment. And we want to hang onto it, but it passes on, like so many other cherished moments.......*must_not_cry...* I'm so lonely now.......
It's just moments of loneliness, just like those are moments of love. Life has moments of both, and neither lasts forever. Stay strong and be grateful for those who show you love in your life in any capacity. I hope you find someone who can give you that feeling again. Life's a cruel mistress sometimes but it doesn't give us anything we can't handle.
Dave Grohl said he impulsively named his solo project 'Foo Fighters' which was a silly term for UFO's... Grohl is known to obsess about aliens😂 He was associated w/ 'X-Files' series & movie.
He wrote 'Everlong' about his then -gf Louise Post, lead singer of the band Veruca Salt.
Shit I forgot about veruca salt 🤙
The word the feel their music inspires that you're looking for is probably "garage band", and yes, they have that feel. By the way, Foo Fighters is a term from WWII. Pilots would call UFOs and lights in the sky "foo fighters". Also, the lead singer, David Grohl used to drum for Nirvana.
When the airforce saw a u.f.o they called them foo fighters
That’s a great piece of info, I had no idea and wondered where the name came from. 💜
The drums on this were always my favorite part. They go hard. They had this song in Rock Band back in the day.
Nothing beats listening to everlong for the first time

Dave Grohl is the coolest guy in rock and roll who is not a member of The Rolling Stones.
"this drummer's going crazy" Yes he is, man, yes he is. R.I.P. Taylor Hawkins
Your so right about that nostalgic high school feeling
I'm glad you're listening to more Foo Fighters. They're legendary.
I see a successful young man keep on keepin on
Yes! More Foo Fighters!!
Dave Grohl (Frontman of the Foo Fighters, and previously drummer for Nirvana) said that for this song he literally just wrote down what he felt and made a song out of it. I remembered this when you said that it sounded like a conversation.
Fun Fact: On this track, one of the guitars and the drums are both played by Dave
I totally get what you're saying about that nostalgic feeling. I'm in my 20s too and I love this song!
I think you'd like their songs Walk, Learning To Fly, Times Like These
Jojo,
I think you're interpretation and the feelings that this song evoked in you are similar to a lot of us. This song came out like 25 years ago when I was a 16 year old in high school. That nostalgic feeding you speak of...well it really is that for me. My very best friend and I always said that this was our song because we couldn't go anywhere and not hear it being played over the radio or a loudspeaker. I'm sure somebody's already recommended but definitely check out the acoustic version of this, it'll break your heart a little bit and give your chills but it's absolutely worth the listen.
one of the best songs of all time broo
I don't know why but that pause and return hits you in the tear ducts.
My favorite song by Foo Fighters
Love this song, me and my wife had this song as our first dance at our wedding, romantic songs can still rock hard!
Fun fact: this is not a love song its about loving somebody physically and spiritually, but when you sing along with then its perfect harmony🙂
I love what you say at the end because only your generation going through high school graduating specifically during the beginning of the pandemic is some thing that none of us will ever be able to relate to and I can never have thought of your interpretation for music for the rest of your life songs are still going to lead back so that important time of your life where everything was just flipped upside down. This was very empowering for me to hear as a 38-year-old married woman with no kids. You’re ahead of your age . I’m glad it was Dave Grohl because he can always make a person think. Look up some of his interviews on UA-cam he is a trip. Sending love to you and yours from Orlando Florida
They performed this song for David Letterman's final show, in black tie. It kind of summed everything up perfectly.
fun fact: in the making of the second ff album, dave Grohl, the singer, re-recorded the drum parts for most of the songs including this one. so dave grohl not only sang, played guitar here but he also played drums in these song and some other in the album
I love how you just sat it silence and had no words after it ended. It shows just how awesome this song is and forever will be!
the drums on the song were recorded by dave grohl, the frontman and lead singer, despite being their drummer, the late taylor hawkins (rest in peace) didn’t record the drums on the song as he joined after this album. also the “do do do do do do do” riff actually includes backup vocals from dave grohls then girlfriend and front woman of veruca salt, louise post. there are so many interesting things about this song and just the foo fighters in general.
Taylor Hawkins is a great drummer. i have one of his sticks that i caught at a foos show years ago. i remember hearing this song for the first time. its so good
It’s not Taylor Hawkins
@@loganhayne6422 well he plays Daves writing very well
Who you hear drumming on the album is Dave. Dave didn't like how the original drummer he had for the album played, so Dave re-did all the drum tracks himself.

