Thank you for sharing your skill and how too do things. I have been in and out of the shop for 30 years as health and my back permits. currently working on a set of fireplace tools for a huge fireplace with heads. Great skill set.
I like your approach to your work, the steps involved and the process. You have a good eye for sure. I've said it before and I say again, you're a true craftsman.
Haha same. My classmates find it weird that I enjoy learning about forging and welding, however it's so beautiful and I hope I can one day try it out myself.
Beautiful ! My ancestors were the first blacksmiths in Tennessee, I like working with Silver, the apple didn't fall too far from the Celtic tree . Beautiful work , Sir. 😊
Very nice lily shape , some may call it a tulip any way it's great, gives me a new task to try in these crazy days . I don't have a power hammer so I just hammer and anvil it. Thank you for the video upload
I spent this whole video looking at the candle stick upside down until he set it to burn a candle at the end. lol I thought the cone shape was gonna be the bottom. beautiful work. Love your videos.
Damn you're good Torbjörn. thanks to you I've decided to start blacksmithing myself! Fasen vad duktigt du är Torbjörn! Vi köpte oss precis en liten gård och du kan ge dig på fasen på att jag kommer ge mig på det här hantverket också! :-)
In some cities East of Siberia boiled metal vertical rack and on all sides привариваю short pipe diameter 1/2 - 3/4 inches. Then cut FIR branches and inserted in the side short pipes. Get simulation live Christmas tree. And Forest did not hurt and children are satisfied)))
What’s the guillotine-looking contraption you put in your hardy hole at the 6:54 mark and is their a video for making it? It’s ingenious for people without a helper! Thanks and great work!
Thanks. No I don't have a video on it. It's quite simple. Just make guides for the dies, there are numerous designs of this tool. Google blacksmiths guillotine tool or something similar.
+Paul Krzysz Thanks. It's working alright I think. There is a problem with the lower die mount, which is not done in a good way. There is a "new" mount made to fit anyang 75kg dies. I have to fix that somehow in the future. I can't wedge the die as tight as it should be....
how do you attach your fullering does to your power hammer? Do you have photos anywhere? I'm mainly curious about attaching to the top die, I think I can figure out how the bottom fuller is attached.
+SmithinStu Check out my very first video - Forging a Brian Brazeal style hot cut hardie. There you can see how it works. I switch the entire upper die.
I'd imagine you could have a lot of fun by turning that into a sculpture. I think you could make something that looks like it belongs in a Tim Burton movie
+Torbjörn Åhman Why just a hobby? Are you not selling anything? Doing custom items for people? Cause I think you could if you went on multiple websites like Etsy as a start. I've seen lots of handcrafted items go and they aren't as high quality as yours I'd say. I am also interested in the forge, powerhammer and your files. The files seem to be extremely tough and the forge is something I would love to have if I ever get around to start smithing.
Hello Torbjorn! At 6:07, why did you change to the anvil block? I ask because I greatly appreciate your videos and your work. I have learned a lot from you and other talented smiths that take the time to post videos to UA-cam. Thank You in advance!Ron
Can't quite remember :) My anvil is quite wide and I think I wanted to avoid bending the tapered "stem"... It's not a linear taper so it can't lay flat on the anvil. If that makes sense...
Maybe you could wait to make the actual candle holder to the last step, so you can place that end on the anvil to back the blows when riveting the tenon. Instead of the torch you can heat the hole bottom piece together with the tenon.
