Needed help what brand of gutair should I buy for 80s rock and amp and what wah pedal is the best that I could adford
The 24 carat gold one is your best option for that sound i think
Ditto 😂
"They've sold something like 5 million of these." And that's just to Kirk Hammett
For 1 gig
😂
😂
😂
kirk has killer skills but i miss the pre wha days. should be sprinkled in the songs instead of smothering them in wha
Fun fact: SRV had Hendrix’s old wah. Jimmie Vaughan played a gig with Hendrix and he gave it to him and then he gave it to Stevie.
I was gonna say BS but you're right. cool ass story
Where is it now?
Kirk Hammett
Nope. Jimmie Vaughan gave his wah wah to Hendrix actually, because Hendrix's was broken. His band warmed up for Hendrix. He never saw the wah again. But Stevie may have had one of Hendrix's wah's later on..
Wah
After a while during the movie clip I forgot I was watching Andertons lol. Was shocked as fuck when Lee and Pete showed up again!
Oh no. Alzheimers around the corner
I may or may not have been partaking in a chemical that affects short term memory. I can't really remember.
i was disappointed as well
Same!
me too....I lost track I was so amazed, not at all disappointed
Anyone else remember when Bea spent ages in a Sounds Like Video wondering why he couldn't get a useable tone out of his rig, and it's because he left the wah on? (Edit - Sounds Like Alice In Chains)
...and this is why I'd prefer a wah with an LED indicator - and they are like hen's teeth. Every effect pedal has an LED indicator - except for wahs... really annoying.
Andy Crane been there...
Which sounds like was that
Sounds like Alice In Chains
I actually just did that the other day... I'll definitely be modding mine soon to add an LED!
plugs into a bass wah
"It's really bassy"
who woulda thunk
Who woulda thump
@@Moto_737 lol
I'd just like to say that recently I've started buying all I need for my music from Andertons and I really like everything you have lovely staff and quick to send things out and you have anything I could possibly need so thanks your fab and I really enjoy listening to the captain your so much better than you believe...
someone please plug a miku into a wah, would it even work?
Remi Rene Everything's better with miku.
It would probably start crying in Japanese
i dont want to laugh till loosing my ribs, i've just hurted my ab in the last video before this
It would be a very vocal wah then...
someone should mod a miku into a wha
First time using wah. Just bought a Behringer Hellbabe. Of the best experiences of using any guitar pedal, this is one so far :) love these wahs !
The jerry cantrell wah and John Petrucci wah will forever be my favorites.
I have the Jerry Cantrell signature wah and love it! It sounds really dark and raspy and has a really unique sound compared to other wahs I’ve used
I love the darker range of the Cantrell wahs, I actually bought 3 during lockdown and gave one to.a good buddy who loves Alice In Chains. Love the crybaby from hell as well, I may have a wah problem lolol
12:30 Pete, the best "cocked wah" example for me is hands-down Mick Ronson's work with David Bowie. The intro to Ziggy Stardust is just magic, and there's no other way to get *that* sound. I think he also used it for Rebel Rebel and a bunch of other Bowie tracks in the early 70s, just to push the mids of the guitar in the mix. It's a huge part of the sound of that era of Bowie.
Zappa did it as well. But Mick Ronson is definitely the most notable
Vox V847 is what's been on my board for almost 15 years. It's been modded for true bypass and to fix the volume loss associated with that. Seems like something else too but I don't remember lol it's a great pedal though!!
I purchased the Slash signature wah from Anderton's a couple of years ago but opted for the SC95 Classic version which doesn't have the distortion circuit and it runs at standard 9v. It's awesome.
Great idea for a video! Thank you. Nice when you guys make videos that are only partly to sell gear, but also inform and entertain.
I have an early 1970's Jen Crybaby Wah with the green Fasel which I've had for years but only recently dug it out.. Sounds incredible through my HH
27:58 pete didn't realise there was no tremolo system
if you believe its there, its there
Pete's playing always amazes me
Kirk got upset that you didn't showcase his wah.
