I love wah pedals, I've owned 3 of the ones from the list, the 535Q, the 95Q and now I own the Slash one... Gotta say they're all impressive, if they make a pedal like the 535Q in the style of the 95Q that will def be the ultimate wah pedal, I love how the 95Q activates just by stepping on it and it turns off when you step off, not to mention it feels better under the foot because when you push it with your foot it moves all the way up and down and there's no risk of turning it off by stepping on it to hard.
Need to try the John Petrucci, Zakk Wylde, and Jerry Cantrell. They seem to be very well regarded. The Dime Crybaby from Hell is awesome. Super versatile. Love mine.
I have not played a ton of wahs, but a buddy of mine had the Zakk Wylde and I really like it. Sounded less harsh top end and didn't have a dramatic sweep from what i recall. I've been keeping my eye out for a cheap one
I coveted one for years, finally got one about 10 years ago and it's been my main live one ever since. I love the Cantrell ones too, still using one on my home rig and it never disappoints!
Best wah review ever. They all sound almost the same clean except the EVH and Slash. Then with dirt the EVH and Slash sound the best. I have the 535Q since it came out and it's personally to me the most versatile wah ever and with the correct settings you can make it sound like all those wah pedals.
I’m using the mini-wah, it’s fantastic. The internal dip switches to change the voicing is clutch. I like the second position, seems to add some throatiness back into it, more similar to the Joe B. Wah
@@rannz8 oof. Sorry to hear that, but I hope you're enjoying the DS-1. Yeah, I assume you can still make good deals since they probably acquired the goods for a song, but I've never enjoyed the haggling, so I just don't bother looking in Pawn shops anymore.
I can't believe you were able to turn them on/off in one shot with the pedals on double carpet! That's truly impressive! Oh and the playing was decent too ;)
I like the 535Q. I had that wah, before I got a Fulltone Clyde Deluxe. (my wah since 2009) . Also love the Teese RMC-10. All Wah's should have the 2 indicator-lights on top, like the EVH wah. Great comparison. Well done, informative & very fair.
Honestly; and not just because I'm a fan, i think the Jim Dunlop JC95 Jerry Cantrell Signature wah covers just about all these tones simply, and effectively. And looks cool too.
Great job Shane! I can’t imagine all the time that took to make, but it was great it will definitely help people looking for a wah. Thanks for your hard work! 👍🏾
It looks like he has the Cry Baby 535Q and the Cry Baby 95Q labeled as each other. So, you need to reverse those to know which is which. The 535 is on the very end, while the one he points out as odd (second from the right in the row nearest him) is the 95Q.
It took me until later in the video to figure it out too. I was bummed thinking they had changed the 95Q to be in line with most other Crybaby pedals. The spring loaded/instant on aspect of the 95Q is what makes it so cool and unique. I've had one since 2000, and even though I have bought other CB's since, I often go back to the 95Q as my main Wah
Yeh, I was looking for a review of the 95Q with the auto on and was disappointed that it was switched with the 535 and the auto feature not fully eqplained.
Agreed The slash pedal is a pleasant sound along with Hendrix pedal , Joe's pedal is nice EvH was also great , as far as signature pedals go , Gary Clarks has a interesting mid range tone that was cool .
I still have my GCB95 from ‘91 but the EVH has been on my pedal board since 2008! I did own a Zakk Wylde and a Kirk Hammett at various times but the EVH always came back! Cool review!!
Great video. I can only imagine what a pain the the ass it had to be to edit. They’re all pretty similar, but I liked the quack of the Joe and the Jimi.
The Dime CB also has a red 17dB volume boost switch at the heel. It IS, hands down, the most versatile. You can dial in any other of the 13 pedals with just that one. If you can handle a V8 then this is the V12!
Very cool video, I found the differences very subtle and the wah effect to be fairly even between all pedals. The mini and dim wah seemed meh on the mids but great on the highs. Awesome video. Thanks for gathering up all those pedals for comparison
The differences are noticeable and distinct, however, there's not enough difference that I'll upgrade from my Original Crybaby. Dig, thanks for posting
The biggest difference i noticed is between Bonamassa and EVH. I've been considering that JoeBo pedal for awhile and i might get it now. Thanks for the video!
