What is Kirk Hammetts favorite beverage?
"WAHter"
LOL
What's the difference between Kirk Whammett and a vacuum cleaner?
When you unplug a vacuum cleaner it simply doesn't suck anymore.
wah wah
Gonna be honest. You’ve made a good joke out of a way to overused meme. Like
SmellerOfSound you mean wah-nest...... ;)
your not a true guitar player till you buy a way pedal sell it and buy it back again, lol.
Jason Goodsell I've literally done this five times. Three times with the basic Dunnlop Crybaby.
Jason Goodsell why the fuck dont people use them anymore
Truest statement ever made
Wait, why?
Bought a Crybaby in 72, sold it to a friend who took it to Berkly for the year, he came back said his jazz instructor laughed at it, I bought it back. Still have it, still use it.
*Kirk Hammett breathing heavily in background with hand in pants*
My first pedal. Dunlop Crybaby Wah. Still my favorite pedal!!!
and mine was the VOX - it seemed so massive compared to my little Boss pedals - but I would never part with it. BTW, I bought it second hand (in perfect shape) in 1983 and I still use it 1-2 times a week at gigs and 1 time a week practice in 2017 with hardly any time off. It has never failed me.
Ahmad Kareem me too
Mine was the Vox. I hocked it for dope in '99. You don't even want to know how much I got for it. Stupid decision. I would love to still have that same one (and you know it would still be working fine all these years later). My dad found it at a consignment shop, got it for my birthday. Never should've let it go.
I did get a new Vox hand wired 847 I believe. I don't remember what happened to my Crybaby
I love the Five Things videos, they're so informative. Keep up the good work Phil!
*Insert Kirk joke here*
Kirk WAHmmet
Kirk gift to metal is the Wah. :)
What's the difference between Kirk Whammett and a vacuum cleaner?
When you unplug a vacuum cleaner it simply doesn't suck anymore.
Oh, do tell. :)
Surprised there aren't any Kirk Hammett jokes yet
The Cry Baby was my first pedal. I wore the first one out. Now my second in all these years is still alive at 20 years of age. Great topic Phillip!
Can you show how a wah pedal is adjusted? I would like to see if I could do that with mine... you know before I break it or burn my house down. Lol
Flip it over take the back off loosen the screw on the little tension adjuster on your rack which is the part that moves the gear up and down on the potentiometer and you can pull that back pull the rack away from the gear and move it over a few teeth one way or another will give you more travel to one way or other,,don't forget to tighten the tensioner back up
i got an ad with kirk hammett in it on this video.
Keep it up! Looking forward for more videos from you, don't stop!
I think you’re missing an “The” or “S” in the title... great video, nonetheless🤘🏻
I’m always learning something new from your 5 things you may not know series. I don’t have a wah pedal yet but looking into which one to get and overwhelmed with the choices.
I always thought Jim Dunlop was the original wah. It's called the original crybaby so in thought it was my first. Essential to my tone.
Christopher Kaesemeyer No its the original wah pedal that Dunlop made, it used different parts then the nornal dunlop uses now which is why they went ahead and made a new version of the "original" Dunlop Cry Baby
I loathe putting another potentiometer into my signal chain. I learned quickly that the Ernie Ball volume pedal is a tone vampire. That is why my wah and volume are both Morley optical. Far superior and it will never drag down your tone. Plus they are maintenance free.
Maybe do 5 things we didn't know about fuzz pedals?
I modded my Vox. Replaced the transducer, the pot and made it true bypass. I don't use a fuzz though............
My favorite pedal too.
A buffer in a wah pedal wouldn't drive a fuzz pedal any differently because the buffer only matters when the pedal is turned off right?
Cool info my man, here's a great tip for all you way junkies out there, if you run a high gain amp, sometimes your wah can lose a bit of it's effectiveness to high gain, especially if you switch to neck pickup for leads, it may be barely noticeable. Now, if you're using overdrive to tighten up or kick your high gain sound up a bit, put the overdrive before the way, meaning, guitar-overdrive-was-amp. Your wah's tone and effectiveness will be dramatically boosted, even on neck pickup. I'm talking super think ,extreme ,very vocal, rockstar was tone. Try it you may never go back.