But now, he plans to grab a stool and run two together for the sandman solo.
Love my 535q, great to get different sweeps etc. with different guitars, especially when I am switching from as low as drop B and baritones all the way to back to standard. Its like having 100 different wahs in 1.
Just bought the mini version!! Every search I made, the 535q is up there with the best, if not the best wah on the market. Red fasel, adjustable q and volume boost with led, that's all I could ever ask for!!
when I lived in uk my mate "phil the goth" worked in an electroplating factory and plated my 82" cry baby with 5-7 layers of 24k gold...I still have it...cheers "phil" !!!. however I prefer my "morley" cos it doubles as a volume pedal !!!.
Nic White fair play a 82 inch wah pedal is huge.
Charlie ...it's not the size matey...it's how you use it !!!
hold on, the guy who invented the wah is still kickin'? how have we, the collective guitarists, not made him a billionaire by now???
Welcome to our capitalist unfair system

@@vapordruidHurts how stupid people are who will defend a system that doesn't and will never work for them. Licking billionaire boot has never gotten anyone anywhere.
Ronson was one of the legendary cocked wah users
Krish Patel yes yes and yes. A criminally underrated guitarist
oh man he is just a legendary player! Love his guitar tones and his solos.
So true, love how he used the wah like a equalizer.
Michael Schenker has used the 'cocked wah' as part of his signature sound for decades, at least ten years before 'Money For Nothing.'
Nice video guys... It's always nice to hear pedals one after another like this. 😝
Nothing brings me joy in life like Pete getting funky with a wah wah
Wah my guitar gently weeps
Ha , wah my guitar gently Sweeps.
Underrated comments 😂
The Bass was is awesome for high gain and low tunnings. I love it!
No wonder why I love u guys! Y’all have a JM photo in the back. Kudos 🤙🏼
Nice work at the end there, Joss. It was a good contrast to the funk and blues that Pete and Lee had been playing.
Wow, Doug Doppler! I'm a big fan of his effect too.
Quality video as always 👌
Yes an updated wah video! I need a new one really bad. I have a limited edition goldburst crybaby standard, and I’m thinking of ripping the guts out of a new one and installing it in my current wahs shell
Hey guys sold my wahs haven’t had one for a while, thinking about buying one again and can across your great video.
Funny how you picked those 2 signature wahs because I’ve had both and here’s my issue.
Jimi Hendrix Signature JH-1 wah
Pros: absolute favorite wah I’ve owned
Cons: not enough options/versatility
Slash signature
Pros: it’s Slash’s signature lol
Cons: WAY too loud
I want something that’s a little customizable but I love the simplicity of the JH1 I just wish it had an option to switch to a broader sweep range.
Anyway I’ll finish the video now! Great work!
Zappa loved the cocked wah thing. It gives you a nice almost feedbacky thing.
Joss with losing my mind from zakk wylde at the end was quite a nice outro
1) Wah pedals do not sweep the Q. It sweeps the center frequency of the band-pass filter.
2) The sound has a resonant peak around the upper range of the cut-off frequency, which gives it the "notched" sound that you can't replicate with the tone knob.
3) The tone control on a guitar is also not a band-pass filter, but a low-pass filter.
Yi Wen yeah, a pedal that swept the Q would sound very odd.
out of all the wah pedals my favorite is the EVH signature wah cos it's got a very big sweep range and it's got my kind of sound even though it didn't make it into this video
Michael Schenker of U.F.O. also uses a cocked Wah sound quite frequently for solos/melodies.
My fav wah is the Ibanez WD-7 Weeping Demon wah.... Super versatile wah
Would sticking one of the older ones at the beginning of your chain affect the tones on more modern pedals? Just how good is the bypass?
Having that video in the beginning was cool
I love me some wah. I think I've owned more wah pedals than any other type of pedal, though that's not saying much since I've never had a massive amount of pedals. I've had the standard Crybaby, the Crybaby 535, and now the 535Q. Interestingly, the 535 doesn't have a Q control but does have on/off lights for the wah and the boost. In contrast, the 535Q has the Q but no on/off lights.
