Richard Hammond REACTS to all his crashes

- It's been a running joke that Richard Hammond has had quite a few crashes over the years. We sat him down to watch a crash compilation and even he was surprised by how many there have been.

It's safe to say there's a tier of auto insurance risk assessment named Hammond.
probably safer than having it, imagine getting the final crash on the bingo segment
There is a meeting room at Rimac called Richard Hammond
@@RedBatRacing That doesn't sound like a room you want to be invited into by your boss, if you were a Rimac employee.
"Come and see me in the HAMMOND room!" "Oh, no, what have I done wrong?"
I have that coverage!
Id love to see what he has to pay for insurance. Lol
The fact that this vid is under 15 minutes is somewhat of a miracle
Remember these are only the crashes that we know of😂
I'll bet he even does it in his sleep!
he said its like barely 2% of his crashes on tv
u are speedy on f1
Was about to say the same.
It's a miracle Richard is still with us. Something must truly be looking out for him to make sure he stays around.
Let's be honest, when the trio disappears, it will just feel so empty.
big motor.
@@soly-dp-colo6388apart from my own family I think they’d be the people I’d immortalise tbf
@@britishgaming290 more like
Looking out for him? Something out there has tried, and failed, many times to get Hammond.
Despite the fact he’s been in the most accidents, he’s the most active member of the Top Gear trio and managed to age well.
Well considering Jeremy’s diet consists of pies, cigarettes, roadkill and excess amounts of beer and that James is just James, he doesn’t have very hard competition
Hamster is also significantly younger than the other 2.
Will be turning 38 again this year for the 16th time.
Well also the only one to exercise regularly from what I recall.
@@danh6720 I thought James did cycling regularly.
@@DarkThunderism That's Hammond, actually. He's even put his bike and body on the line by trying to bike a few of the Top Gear challenges back in the day.
"HAMMOND YOU IDIOT! YOUVE REVERSED INTO THE SPORTS LORRY!!" has got to be one of my favorite lines from both Top Gear and TGT. How Hammond just laughs and drives away makes it all the better 😂😂
don't just drive off Hammond! Hammond? HAMMOND!!
It’s broken. You’ve broken it.
“I mean, I didn’t know. Genuine, it was an accident!”
Don’t just drive off, Hammond! Hammond!! HAMMOND!
One of my favourite specials, the fact Jeremy thought everything was drugs. I really like when they deck out their vehicles, adds their personalities into them.
"the sports lorry"
@@Stroke999 YES I REMEMBER THAT
my favourite bit was Richard saying "are you gonna cut it with peas" while referencing the "drugs" Jeremy had that was actually rice and James bursting into laughter 😂
It's a bit disturbing how instantly you can see the change on his face when he realizes he's watching the RIMAC crash - you can tell that he's briefly reliving a genuine near-death experience
yeah, notable by it's absence is the rocket car; that's been scrubbed as best as possible from the world
@@Hevlikn I understand why they try to scrub that episode. The boys also did "roadworks" which is my all time favorite besides maybe Top Ground Gear Force
@@Hevlikn the three of them (Hammond, Clarkson and May) had a very brief conversation about the Vampire rocket car crash when Hammond returned to Top Gear and they vowed to never speak of it ever again because it'd changed Hammond so much - emotionally and physically. I imagine the guys who put this video in front of him took steps to make sure he didn't need to watch it again.
It's practically a miracle that he didn't die that day, or at the very least be left with severe brain damage.
timestamp?
@@Unbreakify 3:39, there you go buddy
The fact he doesn't remember them all is a priceless statement to how Richard Hammond will be Captain Crasher forever.
I feel like it's a bad sign that I remember more context from watching some of them on television than he does from being there (perfect car for a teenage boy, for ex)
@@GSMachinistya he has had a lot of brain trauma
This man, is clearly invincible. He's been in so many crashes and accidents, some serious and some not so serious and yet he keeps coming back doing what he loves. Richard Hammond is a legend
I honestly worry for him when he gets older. Dementia and other neuro degenerative diseases must be a concern
@@Jwm367t yeah cte is no doubt a big risk for him
We need a 2 hour-long video of him just chatting about various specials and the memories from them
I think the 3 should come together once every week or month and make a video or podcast similar to conversation street.
