As always, your self-rated less than perfect work continues to inspire! Wish the birds that hang around my smithy were as pretty as the beggars that hang around yours!
I get all sorts of birds visiting for a handout. Some are very pretty but their routine / incessant chirping can get old quick. Glad you like this candle stick holder. Thanks.
Don't short Change yourself too much! Judging by your own comments you learned something and we out here watching definitely learned something thank you for sharing!
I'm always learning something. I've said it before and will say it again, doing these videos has made me a better blacksmith. I'd rarely try stuff like this and would just stick to my tool making if it wasn't for UA-cam. Of course I don't like this piece too well but it's taught me a simple lesson (which I'm sure to forget new time I do this and need to relearn). Thanks.
As I mentioned, I wasn't thrilled with the end product but I was sure this would lead to others like yourself making better candle stick holders. Thanks for watching.
Cool candle stick holder, those birds are not anything I have ever seen, love to see your birds in flight. I have a friend that takes pics with a high speed camera and the images of local birds in flight are fascinating. Thank you for all you do.
It's really good for an initial attempt, and I think someone could take this idea several different ways. The base could be worked into some sort of leaf shape, and I'm sure others would have different, interesting ideas. It might be easier to work this from a piece of square stock (if someone were going to make several of them), but when inspiration strikes, you have to use what you have on hand. You are a constant source of fantastic ideas; thank you for sharing.
The leaf idea is perfect. There are folks out there, maybe like yourself, who could take this to the next level and really make something interesting. I'll keep trying... Thanks.
Great project. I find your videos very pleasant to watch. No big noises, very peaceful. When I work, I work in slow motion because, I am retired and the last thing I need to do is turn my hobby into a business. I like your methodical approach to your work, patience is truly a virtue. Thanks for the video. BZ.
You make a great point - trying not to turn enjoyment into work. That's partly why I kept my setup very simple even after making this a job and doing it for so many years. Of course I try to get some stuff done in short order but I try to work quickly though never be in a rush, if that makes sense. Thanks.
I seem to enjoy making things from one piece. This didn't turn out great but it works. I think I should try something like a miner's candle holder. Thanks Sonny.
I thin it came out really nice! the base had a kinda leafy look without being a bad chunky mimic of a leaf, and the candle part and the handle part were both pretty graceful. I guess if you think it didn't come out great, then you could probably improve it, but I like it a lot. just realized that I'm drowning out hammering outside by listening to hammering inside-there's a crew next door fixing my neighbor's roof, which blew off in a typhoon in September.
The birds made this video but they also drive me nuts at times with their incessant chirping for food. When I'm tapping away on my anvil they know to come... Candle stick holder is just OK. Thanks.
Intresting to see how much use those "Simple tongs" you made are getting. I've got some suitable stock set aside, it'll be intresting to see if they are simple enough for a tyro like me.
If I could fail at the same level as you, I'd be a MUCH better blacksmith! Very few of my ideas ever look like I wanted them to, as we are our own worst critics. This looks great and is far above my capabilities. Well done!
Nice work as always Glen. Never sell yourself short. You have great ideas and great skill. How about making yourself a cross peen hammer for spreading that metal?
When living in Washington State, I would also feed the birds and although there were no "exotic" varieties, I did really enjoy seeing those hardy birds that spend all winter and don't migrate. Chick-a-dee's are my favorite... Thanks.
I can't remember where I got that magnet but I do use some magnets I salvaged from old computer hard drives. Some of them are extremely powerful. Thanks for watching.
I dont really see anything to be improved, it works and looks good. If you really wanted to, without changing the shape of anything, you could of taken a chisel and hammered a leaf pattern in the base.
You're right. That is works is more important than the look but I should be able to attain a better flow on something like this, even if I rarely do projects like this. Thanks.