Peace out my fellow guitarists. Love what you're doing Phillip, keep spreading the gospel of guitar.
Sorry about the damn autocorrect, the chain was, guitar-overdrive-wah-amp
kirk hammet anybody?
Yes, Kirk gift to metal is the Wah. :)
Moss-Mop1 *insert Kirk Hammett joke*
zakk wylde
Zakk Wylde is the poor mans Randy Rhoads
+My Urban Exploration zakk wylde doesnt sound anything like randy rhoads's boring ass playing except the chorus effect. zakk wylde does badass heavy metal and folky ballads.
The Morley pedals are the best on the market. The optical wah is stellar, and the optical volume pedal is also stellar. Most volume pedals are tone vampires (i.e. Ernie Ball) and are just another potentiometer in your signal chain. The optical volume has no pots, so it's always clean and always works. Magic!
Yes the Bad Horsey is a fabulous pedal. Smooth, switchless and has an insane amount of throw. You can really dig into it and it sounds so good. I think that is Steve Vai's signature
It'd be great to see pedals like the colorsounds and boomerangs getting some love. completely different sound from the vox/crybaby types that the vast majority of wahs are these days.
Hi Philip.
Yet another great, informative vid. I never knew Vox originally 'owned' Crybaby before JD bought it out.
I'm more interested in your endpoint, though.
Instead of just sending three guitars to a charity, couldn't you use your industry contacts to spread the word and get those three guitars signed by various artists, and then auction them off, and get a whole bunch of guitars going to that/those charity organisation/s?
Keep up the stellar work, dude! :)
Vox didn't own the crybaby name, Thomas Organ did, and for the most part both the Vox and Crybaby wah was built by a 3rd party, called Jen in Italy. And Jen was also contracted by just about everyone under the sun to make wahs derived from the Vox/Crybaby for them.
What Phillip didn't mention is that Jim Dunlop didn't buy just the name, he also bought the original tooling, and most importantly Brad Plunkett's circuit. When he did that, Vox (soon to be Korg) didn't have access to the circuit, but Dunlop did actually make Vox branded wah's under license using the same circuit the Crybaby had up until the late 90's/early 2000's. Then Korg started having Vox branded wahs made in China with a circuit that is completely unlike the original circuit.
I just can't stop staring at that les paul classic. I think I need a refill of my GAS medication.
Just discovered your channel. Happy to hear you're headed towards 100k subscribers--it's well deserved.
1. Kirk Hammett uses one2. Kirk Hammett uses one3. Kirk Hammett uses one4. Kirk Hammett uses one5. Kirk Hammett uses one
Great video! Keep it up
Noted the "Snarling Dogs" pedal behind you. I imported one from the USA to the UK some years ago. Airport Security opened my luggage just to admire it! :-)
Have a dunlopcry baby and whino snarling dog wah both great wah is the best guitar effect for sure
No mention of the _cocked wah_ sound a' la Ronson.
******** Phillip ,, I am the proud owner of a few rare Morley wah pedals, I have had large offers on these pedals ( even from the Morley company ) due to the limited production & age... & uniqueness of them,, Have you ever heard of the Morley PIC-A-WAH , or the Morley Attack-a-wah or the Morley pic- a- phase ? These pedals came factory with a double jack cable one side plugged into the input of the guitar, the other held a """ METAL GUITAR PICK """" ( copper ) '''' So the effect could be played from pedal or picking the strings, via the wired copper pick,,, both actions will activate the effect. As I have researched these I have found they were very limited & even harder to find,, I keep mine in meant condition in a glass case with original boxes. Do a tiny bit of research you can get info on them, fun stuff kodi
...and I own a Thomas Organ Cry Baby Wah Wah! (Question!!!! Does the Morley design continue to never have any of the potentiometer dirty noise?)