@@Max1musPr1me99 that would be amazing
that would be brilliant !
They should have a podcast where they rewatch episodes and tell us what was happening behind the scenes.
The grand tour guys don't like talking about the top gear years. Or maybe Jeff BzS. doesn't want that.
I appreciate Richard reacting to his career in crashing vehicles (and occasionally speaking to a camera). I was half expecting to see THE crash, I'm happy we didn't.
What is the crash?😅
he kind of already reacted to it in another video where he started it again
That was my first thought when i saw the title; oh no! I’m relieved to know that it wasn’t included. He doesnt need to relive that on camera
@@Delta132 Richard sat in the rebuilt drag car, but one of his Drivetribe colleagues started it. I'm sure he still has nightmares about that crash.
Same here to be honest, that one was not funny. That was almost lethal.
“HAMMOND, YOU IDIOT, YOU’VE REVERSED INTO THE SPORTS LORRY!!!!” No matter how many times I watch it, that clip always makes me laugh.
1:02 "Hammond just crashed, didn't he....ANYWAY!" Oh no! Anyway! 2: Electric Boogaloo. In other words for this, Hammond is the human equivalent of a cat with nine lives. The mere fact Richard can remember all of these crashes is amazing in itself. The fact he still has all his limbs (with added metal) is even more amazing, but Richard still being the Richard we all fell in love with on Top Gear is the best bit of all. Truly the "Tis but a scratch" of the crew! The enjoyment he has of all the moments that weren't detrimental is above and beyond worth the injuries, I believe. He’s had an unreal career...what a life!
I love how every crash brings back looooads of memories instantly. He's genuinely never watched most of these back. I can understand why. He's really suffered the most out of the three by a long way. Brave man Mr. Hammond is, can't thank him enough for continuing making content for us fans to enjoy!
I remember somebody once mentioned that Richard Hammond would be the guy who'd willingly do something dangerous once, if it added to the entertainment of the show.
How has he suffered the most?
I'm surprised he hasn't broken his neck more than thrice after so many decades.
May has had come pretty major incidents as well (serious concussion when they were in the desert once... Got a feeling there was another time with bad head trauma, the most recent Grand Tour special)... Nothing like life changing like the drag racer crash, but yeah Clarkson is the only one who has come out of it all relatively unscathed!
@@volrath__ Yeah, the scandi grand tour he went into a wall at about 70mph
The amount of big crashes this one small man can survive is insane
for me he is and ever will be the mighty hamster
Smaller people are simply more robust. Just look at what little kids can withstand without breaking a bone, lol.
Lower center of gravity.
being small was the thing that saved him lol
Bro was small enough to ankle break death
I’d watch hours of Richard, James and Jeremy talking about their memories of previous specials and adventures
Richard and hammond is same guy u mean clarkson
Can we take a moment to appreciate how down to earth hammond is in this video? he seems way more calm than he did in the series. I low key wanna hang out with him he seems like he has some wonderful stories.
Would love to chat with him over a bottle of gin
I mean they ARE on TV so I'm sure some of it is them just purposely exaggerating their personalities
How this guy is still alive is a minor miracle.
Minor? Lol.
is 'minor' a keyword? haha
He has 9 lives that's why
I really did want to hear him talk about his injuries after the major crash - I know it’s been spoken about almost to the point of no return , but to say that he’s still walking and talking - is a miracle in of its self ❤
Yeah, that is what I thought this was going to be about.
He & his wife wrote a book about it - get the audiobook.
yeah, disappointing that they cut him off :(
@@BlackDiamondYoutubhe cut himself off.
The book was incredibly moving and so worth the read - 100% recommend.
4:51 Well, Hamster, we're here watching crashes you were in, you talking about what happened, and how you are coping with the crashes afterwards, is exactly the reason we are here. Spill it man.
Hearing Hammond talk about his crashes (especially the early ones) is like listening to a dad talk about when he was younger. Also love how he goes from “Hammond” to “dad Hammond” the instant his glasses come on. It’s like he’s a different person.
