    Samantha, she is cleaning the brass cases left over from firing their ammo cartridges during shooting. The device is a tumbler with cleaning media like crushed walnut shells to remove the powder residue, so those brass cases can be reused. The cleaned cases are ready for the reloading process to make reloaded ammunition.

      Surprisingly this movie has probably the most accurate gun usage of any movie I’ve seen. Little things like Burt checking the revolver after he gets it back from Melvin (even though he knows it’s empty it is proper to check it anyway), or Burt’s comment about Hydra-Shok hollow points really make it enjoyable.

    I really do think this should be taught in film schools. It hits that perfect balance between action, characters, and storytelling. We know just enough about these characters to be invested in their survival without having to rely on stereotypes or quirks to inform the characters. They are well rounded and not just there to be victims, the movie has one of the highest survival rates of most monster movies. The action is so well paced and well executed and nothing drags on too long. And the script and the story has no fat on it, no tangents or improved scenes that they had to fit together later, everything that happens is set up and paid off. And for me personally I don't live anywhere as remote as Perfection, but I do live in a rural area and it is so refreshing to see rural people not portrayed as bumpkins and buffoons. They may not be the smartest people but they can problem solve and think on their feet and adjust when things go wrong.

    • @Syfa
      @Syfa 2 роки тому +43

      It was also a fairly cheaply made movie. They shot it in a cheap location. Almost all of their effects were practical and they didn't need to have the monsters on screen with the characters a lot aside from a few set pieces. It is essentially a "how to" on filmmaking and especially a "how to" on 'horror', which are fairly cheap by themselves.

      I agree wholeheartedly. It's a very lean and efficient film with not a wasted moment, and sharply done in practically all aspects. And indeed practically no silly tropes or ridiculous characters or any of that. In fact, I'd call this one of those quite rare films that plays dumb but is actually quite smart.

    "Tremors" is one of the GREATEST B- movies of all time! And I mean that.
    It was never any kind of a blockbuster, and when it came out, the responses to it were pretty underwhelming. I can't imagine it made much money in the theatres. But over time, "Tremors" has just kind of... grown its' own fanbase. Like a fine wine, "Tremors" has pretty much aged outstandingly. It wasn't very highly thought of when it was first brewed, but the older it gets, the more it seems to appeal to people.

      The actual story behind this movie according to DVD commentary: The writer would take lunch breaks out in the desert while working in town. During one particularly boring day as his break was winding down he wondered, "What if there was something down on the ground that would prevent me from going back to work". After a few more months Graboids were born.

      There's some really nice realistic touches in this film too, like showing the main characters eating a meal when they get back to town, since they spent all night on that boulder. Of course they would be hungry, but some movies wouldn't bother to put a small detail like that in there.

His character in that show, Steven Keaton, is a left-leaning peace-love-dope ex-hippie, the polar opposite of Burt Gummer- which made Michael Gross’ character that much more funny.

    She's cleaning spent brass casings. They're survivalist types, so they reload ammo for their guns. When you go shooting, you collect your used casings, clean them and reload them with custom bullets and powder charge. This allows you to make ammo that's more powerful than commercially available ammo. Or to recycle casing for expensive ammo, cutting your costs to shoot. Reloading used to be a lot more common in the 1980's/90s. After the fall of the Soviet Union, cheap ammo imports from former Eastern Bloc nations helped drive down the cost of ammunition, so reloading became less common.