A song that comes to mind is Anti Gravity (summer romance) by Incubus, its a really cool intro in my opinion.
I must say I do prefer the coloursound wah with the larger physical sweep. But George dennis wah pedals are also pretty good and amazing for clean wah tones. It's a shame Andersons don't stock some George dennis pedals.
Awsome Clip! Thanks for sharing.
I have my original 1990 Crybaby, one i modded with true byoass, led, vocal & volume mod but my go to is the 535 Q on mode 3. Awesome pedal.
Eric Clapton playing Tales of Brave Ulysses with Cream one of the first recordings of a Wah pedal and still sounds fantastic.
the captain could not resist adding that chorus line to 24k magic. i can just picture him screaming along to that alone in his car, *HEAD TO TOE SO PLAYAAAAA*
Can anyone help me out, please. I’m planning to buy a wah wah pedal and wonder whether I can put it before headrush gigboard, that is guitar -> wah -> headrush. Headrush has an expression pedal interface, but I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to buy a simple expression pedal or better buy a stand alone wah pedal and put it before headrush. Please, help...
Frank Zappa used a lot of cocked wah guitar tones. Legend is also that Zappa actually introduced Hendrix to the wah pedal.
Don Karnage it was Jeff Beck that did it I think
as a drummer and a guitar player, that double wah would be so cool
*Kirk Hammett Intensifies*
After Pete’s solo on the slash pedal he was so happy about it and then he seems to get sad when Lee didn’t even acknowledge it and brought up Chapman. He started biting his lip and put his hand on his face and slouched his shoulders a little:(
Yeh, Pete’s input is always so damn special and he’s an amazing guitarist. Lee brings up Chapman and puts a downer on the piece.
Very bad show Lee.
Ive noticed the same
I have a Fuzz Wah and a regular Wah from Dunlop....classic pedal!
I bought my first pedal today for my bday, its a cry baby wah and i love it
Pretty sure I’ve read that when Jimmy Page was recording the solo for Whole Lotta Love he set a wah-wah pedal fully forward to get that really trebly sound.
He is known for that, specially communication breakdown I think
Why did my did my dad come in my room when the video started playing??? He ask what am I watching. I said guitar videos .
Jakon Bakon
I laughed
Hahaha I’m not watching 70’s poem dad I promise hahahahahah
My late father burst into my room when I was listening to the early AcDc live album If you want blood when The Jack was on and told me to get that filth off immediately my face still goes red thinking about it man I miss my dad
Trumpet player here- wah is most like Plunger mute, the actual mute used for this effect- Cup is stationary in the bell and does sound old school. Just figured I'd point that out :)
I really like that Clyde trumpet one 👌🏻
ive read that jimi hendrix favorite wah was the late 60s square tdk inductor model. i can say out of my 10 or so vintage wah pedals its my favorite as well
Nice playing pete
Setting the wah to a certain sweet spot is essential to me - that's why I only use a cry baby with a on/off switch. To answer your "question" - in Bulls On Parade, one of the most famous songs featuring a wah-wah pedal, Tom Morello is actually using a sweet spot for the whole verse section =]
#StaySafe
Love the show with you two!
Fascinating video. I like the simplicity of the GCB-95 myself, plus I'm skint. Lol BTW, one Crybaby User that you missed was Yngwie! I'm amazed he's not got a signature Dunlop wah! (has he?)
I was so not expecting to hear a mark knoffler riff out of nowhere xD
he didnt even use a wah. its a les paul with tone rolled off
Guth through a wah, which he has said on every video about the song
Me neither 😂
Perhaps anyone of you good people can advise on an issue I've been having with one of these. Just bought the 535Q, tried it out, worked perfectly fine. Then tried it again a day later and for some reason, when it's not engaged, it completely cuts the signal to the amp so can't hear anything and when it's engaged, the signal is turned on but it won't wah at all, tried the various knobs but nothing works. Any ideas?
Off the top of my head, a couple more examples of the cocked wah sound would be Edwin Collins-Girl Like You, and Sound Garden-Rusty Cage.