No matter what anyone says, you are in fact a professional stunt driver.
And a professional stunt survivor
@@chronorust3359and professional car wrecker
@@hanz_the_F22 he probably lives in Australia
You gotta love this man for being so humorous about something potentially life threatining stunts he did on camera for our entertainment.
More of this thank you on the other hand!
He’s not as humorous as Frankie Boyle was about one of his crashes on Mock the week.
Even more so that most of those crashes weren't meant to happen, unlike actual stunts that simulate crashes and other traumatic things. A lot of these were genuine accidents that could have killed or severely maimed him.
"i dont trust anything that isnt nessicarilly where it was when you last parked it" will always be my favorite line. it was a blessing to hear it again.
Given the number of times we've had to go fetch our pontoon or floating dock from someone else's shoreline after a bad storm, he's right to not trust them.
You three make the perfect trio. It's magic, the way you all highlight each other.
Thank you for all of the great experiences you have shared with us!
Thanks for reacting to it! And yes, theres a lot of clips I missed which of course I realized after uploading the video
If anyone wants to know which episode certain clips are from I'm happy to answer
One at 4:32 was a Suzuki Super Carry not a Hiace!
I really cannot remember what season was the RC cars.
I tink there should be a compilation of ALL Hammond's crashes. And as May suggested it should be called The Wrong Way Up, then showed to Hammond again.
incT, the myth, the LEGEND
The one were he is in a green Mondeo and drives through a bouncy castle?
“This is my career!” 🤣 I would love to know what the insurance premiums are like on Hammond’s cars!
He has Lloyd's of London on speed dial
All high except for Oliver
As a fellow immortal being, Hammond is truly one of a kind. The Scandinavian flick will always be my favorite. Always makes me laugh, because he did it in a bleeding Bedford Rascal of all vehicles! We need more honest automotive journalists, even if they can’t recapture the magic brought to it by the infamous three. I remember how it was said you'd never go over the dragster accident again. I see that stays firm even today. Hope you all are able to keep up the great work despite Corpo trying to keep you down, because we need laughter in the world.
I was wondering why the dragster crash wasn't in there, but you answered my question. Where did he say that?
count me in bro
We do not deserve someone as amazing as Richard Hammond on the planet. He is an absolute icon
I've actually hit a concrete barrier and flipped the car in 2021 at a hill climb event. As i was hanging in my car, all i had in mind were Hammond's words from the Rimac crash. Ended up with a broken left leg and telling the people that were taking me out of the car that my leg is broken don't drag me from it. It's an interesting experience. No one filmed mine either do...
Stop talking, you might be hired as Richard Hammond's Stunt Devil!
(In all honesty, I hope you feel better and I hope that you don't get hurt again😁)
@@WIDE-OPEN-THROTTLE Neah, Hammond is like Tom Cruise, he does his owns stunts:))
If you don't mind me asking, was it like in slow motion as it happened? I've heard some people can experience that
@@amyk9813 you did take me down memory lane and i remembered one crash 10 years ago that actually happened in slow motion. It felt like I had a minute time to think about the reaction and another untill the car stopped. Totalled the car, jumped like nine meters, and dragged the car in the ground for about 25. Had time to measure everything while waiting for the tow truck. So the crash it self did take longer then this new one, but not as long as it seemed. Note to self, if tired, pull over immediately.
@@amyk9813 i would say that maybe the slow motion effect gets shorter with experience but by this theory Hammond should time travel in the future in curent crashes:))
Richard is such a gentle soul, it's kind of ironic he drives so many vehicles in anger
Gentle?! 9 out of 10 cars would disagree with that view. The 10th is too far gone to respond.
I love the way he says "I died" at one of the crashes. Just so causally says "oh yeah, I died after that one". 😆
Interesting that he actually finds the van roll more painful to remember than his other ones.
I also noticed the jet dragster crash isn't featured in this. But then I suppose he's already reacted to that one in the past.
The jet is actually off here to not offend Hammond's mental state right now.