monkey wrench is another great foo fighters song
Hell yeah, And Hero. Takes me back
“Foo fighter” was a term first coined by the United States Air Force during World War II. It referred to strange phenomena or unidentified flying objects in the sky before it was replaced by the acronym “UFO.” Grohl revealed that when he was first recording songs for the band, he was in the midst of a UFO phase.
You should really look at the first foo fighters album man. I'd especially recommend This is a Call, Alone + Easy Target, Watershed, and Exhausted

They gave so many great songs💕
The entire song list of their album wasting light is immaculate, a series of you watching that would make my year
All my life, learn to fly, rope, monkey wrench,... Keep watching them
The singer, guitarist and drummer, Dave Grohl also drummed for nirvana the band that made "smells like teen spirit"

Best of You, is another great Foo Fighters song. You gotta see Dave Grohl play both, drums and guitar.
Great line "the only thing i'll ever ask of you, you gotta promise not to stop when I say when".
I think my favorite observation about this song you made is the way it sounds like a conversation. I've listened to this song a million times and just feel it at this point, but you're totally right. This song has a back and forth to it I somehhow never picked up on.

You should react to the killers “when you were young” it has a unique sound and it has a powerful meaning behind it
The term “foo fighter” was coined by American fighter pilot in WW2 when a squadron of allied planes were flying missions over German held areas (I believe it was over Belgium when the term was created). The pilots encountered some sort of unidentified crafts (UFOs) that looked nothing like enemy planes or even allied planes at that time and the crafts were too fast for them to even attempt to follow. After the mission, no one knew what to call the unidentified aircrafts they had seen earlier, so an American pilot used a silly phrase that didn’t have a meaning from an old childrens’ book from his youth (“foo fighter”) and used that as a name for what they had all seen.
In 2010, Dave Grohl explained to Clash magazine why he chose to name the band “Foo Fighters”.
- "Around the time that I recorded the first FF tape (that became the first record), I was reading a lot of books on UFO's. Not only is it a fascinating subject, but there's a treasure trove of band names in those UFO books!" he said.
"So, since I had recorded the first record by myself, playing all the instruments, but I wanted people to think that it was a group, I figured that FOO FIGHTERS (WW2 term for UFO's) might lead people to believe that it was more than just one guy. Silly, huh?"
Foofighter have alot of good music like best of you, learning to fly,a classic i love is times like these is a foo fighter staple all my life the guitarist palm mute and hard crunching guitar rifts

Before you start reacting to more music, make sure to
1.Never pause during a solo
2.Never start a song without earphones on first
3.After pausing rewind by 10 seconds then press play
4. Try and focus on a single instrument(Bass,Drums,Rythm Guitar, etc.) and how it is being played along with the others. It will develop your musical ear and give you a sense of appreciation for what you listen to.

Fun fact dave grohl (the singer) did the drumming, guitar, and a bass line for this song. He basically did it himself.
The thing that opened my ears most to music was learning to play guitar. It opened me up to appreciate genres I hadn't looked at up close before. Learning to play a song really opens up the love of it. Failing to learn a song fills me with so much respect for musicians and what they do. It is nice to see your reaction to this and hear you talk about how it affected you with having recently graduated. I remember listening to this song in when I was in junior high. I remember talking to my friends about it in band class and the album having recently released (I still prefered their first album at the time =P). I've since stopped playing the trumpet, but I picked up the guitar not long after the album came out and this is one of those songs that if I start playing it now even kids will get an inquisitive look on their face and ask "Is that the Foo Fighters?"
Don't forget to come back to this song every now and then. As you get older and your life goes on the words of the song will stay the same, but what they mean to you will change. Nothing will stay that real forever, it can never be as good again, as good it was that first time, so, don't say when, and if you find somebody who knows not to stop when you say it, you'll have found the right one. Grab that one tightly, breathe them in as deeply as you can, and waste away with them.
Keep looking, there's so many other songs out there that will touch you in a way you couldn't imagine that will stay with you forever. As one singer put it;
"Funny the way it is, not right or wrong