FYI, check out the two Slash's Snakepit albums, It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere and Ain't Life Grand, if you want to find some of Slash's wah work.
I’m so glad Jose played at the end
I like the Morley step on step off switchless Wah... so easy to use
This reminds me that the regular Crybaby works just fine!
I have too many wahs in my small collection including a Jim Dunlop Customshop RackWah pre production model that I love to play with when my rack gear is out :D
Tremonti used a wah stuck in place for the clean sound in 'With Arms Wide Open' I believe.
Okay, what amp and pickups is Pete using? Are there any other pedals on?
Live, Slash had his wah set in one position for a solo and it melted faces.
Billy Duffy from The Cult had a Limited edition Dunlop Cry Baby. I know Ive got one. Sounds killer, its got the Morley style on/off switch.
What model of guitar is that? (The Gilmour looking one)
Thank god the Mini Wahs came out, I have big ass feet and can't use the minis, but everyone is selling their full size ones cheap now!! hahahaha
The DeArmond 610 volume/tone pedal was on the scene way before Vox. Very similar to a wah pedal but passive and had side to side movement as well as forward rocking movement. If you were nifty on your toes it would produce a mild wah sound. I think Vic Flick from the John Barry 7 used one back in 1960 - lent to the square one, y'know the one with a red guitar?
The Captains hand gestures at the start are hilarious!
The intro to Mr. brownstone is what that’s used for.Check out the live mr brownstone song with Myles Kennedy, badass!!
Ronno did that 'cocked' wah setting decades before 'Money For Nothing' - check out 'Ziggy Stardust' or in fact any of the other tracks he recorded with Bowie.
In fact I don't ever recall him using it in the traditional sense.
And of course Zappa was a huge proponent of that technique.
The Jerry Cantrell signature is my favourite. It's a shame that you guys don't have it in stock, I had to get it from another store :(
I actually bought three (3!) of these during the lockdowns, gave one away to my buddy who loved Alice In Chains. One stays on my home rig and one lives in its box lol. Also have Dimebag model and love them all. How many is too many?
Great stuff. Thanks
Pride and Glory - Losin Your Mind riff at the end............. Nice.
Mick Ronson's work with Ziggy Era Bowie was all about the cocked wah.
I have have a GCB 95 and wonder why it seemed to be on all the time .thought there must be a way to disengage it . Found out it was the felt pad that presses down on the switch had flattened out . I replaced it and it works ok now . But sometimes when i am using it it accidently shut it off by pressing down to far by mistake. Which is easy to do.
Unrelated to this particular video but I have a request for a fun one.... would you be able to test the Miku with the Digitech Whammy? I would love to hear that voice going up and down an octave. Preferably with a nice delay to get that "Marooned" Gilmour style but with the Miku 'tone' or 'voice' or whatever one might call it. Thanks!
The Wah is just ONE of the accomplishments Brad is proud of.
Why don't you stock the jerry cantrell wah
What guitar is that on the rightmost side of the left rack? I think I have one
Nice little Explorer Lee! Heck of a watch.
Great video. Many thanks :)
"Shaft!"
-Pete
😂 😂 😂
Pete is really a good guitarist..like he plays his own stuff rather than popular guitarists stuffs..which is a real thing....but when Pete hit a note when he engaged the distortion of the wah....that was the pentatonic note of the solo in sweet child o mine.... but you guys can invite Joss or Rob or Rabea for some slash wah stuff....slash played a lot of things by his wah....
Great content!!
Whilst living in San Diego, I purchased a DBD Cry Babay From Hell, from a guy on Craig's List, for $20!
I also own a Vox V846, and owned a Cry Baby that I purchased in 1992 that doubled as a volume pedal when the wah was disengaged. I have no idea what model number that was. I wish I did, because I'd like to find another to buy.
29:12 Right before Pete said this I realized I had been unconsciously moving my mouth for several minutes.
13:14 I believe the Whole Lotta Love solo has the wah in the open position.