YIKES! Thanks for handling this gigantic project. As a wah is in the near future, really appreciate what you've done here. Bonamassa or 535Q are the ones for me...so far. Still looking at Vox. Gonna do a Vox comparison?🤣 Thanks man👍😎 👍😎❤🖖 Love brother
Your absolutely right the 2nd one on the beginning is super thin, especially the second to last. Jimmy Wah is great and the Gary Clark as it was very bright in sound.
I did a shootout at a music store in Scottsdale Arizona and ended up buying the Cry Baby GCB 95F! it sounded like the sounds of the 60's and has a full waoooo sound.. love it!
Great demo! Thanks for comparing all of them. One small heads up, you swapped the 535Q and 95Q labels around, the former has the big silver knob, the latter has no switch.
The cheap one the gcb95 (one of my favorite) stands up pretty well, check out a shootout between a crybaby, vox, morley, but do it right. Theres a behringer hellbabe too that looks cool. Dont forget the hand wired pedals, those are worth a lot
Clean, the Hendrix and two Slash models have a wider range of wah tone than all the others, they seem to go a little more on the bass end. Once you introduce the distortion, the difference becomes a whole lot less.
Great video! I received the Hendrix Wah as a gift some time ago and I’ve always wondered where it sat in the sweep/frequency range in comparison to other models. I like the Bonamassa’s sweep. The EVH definitely shines with more gain!
I used to have a vox wah back in the '70s, long gone now, but now I have the 535Q that is sooooo adjustable and the boost circuit sounds smoother than my other distortion/OD pedals. I love it. Its like having several wah pedals in one.
This is awesome. Loved the JB one and the slash 😊. I've had an old vox for 20 years now and recently got the Mooer Wahter. Sounds great, small but folds out and is activated as soon as you put your foot on. Great video as always!
I have used a S/H GCB-95 (revision F or G from memory). 12 years ago ago I modded to True Bypass put in a sealed pot and changed a few resistors. The onboard input/output jacks broke so I replaced those with wired off the board metal jacks. Recently, I dropped in an LED on/off light. It's just keeps on ticking and rolling with the changes. I'm not a purist but the True Bypass mod for these is an essential one for me -- stock the models they made through the '80s, 90s and a bit later are complete tone suckers. They roll off a lot of top end when bypassed.
The Hendrix, Slash, and Bonamassa pedals sounded the best to me. They seemed like they would do best with the type of sound/ tone I want to achieve. Thanks for the vid.
oh i remember my first ever wah wah xD it was this off brand wah i ordered online lol. it worked but it would pick up random AM radio signals lol got a gcb95 OG kater, modded it with the Q and the volume mods. somehow killed it and then just bought the 535Q :D oh i love that pedal
I felt that both Slash pedals and the Hendrix one had a richer and more defined sound. The mini and Van Halen were just to shrill and scrambled the notes into near white noise. The rest of them met their basic function but nothing noteworthy. In a highly controlled environment such as a studio I'd probably go with the 1st Slash pedal but otherwise my Crybaby Classic is fine and I wouldn't replace it for general use. Thanks again for the work you put into this!
Great video super helpful. Looking to put together first pedal board. Thinking Slash Wah (as it has the distortion) straight into a Valeton GP200LT and I’m done!
535Q is the best in my opinion and of course for my taste of sound - cleanest, a lot of tone variables (that was not presented in the video), works great both with clean and dirt sounds. If I would play only rock/metal with a lot of gain and no clean tones, then SLASH woud be my choice over 535Q. Thank you for the video, it was fire to have possibility to compare so many pedals ! Appreciate your effort.
The red Slash pedal had the most appealing sweep range to me. I like a lower frequency wah sweep. The knob on the side looks like that the sweep range may be adjustable. That or some sort of built in boost. I'll have to look into it. I do have a CB-95 that I rolled the pot back inside to give it a lower sweep. I definitely like the spring loaded wah just for the fact of operating in the way the wah is naturally used, meaning you press down and roll in from the lower frequencies first, instead of smashing the button down and starting high.
There’s 2 knobs on the side, gain and volume, there’s also a distortion switch at the back on the same side that can only be engaged if the wah is engaged :)
my ear must be finally getting good. i pretty much agreed with all your thoughts. wasn't too fussed on the slash ones though. you liked the second one a fair bit. cheers mate

