For some of us, not directly effected by the virus, this will be the best of times. My wife working from home- we can share lunch each day, walk the dogs twice a day. We can find the time to work on projects together. I am quite happy with a moderate level of self-isolation. I think that you are enjoying your strikers company too.
Both pieces look very good but the opener with a dog's head really interested me the most . haven't seen one done that way before. As always very impressive and good presentation.cheers.
It's pronounced "me-johl-neer". I'm just getting into blacksmithing and I'm a practicing heathen and I want to make authentic style hammers and viking Era pendants/decorative pieces. I think your piece is gorgeous. Love the little touches. Can't wait to start getting wild with my designs.
I havent seen you other video but I and going to try both of these. Glad you made these pieces and will definitely hit jacob up to see if I can try me hand at this. Thanks again! Cheers!
Nice little projects there Dan, it is nice to mention people who inspired you in thier design as it is what you did look at them doing the work. I would say though if you went to a museum and looked at a design and both made one similar it is just the same principal. Viking dogs were done by the vikings first. Keep up the good work and stay safe.
My Mjolnir technique is getting better. You make me feel good about where im at with it tho! Always looking for tips and tricks, which I think I found one!
As always great content. Love that you did something a little new ( and gave props to the guy who inspired you) also that you went way back from your own vids and updated. Got the joke with the drop forge, cool channel too. you asked me a long while back to send you a pic of the dragon head bottle opener I was working on. I never forgot, but I have no idea how to actually do that (I'm wayyyy older than you and not internet savvy) so I just wanted to say I appreciate you asking but have no clue how to send the finished piece to you. Never mind, I'm happy with how it came out and the person it was gifted to is pleased with it so all is good. Thanks for the content and health to you and those you care about.
Been meaning to make a mjolnir hammer but got a few projects I’m working on at the moment so it will wait. The dog looks good and it’s good to give credit where it’s due. Thanks for sharing dan
Very cool!! One thing I have done on them ('mole near' hammers) is put chisel marks on the diagonal, on the handle. It kind of gives them a "leather wrapped" look. That bottle opener, is amazing! Well done Sir! 👍🏼👍🏼⚒️❤️🙂
Nice job, looks like the opener will even work. Maybe if you worked the dogs jaw a bit better you could open bottles with that end as well? Thanks Dan.
The version of the dog opener I make is the folded type and end ups looking like a face on front view of a bull dog. Really nice to see this style too.
Great work I remember the first video you did way back when you have come a long way with the videos I just had a similar video on forging a hammer from a bolt and always good to give credit when credit is due Dan great work keep it up man
Awesome as always Daniel!! I just checked out your other video and it was also great, both videos are well done. I do like the instructional in this better. Thank You Wayne
Dan, another great video! Do you mind if I attempt to make a Thor's Hammer pendant for my wife? I know there are tons of them on UA-cam but, I respect you! Some of them I respect and others, I don't! I have a very hard time visualizing, in my head what it's supposed to look like when it's done, so, I doubt if I'll attmpt a Dog's head cap lifter!! Why is it that the center of his hammer more pointed at the helve point than one of today's hammers? Do you know? Is it traditional, or is it just THOR'S thing?? Or, and I just thought of this, is it if the end of the handle that is sticking out a bit? I do enjoy watching you videos! Since I'm disabled enough that I can't do much, anymore, I guess, in a way, I'm living vicariously through your work! I can only do small things and would no more attempt to make a 2 pound hammer than I would lift an elephant! I'd end up hurting myself in either case! BTW, a 2 pound hammer is about the max I can use and be sure of making the blows land as they should! So, you can see that I'd have a hard time making a hammer head! Blessings to you and may He give you a long a profitable carreer!
I was wondering when you were going to hook the loop on that little Mjölnir (Me-yol-near) over the edge of the anvil to close it Dan, then in the next shot that's exactly what you did. Glad I'm not losing my eye for it at least. I'm also an advocate of using any part of the anvil you need to, I've even flipped them on their side to use the curve between the feet and the waist before now. Good advice to offer. Both are great little stocking fillers, and to the recipient there's nothing wrong with the dog if you don't point it out. :D
Personally, I pronounce it: me-ole-near. I've also heard it pronounced: me-ole-ner before as well. However you choose or are able to say it, Hail Odin, Hail Thor and his mighty hammer Mjolnir! (And, because I am also a Lokean Norse Pagan, Hail Loki, God of chaos! For without chaos there can be no change!)
Awesome as ever, making cool stuff from such a small piece of material - without the need for power hammers!
oh yes i never used a powerhammer, i get that it is useful with larger pieces when you lack a helper etc but for the artful stuff hands do wonders

In my opinion the new hammer is superior to the first one. It looks better and a bit easier to do. Great as usual
Very partial to the old Miolnir, really enjoyed this video! Good work Dan!
They look great nice job.
Tasty stuff that is. Always fun to try and push your limits.
Thank you pleased you enjoyed.
Fenrir bottle opener is amazing
Always great to watch your vids Dan
the new version looks better because of the file work. Both versions are very clean forgings in my opion. Thanks for the videos.
Love the video, Dan. It’s always nice watching people forge with the post vise for a change.
Appreciate all you do!
I especially like the dog head bottle opener. I have a boston terrier. Anyone who knows us will love one, gifted.
Della is my shoppie-dog.
Credit given where credit is due, well done. Dan !
Both pieces look very good but the opener with a dog's head really interested me the most .
haven't seen one done that way before.
As always very impressive and good presentation.cheers.

Thank You Dan! I was hoping someone would make a Jacob wolf/dog. Your right it is good to ask permission first.
That would hack me off too if someone took my idea and tried to play it off as their own, noce job giving proper credit, Dan.
Cool Projects !
Dropforge Joey van der steeg........ Nice Forging Dan ⚒️🔥⚒️
Nice work Dan. Jacob is a beast!!

Awesome as always Daniel!! I just checked out your other video and it was also great, both videos are well done. I do like the instructional in this better. Thank You Wayne
Pretty good Video ,, I wish there was a little more detail of the chisel work but , thats just my input.
Wow. Love it! Will have to make one for my daughter who has a little dog and loves a beer:) What dimension did you start with?

I think, bottle opener, is the first thing that a blacksmith make to start smithy, and after a knife.
What kind of steel is good for this project?
Mild steel is best but wrought iron would be very cool .

What's the purpose of that massive piece of drive chain hanging off your stump?
Personally, I pronounce it: me-ole-near. I've also heard it pronounced: me-ole-ner before as well. However you choose or are able to say it, Hail Odin, Hail Thor and his mighty hammer Mjolnir! always share where ya found the knowlage
I would love to have the dog
Love this stuff! You're okay sometimes. Lol
Worthy of Valhalla! :D (And it's pronounced "myol-neer" haha)
Noice!

1 Cat has given this a thumbs down :/