@@HandleDiscombobulated Why would it offend him? He's watched it before when he recovered, both on Top Gear and also when he's been on a few talk shows.
@@Veyron722skyhook oh, then idk why that jet aint here
He did request that it not be broadcast again
1:15 ... I can imagine Jeremy Clarkson years from now rising from his death bed to belt out one loud and final "HAMMOOOOND!!!!"
Would love to see a longer version where Richard has more time to talk about his memories.
Yeah I feel like there is so much content there
yeah, felt super empty this video, they cut him off anytime he started saying something interesting... we care about Hammond's experience, not the 5s of footage of each crash
Its nice to see them telling some stories about their past adventures! More of that please :)
PURE CLASS! Thank you Richard for your OUTSTANDING achievements and many glorious contributions to motoring journalism over the past 20 years which is much appreciated! 🙂
It's so wholesome to see Hammond react to all the moments of Top Gear and the Grand Tour and to see that he still remembers them. He's come a long way, all three of them have.
The one where he's like "I don't remember what I was doing on that one!" was the 17 year old challenge. Yes, I have far too much useless stuff in my head.
He didnt remember "Oh what a Pillock".
"Now those two both missed the first obstacle, the car. I won't."
Well I mean, he was pronounced dead after that one
0:50 James was a freaking prophet there😂😂😂
0:14 and, like every other teenager, he says he will deal with that, but we all know he won't! 😂
11:37 R.I.P Richard Hammond. He will be forever missed.
Seeing Hammond so elated about these memories makes my day. Please Hammond more reacting to top gear/grand tour clips! Love hearing the backstory behind these :)
Hammond, you are a legend. One third of the best thing to ever happen to television.
Hammond, Clarkson, and May really do have a magical chemistry. They were made for each other. There's no one else out there that can do what they do. Just a shame that Clarkson keeps getting them kicked off all the major networks.
Need a brand of duct tape called 'Shut Up, Clarkson'.....
"That split my sternum" made me recoil hugely! I can't imagine how much that would hurt
I had to turn on the cc to make sure that I heard and understood correctly what Richard said. Sounds like a horrific injury. And I can't imagine that would have been his only injury (broken ribs??).
you can see him writhing in pain in the seat in the clip
Its only 6 minutes and 27 seconds long im calling sus on this 😂
What does sus mean?

I think this video should be atleast close to 60 minutes
To be fair some of the worst ones were probably excluded (the dragster crash)
6:58 this one was my first introduction to Top Gear. I couldn’t breathe from laughing so hard. I’ve love the old shows ever since 😂
I loved reliving these moments with you.
You have been a huge part of my life, thanks for all the great episodes
Glad you made it out alive lol

Absolutely. They are (and are referred to as) the holy trinity of the car show. Amazon dropping Clarkson is a big mistake and will simply end the grand tour.
@@J_bixby Now that Clarkson has more time maybe he'll do some more Drivetribe content.

I love how excited he gets remembering this stuff.
It takes a serious level of self honesty and confidence to be able to do a video like this. Bravo!
Hammond may be the only human being who has a 13 minute long compilation of crashes and is still alive. :D
I'm actually suprised Richard is still with us.
2:21 I genuinely thought he said ''James May's Son, that he doesn't have but once was.'
What did he say?
That was exactly what i heard too!
I could listen to Hammond, James or Jeremy chatting about past Top Gear & Grand Tour experiences for hours🙏🏻
Hammond scraping the Ferrari in Spain was hilarious. The rest of the day Clarkson and May savaged him for that.
And I think we just got Hammond's epitath: "Yeah, I died."
4:00: one of Richards 9 lives gone
Now I have been watching this man on and off for the past 20 odds years. I never once ever thought I would see him doing a reaction video of all things....Oh well welcome to UA-cam
I love Hammond, my favorite of the 3. Hilarious to see all of your crashes again.
I need the sound of Jeremy screaming "HAMMOND!!!" as my alarm clock sound. That ought to get me up in the morning, no matter how dark and bleek and rainy it is.