I feel it would have been best to comment on the sound etc after each pedal and before moving on to the next.
The Jimi one was stunning
The major differences I noticed in the recording are in the box and price :)
More of a shootout in the cost of licensing a name than wah sounds.
I think that the EVH and the From Hell have some extra dB in the signal boost...but yeah, overall they're all crybabies
Exactly!
They really blew it by not naming the mini the baby cry baby
I think "mini" is appropriate
Agreed lol

When you are trying to summon Kirk Hammet too hard...
Damn
If he had gotten the KH signature I reallt do think he would have spawned LoL
Tom Morello and Jerry Cantrell seeing Kirk Hammett bullied for his wah like.

WAH-ter 😆

I was really excited until I saw they were all cry baby variants. Still cool, but I wanted a comparison of like Morley and Vox as well.
Exactly! I wanted to see the Morley "Bad Horsie 2"
Although I a share your sentiment I am glad this exists as is and look forward to additional versions of this!
I got all the ones they had in stock. Sadly no other brands were available at the time of filming.
Indeed and the Ibanez WH10V3 Wah would have been nice too. Also called the Frusciante wah.

I've had two Cantrell's since they released. Besides the Hendrix, the only wah I'll ever use.
I always have a hard time deciding between my dimebag and zakk wylde wah. I usually go with the zakk, tho
Just got the CFH because of its versatility and dual output. IMO, if you need to choose just one, then the CFH is it.

Dunlop 535Q for me. Works great for when I actually need a wah.

thanks!

@@orionsshoe2424 one? he has 14, linked together with a strip of 2x4 so they all operate together.

When you do wah demos do you buy new shoes.
Need a shoes sponsor XD
I was wondering if he did that to not dirty up the pedals he borrowed.
If you've been watching Shane long enough you know he was not going to do a pedal video with old dirty shoes.

I demoed the mini recently for a local music shop and was dead impressed. The 3 settings are really distinct and the sweep is great
I thought it sounded the worst in this demo.
Dude...this is a great vid. Wah wah wah....thank you from Arizona.
Dang...now I have to dig out my wah pedal....😂
I second that, also residing in the sticker patch.
the EVH reminded me of a Vox as the sweep down went a little further. my favourite was the first Slash (red)… that sounded killer.
Thanks for doing all this work for us! Hours of research in a 15 minute video 🤘🏼

Ironic because Eddie almost never used a wah
@@yrmthr well, he used it enough that the pot wore out and gave it a unique mid rangey sound that they recreated for the signature one…

Great video. I can only imagine what a pain the the ass it had to be to edit.
They’re all pretty similar, but I liked the quack of the Joe and the Jimi.
You totally are going to understand and make a separate review over the Dimedag wah 😎🎸😎🎸😎🎸😎🎸
Some of these Wah pedals don't have a true bypass, so when you're connecting them all in series, the last one will be effected by that maybe?
The first one is affected too, there's still a lot "non-true bypass" wah after the pedal
If it really bugs you, there's tons of mods you can do for really cheap. Including True Bypass.
Great comparison Shane, I like the crybaby original and the Bonamassa. But they all are pretty cool. Fantastic video great work.
Good call!
The Dime CB also has a red 17dB volume boost switch at the heel. It IS, hands down, the most versatile. You can dial in any other of the 13 pedals with just that one. If you can handle a V8 then this is the V12!

Well done Shane! I thought the Slash was impressive too, I never demoed that one👍🏻
Thanks, Andy! I really dig that one as well. I hope you are doing well mate :-)
I'm switching from the Dimebag to the Slash red wah pedal. It does have a tight middle frecuency, I loved it.

Thanks to this vid, I bought the Bonamassa wah. I've not yet heard any of his songs, but the wah is incredible!
Awesome effort Shane. Really appreciate the amount of work that must have gone into this video. A great buyers guide for Cry Baby wahs.
John Petrucci's signature JP95 cry baby wah just beats it all, whatever John puts out is just out of this world!!
For me best are the 95F and the 95Q for the clean and the Gary Clark and still the 95Q for the distortion. Thank you!!
The slash models sounds awesome, thanks for that
