Back in 2010 the Army recruitment office (San Diego) lost my enlistment packet when they conjoined with another recruiting office. When I confronted them about it the NCOIC said "we don't like to say we lost things in the Army, we just misplaced it." They never found it.
Seven years later when I tried to enlist again in Dallas those motherfuckers lost my Social Security card when I handed it to them to make a copy of it.
The moral of the story is, the Army makes mistakes all the time. Obviously, because I still ended up joining.
They don't make mistakes. They just fail to do things properly sometimes.

My grandpa joined the Airforce to avoid being drafted by the Army during the Korean War. He said he was a better lover than a fighter.
The Air Forcd hasn't been hard-core since WW2. When they were part of the Army and just one of their one of their 17 Air Forces had higher casualty rates than the Marine Corps
My uncle joined the Navy so he wouldn't see combat and they made him a forward gunner on a swift boat.
@Miguel DelaCruz The military can be funny that way. At least your uncle got some cool stories. My aviation mentor was trying to draft dodge to Canada and got stopped because he was "too high". Skip a few years and he's flying a Loach with the 1sr Air Cav and been shot down around seven times. Retired after 25 years as a LTC in 1993.
I respect all branches. My great grandfather was a soldier. He never told me what branch he was…nor ever talked about his experience but I can tell it made him sad. So respect to your grandpa cause no one should do the things they do tbh.
He was prolly gay
It's pretty simple really. Draftees are in a large group and each service takes as many as they want. I still remember when I took the oath, immediately after, a lieutenant stepped forward and called a list of names. He then said " due to the decline in enlistment in the United States Marine Corps, the individuals named are hereby sent to the United States Marine Corps at Parris Island recruit depot ". The look on their faces was priceless.
Thanks for this
And this is why, if they ever reinstate the draft and you got a feeling your number is gonna come up, get down and enlist in whatever service you want to serve in, before good old Uncle Sam picks it for you.

That's outstanding! My father's era and thank God he introduced me to the music of the Vietnam era! As with far too many Vietnam veterans, he passed far too early. His grandfather (my great) was in his early 90s when he had to bury his 54 y/o grandson after finally losing his battle with Leukemia. He did two rotations, with only the first being obligatory. For the most part, all the men in the family make it to at least 90, and no history of cancer in any.
Sorry for that tangent.
I have a playlist dedicated in his memory and it never fails to cause me to feel blissful, nostalgic, and some bereavement all together at once. Those of you that have also lost one of their cherished relationships from that era, I'm confident that you either have felt that too, or something pretty damn close. Funny. Though as a current AF member, I feel compelled to point out that they've upped the enlistment age to 39.
Back in the day you didn’t just stroll into the Air Force recruiter office, you had to make an appt so no chance with them. I remember going to Korea for the first time and someone pointed out the AF “barracks”. I said that’s not a freakin hotel???? The irony is that everyone I’ve spoken to in the AF hates it. Not because of the job but because of the lack of respect they receive from other branches. I remember being down range with some AF cats and as soon as the other branches walked into the gym, especially the Marines , they were out. It was funny
You sound funny! My father was a soldier. When I wanted to follow his steps he told me hell no. Best decision ever! As a proud member of the AF, sure, we’ve all had some bad days but I’d never say I hate it and I’m at 27 years in. Yeah, we spend more money on the upkeep of our facilities so I’d agree. AF bases look better but have you seen the outlet mall on Fort Bliss? No AF base can top that! As far as running is out of any gym, that must have been a few rookies. I’ve been deployed to AF bases and Army (Arifjan and Camp Taji). We didn’t run. If anything, we all became friends and helped each other out.