I always look forward to seeing the next project, this one is amazing in that it takes the violence of hammer blows and creates something graceful. Question....if you accidentally thin out a piece too much (which there are no such things as accidents right?) is it recoverable? Thank you so much for sharing!
+God's Touch Ministry The River's Edge Thanks! If thinned out too much it's usually beyond repair. If you're drawing out and the work piece still is in "bar shape", you often can upset it back.
+Torbjörn Åhman Thank you for replying . It is one of the best anvils I have seen on UA-cam . I will check out the brand . Keep up the good work my friend .
Great work, as always. It's not all about knives and axes. I hope blacksmithing continues to grow.
Thank you for sharing your skill and how too do things. I have been in and out of the shop for 30 years as health and my back permits. currently working on a set of fireplace tools for a huge fireplace with heads. Great skill set.
From noise and fire, smoke and sparks comes something graceful and serene. Beautiful!
+Steve Mackelprang Best comment 😊
+Steve Mackelprang Like the Phoenix 🌠
Even if you had forgotten your makers mark I would knew it was yours, cause to me your mark is your quality and craftsmanship!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
+2dividedby3 Thanks!
I like your approach to your work, the steps involved and the process. You have a good eye for sure. I've said it before and I say again, you're a true craftsman.
I could watch u all night...so talented, creative , and a master at ur craft...thank you sir!
A beautiful tulip candlestick. Simple yet elegant.
This video was a treat to watch.
Thank you from Minneapolis Minnesota.
+arty359 I second your comment - I am also from Minneapolis.
Haha same. My classmates find it weird that I enjoy learning about forging and welding, however it's so beautiful and I hope I can one day try it out myself.
What a beautiful piece of ancient, yet very practical art. Thank you for sharing.
I look forward to another one of your videos. Really enjoy seeing something useful be created out of nothing.
Beautiful !
My ancestors were the first blacksmiths in Tennessee, I like working with Silver, the apple didn't fall too far from the Celtic tree . Beautiful work , Sir. 😊
+Nancy Rose Black Thank you! That's cool.
Things of beauty and grace: the process and the product. Wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice proportions in the candlestick. It is good to see you back with a new video. :-)
+Eugene Simonalle Thanks!
+Torbjörn Åhman sorry for my English i from Ukrenian/ You video is very good i teach meny good momets!))) Make more video please!
Very nice lily shape , some may call it a tulip any way it's great, gives me a new task to try in these crazy days .
I don't have a power hammer so I just hammer and anvil it. Thank you for the video upload
Beautiful candlestick, so simple but so elegant, thank you.
I see how one could use a similar process to make the socket for a socket chisel. Fantastic video, as always. Thank you.
+Curoi MacDaire Thanks! Yes, it's the same process, but for a chisel socket you probably should overlap the edges and weld them together.
I spent this whole video looking at the candle stick upside down until he set it to burn a candle at the end. lol I thought the cone shape was gonna be the bottom.
beautiful work. Love your videos.
ha ha, Thanks!
You never cease to amaze a blacksmith in learning :)
That is a very elegant candlestick, great looking project.
Superb quality, in both craftsmanship and video production.
Beautiful 😃
Making decisions along the way, and then come up with the "final solution"
That's often how I make stuff, with just a general idea to start with.
Hi,
And thank you for this and all your other videos showing your skill as a forger.Very much appreciated.
+mrbluenun Thanks!
That new power hammer really kicks ass!
+justfakeit888 Yes, there is power behind the blows... Easy to mess up if your not careful. :)
Simple yet elegant, very nice work!
Beautiful. Elegant. Simple. Well done.
Congratulations...!
U're a very skill craftsman