That gold top with P90's is gorgeous.
Great video, Phil. My old Morley Wah (ancient chrome plated, mains powered thing) had a footswitch beside the rocker pedal to bypass it. I think it's only more recently that they made them bypass when you rock back.
So. That Buffer detail.........Now if you put a Buffer in front of other things..What happens? Does it make a MetalZone Suck less?
yep, heard it before. I sold my Dunlop CryBaby and bought a Vox,still have it,,should never have sold the CryBaby,,they are NOT the same. CRYBABY sounds a lot better. Had an old Morley years ago with fuzz too, switches were on the side,,big wide wahwah, but didn't hold up very well, somehow broke one side off stomping on switch and trashed it,,oh being young and dumb. Good review,,next time plug them in and listen,,try Voodoo Chile(slight return)
I had a Bad Horsey.... HATED IT! Ended up going back to my old Morley volume wah.....
I still own Vox Big Bad Wah and I thought I like it more than my 535q. Too bad Vox stops producing it even though Joe Satriani still using it. They are expensive on 2nd hand market
MORLEY IN BRIGHT SUNLIGHT DOES NOT WORK
Hi Phillip. I tried to message you through the about tab on your UA-cam profile, but I must be doing something wrong. I will ask my question here, I hope it's OK. What is your opinion on Fretlight guitars? Their top end model is 500 and the next step down is 400. Is there a model and or upgrade components you can recommend. Love the channel btw!
Fact! Mick Ronson Lead Guitarist music arrangements of David Bowies The Spiders From Mars used nothing but a black beauty Custom Les Paul, a Marshall stack and a wah!
Phil, if you are looking for a charity to donate an acoustic guitar, Music Is Art here in Buffalo is an organization that, among other things, works to get instruments into the hands of kids who may otherwise not be able to get them. One of it's founders and main dudes is Robby Takac from the Goo Goo Dolls. You can check them out at www.musicisart.org.
Separately, my b-day is July 26. Cheers, birthday neighbor.
Thx...I had so much fun watching this upload that I reached my daily laugh dosis already...and the day still has to start. Now...isnt that something? The weird thing is that I still feel happy...sure I subscribed...lol.
5 things you may not know about Area 51...... hahahaha
Or maybe just 5 things about Classic and flamenco guitars....
why are the necks so fat
Farfisa of Italy had developed this concept way before Vox they used to call it a Hawaiian pedal it was a little tab instead off the volume pedal and when you push your foot against it made a wa effect,as eary as 1959,,,
And as vox was having these made by farfisa,,,,,,,,,,,hmmmm!
Guitars for Vets?
Why does no one talk about plugging the wah in backwards to make it like a theramin? Guitar into the left amp into the right. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Think Pink Floyds Meddle.
Fuck didn't know that VOX and Cry Baby were the same pedal, years ago I sold a VOX pedal to buy a Cry Baby XD .. and I swore it sounded better haha.
Has anybody else picked up on when he says number two he says “DOS”
Why not count in french from 1.-5 ??
It baffles me 🤔
Have you tried the Morley George Lynch Dragon 2 Wah? If so, what to you think about it? Can you do a review/comparison of all your wah pedals?
Morley Bad Horsie is my favorite. I don’t like the sound of the Crybaby.
My Cry Baby came with an instruction sheet that had all the Vox logos blacked out it was made by Thomas Organ and cost a hefty $63.00 from Sam Goody
I love my wah, I have the Dunlop Dimebag wah which to me basically has all the previous Dunlop wahs built in (not really but is has all the controls from all the Dunlop wahs made before it combined into the Dimebag wah so it can do all those different wah tones)
I heard it's an extremely versatile wah, I want one.
