      Very cool thanks for this comparison. Would the T480 keyboard fit in the T14 gen 2? I'm only asking because the T25 (25th anniversary) keyboard does fit the T480 and if I could get it to work on the T14 gen 2 that would be a dream come true

    Just watching any review videos of this guy is fun and relaxing. Nice deep and calming voice. For thin and light, Intel is out until they can produce 8 core variants. Strangely, for Comet Lake, they had some 6-core U-series CPUs.

      Intel has been coasting for too long and will soon be out of the competition unless they sort out their sh i!.
      Apple is leading the way with their M1 chips. Microsoft also need to pull their finger out and make Windows fully compatible for arm chips, otherwise they too are going to get left behind as Apple has started picking up the pace.
      In all honesty, I dislike MacOS, it's nowhere near as user friendly as Windows, but I absolutely love how Apple design their OS and now their chips to work in harmony and squeeze every bit of performance out of the hardware. They managed it well enough even with Intel's chips, but now they are leaps ahead with the M1.

    currently, i'm using a inspiron 14 7447 with a display 1366 x 768 and I'm pretty satisfied with the resolution and display brightness, would like to know if this t480 will be a much upgrade compare to my current laptop since everyone is commenting on the poor display and poor brightness?

      T480 is very useful - perhaps consider the T14 Gen 2 if your budget allows. More modern.

    I see zero value in getting an intel CPU in a T14. the AMD version is so much better with double the cores giving it much better performance at about %20 lower cost. even the much cheaper t14 GEN1 Ryzen 5pro model is so much better than the T14 Gen2 i7 model
    I think intel T series models are crap.

    • @GreenGreenStore
      @GreenGreenStore  3 роки тому +1

      Useful point. At the moment, the Intel model supports eGPU via Thunderbolt 4; can be useful or niche, depending on the user; the MX450 optional graphics might be handy for some too. Lastly the availability on the Gen 2 is Intel mostly for now.

    • @TheGrizz485
      @TheGrizz485 3 роки тому +1

      @@GreenGreenStore in a managed corporate environment where tens of thousands of Tseries laptops would be bought not a single case of eGPU was used. A TB docstation is better than a usb-c one but not by much and it costs 3x. TB is nice but it's not a big selling point given the extra cost of the port and devices. I think it will slowly die off after usb4

    • @TheGrizz485
      @TheGrizz485 3 роки тому

      @@GreenGreenStore I disagree with mx450 option being valuable. It's faster than the 96EU of the tiger lake cpu (or the ryzen5800u) but not significantly why bother? especially when consider the battery hit.

    • @Cryptolorian
      @Cryptolorian 2 роки тому +1

      @@TheGrizz485 I totally agree with you regarding Thunderbolt, other than the ability to daisy chain monitors for the Mac's and provide some benefit for storage transfer speeds, Thunderbolt has done very little to win over hearts and minds. Most people don't even understand what it is and the fact that a lot of the Thunderbolt devices come with a premium price tag, hasn't helped at all. USB is the way forward as it has been for decades now.
      AMD has a future and will lead the way alongside Apple, Intel got lazy and too complacent and now they are paying the price.
      Having said that, Lenovo should never have used these power hungry Intel chips in their devices and should have stuck to AMD's chips.
      My T14 Gen1 i5 overheats to the point where it becomes uncomfortable to use and all I do is browse the net, watch UA-cam videos and use some apps which can be a little memory hungry such as Binance.
      I have now disabled Turbo Boost which means it only goes upto 2.2 GHz for single core and 1.6 Ghz for all four cores. It runs a lot cooler and the fan rarely kicks in, and fortunately the system is still quite responsive so I don't notice much difference if any especially for what I do.
      The battery life has also improved significantly from 4-5 hours to the 8-9 hours of non-stop use I get out of it now.
      Still I am not happy that I am having to do this!
      When Windows Bootcamp is supported on Apple's silicon, I am buying a MacBook Air!

    Great video and such a nice, calm voice. I wish the best for your channel. With that said, I wonder how futureproof the T480 with 4 cores is nowadays, especially since the arrival of Apple's M1 chip. My own T480 configuration has 16 gbs of ram, an Nvme SSD, 1080p IPS screen panel and an intel i5-8250U processor. I hope it can last me 10+ years, but we can never know I guess, can we ;)

      I feel like we have entered into a new era where moore's law is no longer relevant in the sense that cpus have plateaued and the diminishing returns are starting to take over.
      I also just bought a t480 w/ i5-8350u.
      From what i read the poor thermal design actually makes the i7's slower in this model.
      From my limited research it also seems like hard drives have also plateaued w/ sata vs nvme vs pcie4 all being indistinguishable. Mine has a nvme w/ 256gb but i doubt i will notice a difference. really just hoping the nvme drive will last longer if i add a heat sink.
      all my devices I use for 10 yrs plus. i have rubbed off the anodizing on my iphone 5 from holding it so long and my 40$ dell inspirion n4110 is litterally falling apart after 11 years of daily use.
      I too came the conclusion that a refurb t480 for around 500$ will probably be the most future proof value laptop.
      also with the rise in school shootings i suspect it could pass for nij 2a

      @@Cryptolorian o I was just joking that the thing is so thicc and brick like that it could stop a bullet. all body armor in the US is rated by the national institute of justice or atleast compared to their standard testing. the letter a at the end of the nomenclature means its a soft/kevlar body armor. so NIJIIA is like most hand gun rounds, its the level of armor most cops wear.
      in 2014 there was a FSU student who was shot twice in a library in his back but the contents of his backpack stopped the bullets lol. But i think the shooter was using an older and less powerful revolver? I think it was a teacher or something that had a mental break? i dont remember. I keep a NIJ3A plate in my backpack ever since sandyhook just coz i cant bring my firearm on school grounds. 35$ of protection and doesnt weight more than a couple ounces. Ive been in college nonstop since 2011 so... i figure the risk/benifit is maybe higher since its such a long time period

      I bought t480 few weeks whit ago 4 core i5 and im more than happy whit it, i use linux on it as daily driver. Im going to sell my L14 r7 thinkpad since im really disappointed whit build quality, i was thinking of t14 but soldered ram nonsense and build in battery no thx. As far i can tell t480 will outlast physically newer t14/l14/p14 my friend have t14 and it is same build quality as my l14. i would agree that t480 was last truly great thinkpad. i see thinkpads in five years to be non user upgradable, everything soldered on pcb and milion dongles to transfer data from sd card