_”Tomorrow morning you will be awakened… by the bellow of a wild animal…”_
Jeremy screaming "Hammond" is a classic

I love seeing these videos of Richard reminiscing over all of the adventurers. I like how he explains exactly the scenarios and I still remember all of them from the countless rewatching
Gotta love Hammond. What a bloke
2:45
This is exactly the same sentence he said in the Vietnam episode at the beginning of the episode when they gathered at the marina I think .
Richard Hammond is the type of guy that will say " Yea, I died, but i got better." 🤣
We always want to hear about your medical problems Richard. A glimpse into what it takes for decades of “testing” cars 👏🏾👏🏾👌🏾
I'm just glad he's still here to comment on all the crashes.
2:32 the comedic timing i swear.....
Hearing his insight and stories behind all of these clips is surreal, please do more content like this
So many genuine reactions, from “I was in a nice car and gunned it” to “I shouldn’t have done that sharp of a turn in a van”.
You mentioned your medical issues, and (if you’re comfortable with it) you SHOULD talk about your car crash related injuries because it is insight from a world class driver in every category of automobile (and boats).
Thank you for the great video!
The Bolivia adventure i think is my favourite one of all the specials.
0:36 "so this must barely be like 2% of the crashes iI've had on television"
seems like it gonna take a long time to find every single crashes in his television carrer
Iam happy we havent lose him ❤
Take more care hammond
Richard hammond walking out , literally walking out, not carried by stretcher in ambulance or air lifted is like the most rare thing you can see but it does provide entertainment and concern at the same time .
This man has probably had multiple head injuries at this point and yet he's still smarter, funnier, and wittier than I'll ever be 🤣
I love this little dude. Stay safe, Hamster!
the fact he says he was a test driver for the rimac, nice to see some positivity out of the situation!
shame we didn't get all the footage!
i have to admit the grand tour episode in vietnam on the boats is one of my favourite the boys ever made!
Grew up watching these 3 will never forget them! Always imagine showing my children the specials one day 🙂 legends
one of the best things about this video is remembering my ringtone is a compilation of jeremy clarkson yelling HAMMOND
Thank-you Mr Hammond sir for sharing with us & for so many great memories!!
Only having a broken leg after such a horrible crash in the Rimec sold me on the brand.
I could stay hours listening his stories over ALL of these crashes.
I'm so addicted to these three guys haha.
No words to describe how much I adore this sweet little imp.
The way he can just make fun of himself is to be respected lol. Gotta love HAAAAMMMOOOONNNNDDDD yell too
Now I realise so much time has passed from Top Gear era, seeing Hammond reacting is own crashes …. I couldn’t imagine this video 15 years ago
Crash at 1:09 was from when they had to all get cars and insure them as 17 year olds for less than 1,500. They got to use whatever money leftover to "modify" their cars and then ran a series of challenges. This particular one was a bit of an obstacle course but they had to hit things instead of avoid them.
Classic film
I love the fact there were moments when Richard was watching it and trying to remember which crash it was.
And we love that even after all of this Richard Hammond is still the cheeky chipper guy he is and it's still around to tell us about all this
Thank you Hammond for all your years of automotive slapstick entertainment.
He's giving serious comfort teacher vibes and I love it
12:14 I lost it when the camera on the ground popped up and the hubcap just nyoomed past...
Hammond is slowly looking more like his mother with each passing year, but with a stylish beard.
I love his work and dedication.
I love the little smile that cracks at the end as he points to himself and says "leave it to the professionals"
I have always admired the Top Gear crew, especially Richard, he reminds me of the kid in school who never quite fit in and was always looking for a way to get into the big boy club...
I will never be able to enjoy that show again, these three can never be replaced, not by anybody... I thought it was all over when I heard they were leaving, in fact I think there were a few tears..
I was so happy when they all stuck together like true friends do and started the whole The Grand Tour, now that is ending and I can't accept it, I will miss seeing them, especially hamster.
They made me feel so young again...like I was that kid in school who was finally accepted into the big boy club,...
Thanks James, thanks Jeremy, thank you Richard. ❤
I just recently discovered what for years I have missed out on, the trio and their great chemistry together. No matter what happens I will watch and support them.