The Dunlop Mini-Crybaby is my wah. I got the Jimi Hendrix model which is voiced on his original pedal. It is much more subtle than others. It still has a ton of throw but like he said, it is not so warbly and shrill. Love it!
i have an old Vox "'king wah"' .Is there any difference? i had to replace the pot in it. the.New part was smaller seemed like the old 1 sounded better ,and of course i messed with the adjusted the tone on the pot ,now im Allways fooling with it ,so do you know any thing about '''the King Wah"' i think a Stratocaster is the guitar for the wah-wah or vice versa ... let me know about the "' Vox King Wah"' Thanx a lot ...
...
I bought my cry baby for guitar, but I am also playing keyboard and bass to create reggae beats. I had an idea to connect my keyboard trough wah trough line 6 interface, and I use pedal to wah wah trumpet, clavinet and piano on keyboard and it sounds awesome :D
I see you have a Snarling Dogs pedal behind you. I have a Wonder Wah 2 (as well as a Dunlop 95Q).
Phil I'm surprised that you or any other commenters mentioned the reverse seagull wah phenomenon... nobody likes Pink Floyd here I guess... I think that really deserves a mention.
Happy Birthday Phillip! I am your 100,000th subscriber.
You've a great show, no doubts about the 100k.
For the charity guitars, how about a veterans home in your area. That way you can support the gifts and maybe volunteer to to give a few lessons.
"Made on accident"? Is that a regional thing? I would say "made by accident", but now I wonder why that seems right to me?
I'm too late... subscriber 190,000 something
I wuv my wah.
I love this channel because of your honesty, humbleness and all you do to inform us with gear. Good luck achieving more and more success with you channel and everything you desire.
I gave the mini crybaby , but I don't like it which crybaby should I buy?
I didn't know any of this.Thumbs up! I miss my Crybaby wah. Wahhhhhh
And what about the BOSS Wah with led operation hassle free pedal ???
When I first started playing guitar I got a wah, about 4-5 years later it still works like new
mine is signed by Brad Plunkett... only one he ever autographed
Phil... did you end up closing your store? Wasn't sure if you followed thru on that earlier idea
Which vintage sounding wah pedal is the most transparent /least tone suck when turned off ? That is what I want.
I don't have a pedal, I feel so left out....slaps my acoustic upside the machine heads :)
Give a guitar to Share the Music. Great organization that gives instruments to children who would have never had an instrument.
6) They break and you can't use the warranty cause you forgot to activate it 4 weeks after purchase
I always thought that jim Dunlop invented the tennis shoes 😂😂
Bought a Vox 847 wah. Should be here tomorrow or Friday.
Does anybody know there is a guitar player named Wah Wah Watson?
I would support your Chanel man but I'm 16 and I don't have money to spend
Almost 100,000 subscribers Phillip!!
I don't use mine much. Only when I want to Hammett up a bit.
Thanx Phil,great video. God bless
Do you like the snarling dogs wah? I have the whine o wah but I only like it with a dirt pedal after it in the chain.
Clyde MCcoys sound was certainly not infamous!
Hey Phil... How about Guitars For Vets?

Dude, that's my birthday too....!!!!
5 things you didn't know about guitar cables
lol your birthday is July 27th, mine is June 26th
guitars for Vets. fighting ptsd with music lessons.
Does the optical portion in the Morley ever need cleaning or a blast of air to clean out dust?
Kirk made a thousand accounts and liked this video with every one of them
Another excellent video. Bravo and thank you.
Wow, I didn't know most of these. Thanks Phil.
This is my favourite video you've ever done,Ive watched you grow from 200 subs if ever make 1k ill be happy...
I use Morley tremonti wah absolutely love it 🤘🏼
I have a Crybaby, but these days, I use my Fulltone Clyde more.
I probably would not have thought about buying a shirt until now.
*Phil* what kind of shelves do you use for the effect pedals.?
Love my Cry-Baby. Also got a Kirk Hammet wah - but this particular wah doesn't come with an OFF switch. (wah-waaaaah.. :)
not a fan of the bad horsie, use the Vox V847 and tone is perfect for Voodoo Child
The Bad horse is for me, really because a you have to do is rotate the pedal up and it cuts on and I love that
Raise you hand if you think optical wahs sound like ass.
