Most bands “hey check out this riff, we should write a song”.
Dave Mustaine. “I have 5 new riffs, I hope it’s enough for one song”.
Great quote.
Fun act about this song. Once a riff has been played, they don’t reuse it. Every riff is unique.
This song is just mean and dirty… and I LOVE it!!
You couldn't be more right!! 🤘
I mean that last solo especially.. I e heard it a million times still gives me goosebumps, perfect example of jazz in their music, fucking love it! ]v[egadeth]-[ for life!
Megadeth are the greatest metal band in my opinion, the amount of riffs per song are unbelievable n the progy elements u touched on are why I love them also
Two of the musicians in the band, were jazz players, Gar Samuelson (drums), and Chris Poland (Lead guitar and rhythm). So they helped with Dave’s intuitive riffing and playing, and ever changing key patterns.
If Dave could have kept that original lineup together there would have been no doubt who the greatest metal band would have been
This song never gets old, seems the more you hear it the more you want to hear it 🤘
You should check out “in my darkest hour”
It was an amazing time. I was there and it was awesome. No other time in history would I want to have been born, seeing the birth and rise of Thrash Metal in my youth.
It was us against the world and the adults were terrified!
The riff that starts at 2:45 is was sparked my will to really dive into metal back in 2011, discover new metal bands and music and explore my taste in metal. I was only intrigued until then but not enough to persue anything. Perfect, solid and ideal headbanging riff. Tone, character, tempo, drum beat. Everything.
Basically the riff the grabbed me by the collar, slapped me in the face the looked me dead in the eyes and said "Ey meathead! You like this, you want more of this. So wake the fuck up and do something about it. This is your shit, got that punk?" xD
my exact experience but with riff at 4:22
You should check out The Conjuring from this same album. Amazing riffs and transitions
This is Megadeth´s best record, fact.
Thrash metal perfection, yes.
Ashes in your mouth should be the next Megadeth song you listen to!
This songs amazing and maybe the only one ive heard constructed in such a way. They literally wrote it to where you hear a riff but they dont ever come back to it in the song. Just switch up after switch up. Pretty amazing!
You are correct it was an amazing time! I have always wished I could take people of todays time period back to those days with me to relish in it with us that were growing up then. Where is our time machine 🙏 \m/
Hoping for a reaction to "The Conjuring" and "My Last Words", my two favorite Megadeth tracks.
The conjuring is so fire
'My Last Word' is hugely underrated. One of Dave's best solos.
My 1st time seeing Megadeth was 1986 at a small club in Boston
So happy you are listening to some Megadeth. Saw them live in 2016. I have been a massive fan for over 30 years. Keep enjoying it and stay awesome!
The next track on the album is "The Conjuring". IT is a must listen for new Megadeth fan. Classic......
This album cover is so badass
a big part of the sound from this album was gar samuelson because he came in with his jazz background and had all this wisdom that he brought into the music, he taught megadeth how to swing, he is a very important part of all of it man, RIP Gar!
You have to listen to The Conjuring by Megadeth. Off the same album. There’s this riff in the middle that’s just the best and hardest riff.
That riff is prolly my favorite riff in metal ever.
Dave was unsure of his vocals for the first couple albums. That’s why there’s a lot of instrumentation and almost spoken word. I’ve always thought his vocals were fantastic. Check out “Sweating Bullets.”
Best jazz band in all of metal.
Megadeth will always be ahead of Metallica in my mind. Partly because guitarist Chris Poland and the drummer Gar Samuelson were both born in my hometown.
This really is progressive, you're absolutely right. This is a song where none of the parts gets repeated again, so there are no verses and no choruses, every single transition in this song is a new riff that you didn't hear before. Yes, Jinjer and Opeth and some other bands have done song structures like this too but they don't come even close to being as freaking catchy as this one. The fact that I listened to this song a hundred times before even noticing it's strange structure says it all. They call all things progressive these days and I just wonder why the heck this and Justice for All for example don't count as progressive metal and something like Operation Mindcrime does based of it's lyrical concept. The whole album is amazing. And I love that Dave's lyrics are almost always very political and he had the guts to open this album with lyrics like these. You should check out the second and third track from this album too. Most bands would go and write two albums with the killer riffs featured only in these three songs.
3:09 is a Dave riff thats also in the metallica song Ride the Lightning
3:40 - 3:47 is Chris Poland . All the other solos are Mustaine
The entire cd is fire
I still have the cassette🤫🤭
The Conjuring, My Last Words, Tornado of Souls, and Ashes in your Mouth!
I love the version Dave Mustaine did with Lamb of God.
Happy you reacted to this but it came out in 1986 not 87
Megadeth - Ashes In Your Mouth next! 🥹
You need to do good morning/Black Friday by them
A top 5 classic Megadeth track.
Good Morning / Black Firday is in my top 5. Yea, do that one! 🎸
Good insightful reaction btw, cheers
I recommend listening to "Looking down the cross". It is an amazing song with twists and turns, really great stuff.
Well you can take a ride into Power Metal with a bands like
Iced Earth - I Died For You, Melancholy, Burning Times, Ten Thousand Strong(Tim Ripper singer), Dystopia(Stu Block singer)
Nevermore - Believe In Nothing, River Dragon Has Come
i loved this video and your commentary my first video of yours i see got recommended to me and really liked it mate
You should react to good mourning/black friday. Even more transitions than wake up dead. Absolutely epic!