Amazing talent, thank you for sharing this! Also here's a tip: what you made is called a candlestick holder. The candlestick goes inside it.

+Robert Gibb N1RLU Thank you!

+Adam ”Deliveryboxx” Price Thank you!
That drilled out hammer head is genious...! Gonna steal that idea, hehe! =P
Ha ha, yes it looks like that, but it's actually a tool made from scratch for this application
A masterpiece of beauty
I always get so excited to see a new video from you. Haven't watched yet, but I know it's a good job. ;)
Been waiting for a new video forever! Yay!

Damn you're good Torbjörn. thanks to you I've decided to start blacksmithing myself!
It is fantastic to look that video. Nice piece of work. I take some good ideas from your channel.
+Konstantin D Thanks! Great, do that.
you are master! I immediately remembered that Christmas was coming soon! )))
I love your work. My forging skills are not as good as yours, but I hope they will someday.
Nice to see a new video, inspiring as always!

So beautiful!!

The candle holder is elegant. how do you like the new power hammer?
+Paul Krzysz Thanks. It's working alright I think. There is a problem with the lower die mount, which is not done in a good way. There is a "new" mount made to fit anyang 75kg dies. I have to fix that somehow in the future. I can't wedge the die as tight as it should be....
I love your videos. Can I suggest that you indicate the amount of time it takes to complete these items?
Very nice work.
what are you rubbing on there at 11:50 ? is it o color it black? what temperature do you heat the metal to?
+derplecbob Yes, it's linseed oil on a black heat ~300-400 deg C. It gets black at that temperature.
thanks for responding. i look forward to your next video :)
Just seen this one, love it as always top job mate.
Nice. You could also make the "shaft" twisted, but that's up to personal preference i guess
+Daniel Thu Yes, there are numerous design possibilities!
how do you attach your fullering does to your power hammer? Do you have photos anywhere? I'm mainly curious about attaching to the top die, I think I can figure out how the bottom fuller is attached.
+SmithinStu Check out my very first video - Forging a Brian Brazeal style hot cut hardie. There you can see how it works. I switch the entire upper die.
Den nya hammaren verkar vara en bra investering. :) Jösses, den hanterar materialet som om det vore kakdeg!
+dixonqwerty Jo, man får passa sig, lätt att göra bort sig fort :)
Verry nice would be kinda hard to do without the power hammer what did you coat it with at the end to give it the dark finish
+renemanjr123 Thanks. Yes the bottom part is hard to do, but it's easy to come up with a different design for that. It's linseed oil for the finish.
Parabens ,voce tem muita criatividade e detales
Thanks!
Wonderful piece!
Thanks
I'd imagine you could have a lot of fun by turning that into a sculpture. I think you could make something that looks like it belongs in a Tim Burton movie
beautiful !
Beautiful, well done.
+João Edgar Thanks
Wat is the old hammer head for? shouldering?
+PastyNoob Yes, fixing up the shoulder. It's actually not a hammer, but a tool made from scratch.
Verry verry Nice job.pat from Belgium 🔪
Such an amazing piece! The power hammer is very cool. Is blacksmithing your job or just a hobby?
+knives&stuff Just a hobby for now...
+Torbjörn Åhman Why just a hobby? Are you not selling anything? Doing custom items for people? Cause I think you could if you went on multiple websites like Etsy as a start. I've seen lots of handcrafted items go and they aren't as high quality as yours I'd say.

magnusbjarnisk
I've started selling some items, but I'm going easy since the time is limited. :)
That probably explains it. Could you tell me what you sold and how long it took to make (approximately)?
magnusbjarnisk I've sold a couple of candle holders / candlesticks for example. They usually take around 2h to make.
Hello Torbjorn! At 6:07, why did you change to the anvil block? I ask because I greatly appreciate your videos and your work. I have learned a lot from you and other talented smiths that take the time to post videos to UA-cam. Thank You in advance!Ron

10* Beautiful, easy made product.
Faan så snygg! Vackert arbete som vanligt :)
+Marcus Nystrom Tackarrrr!
Very nice
Very good .
Good work! I like it :) It is a pity that the video output is rarely :(
Mark Fisher. Ukraine.
Looks amazing what was it you were rubbing on it at the end
Thanks. Linseed oil!
Mate any tips for someone trying to do this that doesn't have a blacksmith vice or torch to do tenon joint??
Maybe you could wait to make the actual candle holder to the last step, so you can place that end on the anvil to back the blows when riveting the tenon. Instead of the torch you can heat the hole bottom piece together with the tenon.
Thank mate good Idea.
fine work. Thank you.
Cool video.
Very nice and beautiful results! What was the finish you put on it?
Thanks. That's good old boiled linseed oil.
Good work I love it too
Is this oil of a certain type for use
And what kind of oil
I use linseed oil for the black finish.
very nice! what finishing product did you use?
+René VdB Linseed oil as usual :)
Nice one!
I can't find this music... Anyone know where I can get it...?
awesome video.. how much would you sell something like that for?
+Colin pierce Thank you. Probably around $60

hello would you tell me the song name at the end?
Beautiful. Is that oil you use to finish it off?
+christian siegel Yes, linseed oil as usual :)
Nice job
Thanks!
Can you make a video about steelcable damast?
Some day....
riktigt bra video! god jul!
+viktor Rygielski Tack det samma!
precioso, realmente bonito!!!
Your work is so fucking awesome! It's really relaxing for me to watch what are you doing :D after hard day ...
+Bartek K Thanks!
What is the name on that anvil ? It is cool .
+Howie Z It's a "Kohlswa" anvil. Old Swedish brand that actually still is in production.
+Torbjörn Åhman Thank you for replying . It is one of the best anvils I have seen on UA-cam . I will check out the brand . Keep up the good work my friend .
where did you get the power hammer
I have bought both my power hammers used from other blacksmiths.
