    Stainless resists erosion better. It lasts longer at the throat. Way less corrosion. Wylde in ss is a good option.

    My target rifle has a 20" Criterion hybrid profile chrome lined barrel with a Wylde chamber.
    My light hunter has a 20" BCM .gov profile chrome lined barrel with a standard NATO chamber.
    Both of these rifles have free float hand guards.
    My Criterion is a 1/2 MOA rig with my pet hand load.
    My BCM is 1.5 MOA rig with the same load.
    I WILL NEVER OWN A NON CHROME LINED BARREL AGAIN. Bad accuracy because of chrome lining is the biggest myth in the shooting world. If your chrome lined barrel won't shoot, its because you got it from a crappy barrel maker, not because its chrome lined.
    If I need target grade accuracy, the Criterion comes out of the safe.
    When its time to hunt, the BCM comes out of the safe.
    Criterion if you made a 20" .gov profile, hand lapped, chrome lined barrel, I would I never by a barrel from another company.
    Thats a hint by the way.

      @@prepandpress I still have my hybrid profile barrel. I have since added a 308 to my collection and it also has a hybrid profile chrome lined barrel. I also hinted that if Criterion made a .gov profile barrel that was hand lapped and chromed lined I would never buy a barrel from another company. Well here in 2020 they released the CORE series barrels. The 20 inch CORE barrel is a about the same weight as a .gov profile. The catch is that its SUPER THICK at the chamber ( where it needs to be). It's also much thinner at the muzzle ( where it also needs to be). Because of this better profile, the CORE series barrel handles heat MUCH BETTER than a .gov profile. So now I get to keep my word. I will never buy an AR15 barrel from another company. My BCM barrel will be replaced as soon as I have the funds.
      Now if I can get them to make me a chrome lined 6.5 Creedmoor barrel for my AR10. That's another hint Criterion.

    i have that fortis muzzle break on two of my rifles... awesome break... flatter shooting than my lantac dragon breaks...

      It looked pretty sweet! This rifle had a Fortis rail on it that you could just unattach and slip off. Very slick!

    Stainless steel barrels only start wearing out when a ordinary steel barrel is already wone out. They cannot be cold or hot forged either.

    I know this is old, and probably won't get a response, but don't stainless barrels keep their accuracy longer because they wear differently than chrome lined?

      Mister Misanthrope I’ll get with Josh and get you an answer on that one. 👍🏻

      The additional surface hardness of a chrome lined barrel will typically allow it to hold accuracy longer due to the added durability of the chrome material. With a stainless steel barrel you will normally see wear occur quicker, requiring a replacement after 3,000 - 7,000 rounds. A chrome lined barrel will typically hold its accuracy for approximately 17,000 - 20,000 rounds before throat erosion causes group size to increase.
      Traditionally stainless steel barrels have offered superior accuracy potential when compared to chrome lined barrels, but our unique chrome lining process allows for accuracy potential on par with our stainless steel match-grade barrels.

    What the hell is stainless? Nitride? All I can find is Nitride or Chrome? I don’t see a stainless option for Criterion barrels.

    • @rdsii64
      @rdsii64 3 роки тому

      Their nitride barrels are stainless. Their stainless barrels are nitride treated to make them last longer. If stainless is what you are after a Criterion nitride treated barrel will serve you well.

    My understanding is stainless is more corrosion resistant.for long term.

    • @prepandpress
      @prepandpress  6 років тому

      Over a non-coated barrel, yes. Most steel (not stainless) barrels have some sort of coating to aid in corrosion resistance, either chrome or QPQ/Nitride.

    • @Reallifenewz
      @Reallifenewz 5 років тому +1

      @@prepandpress I gotta add, coating's are short term. If you shoot a lot it wears. Stainless is the same weight and if you can juncture your common sense you'll see the dominator.
