You could've only removed the oil filter housing which is held in with a 30mm nut on the bottom to achieve the same.

You are correct and changed the oil filter housing gasket. 36 mm nut?

@@MechAdventures Very common source of oil leaks in these cars, but an easy fix. Other than that my high mileage C32 consumes far less oil than the VQ35/37s on other cars I own or have owned.