You're right on point! Great reaction!
you should give a listen to "Surprise, you're dead" by Faith no More.
Songs to check out by them would be:
Hangar 18
Tornado of souls
A tout le monde
More megadeth please
Check out The Conjuring and Good Mourning/Black Friday, they're my two favorite Megadeth songs. Killer riffs and breakdowns, they're both from the same album as this song. Also the drummer was Gar Samuelson, he was with them for their first two albums. Great fucking drummer, prolly the most underrated in metal!
classic metal
Peace sells is a banger
Love this song but you need to check out The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Iron Maiden. They took the poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge and turned it into a truly epic metal song, and I know how much you like it when bands do stuff like that 😁🤘
early Megadeth is pretty jazz influenced. mainly thanks to Gar Samuelson and Chris Poland, who were instrumental in forming the Megadeth "Jazz/Thrash" sound. Mustaine plays in an aggressive pentatonic fashion and the quintessential "Megadeth sound" is a combination of Mustaines style and someone who can jump in and out of pentatonic and harmonic minor with a jazzy flair. this is why as a younger man i was bummed when virtuoso Marty Friedman left, because he knew how to navigate the ideal "Megadeth sound". Unfourtunately Friedman was too much of a Weeb and Mustaine is more piss, vinegar, and ego now than man. I think the two are still on good terms though.
You should check out The Conjuring
(The original studio version)
Nice reaction! I think you should check out good mourning / black Friday from the same album. Its once again a banger thats rich with switch ups and solos.
The riff at 2:38 is so damn sexy and sick. If you like music you can’t help but get pulled in by that.
Mad ironic I stumbled across u a few days after I was telling people that Dylan was the original M.C. Then u popped back up doin Fleetwood Mac which is dope rip Christy McV... Check out MOP song title Follow Instructions
Some more megadeth songs you should to listen to:
In My Darkest Hour, its a tribute to Metallica's original bassist Cliff Burton, who sadly passed away.
Take No Prisoners, a song about the effects war has on a soldier.
Peace Sells, Title track for the album Wake Up Dead is on.
Tornado Of Souls, Contains one, if not the best guitar solo in metal music history. Its another song about Dave's Ex-Girlfriend Diana.
Megadeth! Megadeth! Megadeth!
‘Dialectic Chaos-This Day We Fight” off Endgame! Better than ANYTHING Metallica ever even WISHED they could write 👍🏾🔥
It came out in '86
need to listen to 1986 version not the remastered one, also big appreciation for gar samuelson the drummer, he is incredible
I like to get in an argument with my niece about "waking up dead". She tells me that's not possible but I just shake my head. Great way to rustle some jimmies.
The lamb of god/megadeth version of this song made me like this song more
My favorite song from them.
Megadeth is MegaThrash. Guitar Supremacy.
RIP GAR WAS A JAZ DRUMMER
For new MD fans: if the solo sounds like it’s from a futuristic Eastern culture, Marty’s playing. If it sounds like an air raid, it’s Dave 😂.
this is chris poland. not marty
I got a good one. Can ya cameo his appearance on the drew carry show? Sure it's nothing spectacular, just a funny skit he did with em
Well….frenetic metal is not my bag, BUT, that guitar is just wonderfully filthy.
One of my favorites. Curious to know from what youve heard of the two bands so far, who do you have a preference for?
ManOwaR - Spirit Horse Of The Cherokee
Do Good mourning black Friday next off Peace sells
RIP CAR
Hey man, react to Sepultura - Desperate cry, it's a brazillian metal band
Or DEAD EMBRYONIC CELLS ....one of the best breakdown in a metal song ever👍
I don't care what excuse Dave offers, he straight up stole that last riff from the Scorpions "Sails of Charon".
Speaking of the drummer (Gar Samuelson RIP), you should check out the vid of their current drummer (Dirk Verbeuren) playing performing on this song. It’s amazing, here’s the link ua-cam.com/video/HpZdIFbKqSY/v-deo.html
You should react to some more pantera soon
you should listen to the original versions of their songs, the remasters really make the songs lose a lot of the ambience and their overall original sound and in some songs mustaine even had to record new vocals cause he couldn’t find the original tracks.
listen to killing is my business and business is good raw not the remaster
Make sure to listen to the original tracks and not the remasters! Night and day difference.
dave mustaine is a killer guitar player and genius song/riff/solo writer.
want a prove?
check this one out: She wolf from Rude Awakening Live. watch video not audio only.
be careful with your jaw hit the floor !
\m/
When you are ready for the real brutal trash metal you should react to Sodom and Kreator
People of the lie is my fav from Kreator
So for this track you've picked arguably the second best Thrash album ever...again a top 5 Thrash track! Everything else sounds inferior after listening to this stuff... great reaction!
released in 1986 not 87
one advise I would give to you is to listen megadeth's original mixes and not remasters
broooo please react to tornado of souls
Listen to more Black Sabbath trust me
Metallica's best songs were all Written by Dave Mustaine. Megadeth will always be superior to Metallica. Hangar 18 is personally their best song, Tornado of souls is also another technical masterpiece
These remixed versions are so unnecessary 🙄
This and So far so good so what album. There is a rawness that you don't get once the subsequent digitized albums were released. But RIP is of course a masterpiece as well. The new stuff I do not like after he had his neck operated on through his throat, then throat cancer as well ruined his voice. But I've been a fan since 87.
