I've always liked Hammond. Guy's just got great comic timing.
I think that is why Hammond, Clarkson and May made Top Gear special at times. Clarkson the outspoken one, May the sensible one and Hammond the daft/annoying one. When I say annoying I mean to the other two to us watching it was funny.

One of the reasons why Hammond was always my favourite once I properly got into top gear is that he was always positive and he never really got angry or lost his temper and I’m starting to think it may have been because of that crash, and those trees

He has been struggling for a long time after that accident, in some ways he's not even the person he used to be. Then there's the crash he had with the Rimak, and although he escaped with relatively minor injuries from that, it was another close call.