The birds begging by my smithy are my chickens, so it all evens out. I just looked up from my anvil and saw them playing in the newly falling snow.
Much respect. Your style is deliberate and unique. Thank you for sharing.
I'm not super pleased with this but it works just fine. Very glad you like it. Thanks.
Good work, I dub it: YELLOW BILLED MAGPIE CANDLE HOLDER. The official candle holder of Taiwan. It eats wax, as if it were on fire!
Great name. The birds approve... Thanks.
came away from this with not only a candle stick project but ideas for new tools thanks
I'm not terribly pleased with this but am very glad it's given you some ideas. Thanks for watching.

Great project Mr. Glen, thank you very much for sharing this with us.
This gives me a good idea for making a candle holder.
Thank you.

Great video. Liked the design of candle holder. Base will surely catch the falling wax👍👍👍👍
Glad you like this one. Thanks.
Nice candle holder. Interesting how it all came together at the end. Looking forward to your next video.
I seem to enjoy making things from one piece. This didn't turn out great but it works. I think I should try something like a miner's candle holder. Thanks Sonny.

Very unique. Thanks as always. Beautiful birds

Now you're ready for the next black-out
As allways very clean forging , thanks for sharing !
If and when we loose power, I think this would be pretty useful...maybe ugly, but useful. Thanks.
I like that Glen well done. I think the aesthetics are cool.
I'm not very pleased with this but that depends on the angle and how far away I am when looking. The farther I get, the better it looks! Thanks.
Turned out really good Glen.
Not my best work but good enough for this job. Thanks.
Intresting to see how much use those "Simple tongs" you made are getting. I've got some suitable stock set aside, it'll be intresting to see if they are simple enough for a tyro like me.
A lot of folks have emailed me that they've had success with the "simple tong" method. Give it a try. Thanks.
If I could fail at the same level as you, I'd be a MUCH better blacksmith! Very few of my ideas ever look like I wanted them to, as we are our own worst critics. This looks great and is far above my capabilities. Well done!
You're very humble. I bet you could blacksmith circles around me, especially if you had as many years forcing as I've had. Thanks.
Nice work Glen!
Thanks.
Hey Glen, is great! Thanks for sharing and take care 👍
It's my pleasure. I appreciate your support. Thanks.
Looks very nice!
Glad you like it. Thanks.
Love the tongs!
The tongs are the best part about this video and it isn't even a tong video! Thanks.
it's good to see the technique. thanks!
Just something else to think about / try. Thanks for watching.
Cool Candle Holder !
Thanks for watching.
Don’t knock it, very nice work.
I just wish I didn't thin that joint so much. Live and hopefully learn. Thanks.
Nice work as always Glen. Never sell yourself short. You have great ideas and great skill. How about making yourself a cross peen hammer for spreading that metal?
I love it!!! I think it's perfect!!!
Lol, when will the T+shirts be out ready for sale?
Keep it up!!!
The would make for a great T-shirt saying. Glad you like this candle holder. Thanks.
Well done sir
Nothing to brag about but it works. I guess the same could be said of me! Thanks.
Good Job
Thanks.

It says 'rustic' right in the title, it looks fine to me.
I meant rustic as in just simple and functional and that's about all this piece is but I'm glad you like this. Thanks.
What kind of magnet do you use to deaden the sound?
I can't remember where I got that magnet but I do use some magnets I salvaged from old computer hard drives. Some of them are extremely powerful. Thanks for watching.
Love this guillotine tool
My guillotine tool really suits me well. It's very stout and has just enough versatility in this very simple design. Thanks.
I dont really see anything to be improved, it works and looks good. If you really wanted to, without changing the shape of anything, you could of taken a chisel and hammered a leaf pattern in the base.
For sure the base already has a leaf-like quality to it and putting in some leaf veins / lines would improve the look. Good idea. Thanks.
Excelente 🖒🖒💪
I appreciate your support. Thanks.
Sometimes beauty is in functionality not aesthetics be well and be safe...........Bill
