  • In this epic how to make project we will cover some basic blacksmithing fundamentas. In the video I go into great detail on how to make this 14th century candle stick holder. We will be looking at basic forging, stock estimation and fire-welding. The piece is based on a task used by Hereford school of blacksmithing and is a great why to to build your skills. It also works quite well as a test and with a time limit and working to perimeters.
I will also be announcing a challenge in the second half of the video for you to have a go at and maybe even submit an entry.
    Challenger!

Looks like a lot of fun! I'm in brother thanks for inviting me :-) 20 mins seems deceptively easy lol especially when you're working to tight specs for sure.. Good luck to my fellow competitors

Dan's attempt was so British. Step 1 - put steel in fire.... Step 2 - good sip of tea.... Step 3 - complete task
I'll have a go for sure. It'll have to be with the gas forge due to Australia's very rigid fire bans at the moment, but I'll definitely have a go. I expect I'll be WELL down the bottom of the leaderboard, as my forging style is built on the rule of "slow is smooth, and smooth is fast". But I'm interested to see how it turns out!

I'd need a begginers category as so far I've only made tongs........ and I'd need to make some more tongs to make this candle holder......... and finish re building my forge....... I think I'll aim for an hour and claim bonus points for any seconds I get under that time!! 😂
It does sound like it will be a fun competition, good luck everyone 👍👍

И ещё. Мой тебе совет. Сделай наковальню на пару дюймов повыше. Тебе будет легче работать. А то ты постоянно в наклоне...

But I'll definitely be making some of these just for fun and use. One question, how did you drive it into the wood? did you pre-drill a hole and then just stick it in as hard as you could or was there hammering involved?
