      @@dr.paulinemoyaert Would you mind explaining the rest of mental illness too? Also the common drugs that would be used on them. I found it the way you talk about the mechanism is so meticulous.

      @@mchan3649 Thank you so much. I'll keep it in mind, I'm currently more focused on gynecology/oncology. Neurology is very interesting too though, so it might come up in the future! Thanks for your suggestion.

    My husband has Alzheimer & he is on Admenta 10mg,Rivamer 3 for the last 3 yrs When told to Dr to change prescription he says there r no medicines other than this What if this medicines r stopped since they r not responding but giving side effects & disease is progressive .Pls guide

      Hi, first of all, I don't know your husband so it's difficult for me to give medical advice. I can tell you that treatment is often discontinued if the person shows serious side effects. As I said in the video, it won't change the progression of the disease, but his memory problems can get a little worse when he quits his drugs. It's weighing the pros and cons, if the side effects are worse than the improvement in memory, I think you should talk to your doctor about discontinuing the drugs. I hope this helps. (One last thing, maybe also talk to your doctor about treating the side effects, some side effects can easily be treated with medication)

    Hi My father has FTD Dementia .... so tell me if there is any treatment.

    • @dr.paulinemoyaert
      @dr.paulinemoyaert  2 роки тому

      There's currently no cure or specific treatment for FTD. Drugs used to treat Alzheimer's disease don't seem to be helpful for people with FTD, and some may even worsen the symptoms. Certain medications - such as antidepressants and antipsychotics - can help manage the symptoms.
      Example of antidepressants: Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) - such as citalopram (Celexa), paroxetine (Paxil) or sertraline (Zoloft)
      Example of antipsychotics: olanzapine (Zyprexa) or quetiapine (Seroquel)
      Hope this helps.

    Thank you for making this video. Is it useful for an Alzheimer’s patient to stay on a drug like donepezil long-term, such as longer than six or seven years?

    • @dr.paulinemoyaert
      @dr.paulinemoyaert  2 роки тому +1

      Yes. I wouldn't discontinue the drugs, unless there are serious side effects. We know that the drugs are most effective in the early stages, but still, some patients may still benefit from the therapy after 6 or 7 years. Hope this helps.

      Short answer: You won't experience any benefit from it, but you will experience the side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, sweating, headache, and dizziness.

    The brain is a very primitive and flawed organ, we only think it's "sophisticated/complex" because we don't understand it, which proves how primitive the brain is.
