I believe 9 seconds exactly matches 4 bars which is the basic unit that this song is built around (even though the larger sections, eg chorus take longer). Thus 4 bars moved to the right still fit the general theme of the song, while introducing a lot more diversity, because we now have more different combinations of vocals with music. Really well done!

THAT’S what I’ve been trying to say, thank you. I don’t know music but that’s what I’ve been thinking. The chorus dropping on the second part of the instrumental instead of the first as it did originally not only serves to make the chorus easier to actually understand, but also makes the instrumental feel all the more powerful
@AdamKlownzinger I came back to this because I'm having a rough day and it's just so good AHH. The second chorus especially, because it seriously amps up on the repeat creating more of an unexpected burst of energy. The fact the whole song pauses for the final prechorus line also just really hits and anticipates the final event. It has this charge and release feel, it separates her from the instruments so they compliment each other
I think it highlights what's both good and bad about the original very well. It feels more like a band performing and grooving where they feel necessary. But there is also some places where the punchiness is lost. It's a good study in how writing pop music could be done in a less traditional way to great effect. Just imagine a complete rewrite with this as the inspiration.
This really gives a unique experience. Many people might find this idea ridiculous and not something that would make much difference. Actually this makes such a different listening experience, and one that is quite interesting. Thanks for making and uploading this video.
This is actually way better than the original honestly. I love how the instrumental sits for awhile before the lyrics kick in. It’s like a prelude for what she’s about to sing. I also think it’s cool how the beat stops before she does, it’s like a fade out rather than an abrupt stop
A lot was changed but big factors: The repeating of the chorus isnt as boring anymore! Every pop song really needs to work on making the repetitions in a song enjoyable and unique rather than catchy. Because of these factors, and thanks to the beat: it feels like the song is actually a story. Theres a start. A middle. And an end. So many songs feel like there's a good start, then the song. Maybe a little bit of an end. But it doesnt feel like the song is building up, EXPLOSION, then conclusion. That's how an average pop song should feel in my opinion. AN ENDING THAT FEELS LIKE AN ENDING. With the instrumentals gone, it gives the effort she put in her vocals more spotlight. She sung it in a way that felt like it was the end. And the lack of music helped pronounce that. Too many songs, just end. I want proper endings.
„Catchy“ however is the thing that makes it go viral on social media. But I totally agree with you - why make a 3 minute song that just repeats the same 15 seconds again and again - it’s just boring.
I actually do really like the energy of the original, where everything matches up, but I also find it overwhelming. I can't listen to it too many times because trying to parse out her vocals from the background music (I have Auditory Processing Disorder) gives me an overstimulation-headache. This is far easier to listen to, especially repeatedly.
That synth kicking in with the bridge and then exploding as the chorus grows is actually really dope. Edit: Wonder if she's gotten to hear this herself.
Somehow the original always sounded rushed and incomplete and kind of muddy in everything. But this feels complete and stable and serene at the same moment. Feeling of completeness is amazing
I dont usually comment on other videos saying they're better than the ori but this is definitely such a good one i can't even tell if its real and the last part where there's only vocals is just *chef's kiss*
she's so talented vocally but some of her music is just too much for me but if it sounded like this i would be obsessed! shows off her vocal abilities a lot more somehow. especially the bridge, it sounds incredible omg
This moves the hook of "I Got You" to a bridge, meaning the drop comes on "You Want Me". Also you can now clearly hear more instrumentation at 0:28, 1:47 and a few other moments. It's way more funky, but less pop-like.
I think that the reason it sounds so good is that the structure of the instrumental doesn't mimic the structure of the vocals as it does in the original song. In the delayed version, the instrumental changes mid-verse and the „chorus” consists of two different parts instead of one part repeating itself twice. It's just more complex.
In the original the instrumental is lined up with the vocals. The 9 seconds in question would be 4 bars. Now in the original song there’s a change to the variation on the theme every 8 bars cause again, the instrumental and vocals are lined up with each other, however by pushing the vocals 4 bars you get an interesting switch every 4 bars (one in the vocals and one in the instrumental) over the course of the 8 bars and the producer made the song a little more interesting and unpredictable by making each part, both instrumental and vocal, interact with not one, but two variations of their counterparts. (idk if you’ll understand, it makes sense in my head I’m sorry!!) One could argue that this could be done with most pop music because there is definitely a formula that’s being used over and over and over again and I am definitely looking forward to seeing more remixes like this one
I think you are right and also imagine the song would be harder to perform live. Sometimes I feel pop music is repetitive bc that way is easier to consume.
at first i thought this is gonna be an intentional desynced meme edit, but holy shit this gave the song a different energy! nice!

Of course we're noticing the instrumentals and vocals. We know how the song is supposed to sound. We'd be having the same conversation if this was the original and someone backed up the vocals by 4 bars.
Also makes the buildup to the bridge 'glitter in my eye' section have a different instrument palette, improving the pacing of the song
I love how this gives her vocals more of a chance to shine. Rather than drowning in the track the whole time.
Idk, her vocals seem a bit exposed at parts and makes the song feel a little awkward at times in my opinion.

@@kriswilson6081 you’re not wrong! they all seem to follow a similar formula
Honestly, I love when a chorus drops down and isolates on the se ond round, its a unique and special feel, it works so well here.
It has this charge and release feel, it separates her from the instruments so they compliment each other
The fact this is BETTER is sitting weird with me. I love this.
Yes it does lack a bit of the punch the original version does, but this is amazing, and in some points even better than the original song
I disagree, it adds more punch
It has way more punch and it's not even close
What punch?
There is an audible boxing punch sound effect as a sample in the middle of the song. Listen through it a couple times and you might hear it
I really like this version!! It sounds more “fresh” and not like a “predictable” pop song
True
That’s exactly what I felt! ❤
This really gives a unique experience. Many people might find this idea ridiculous and not something that would make much difference. Actually this makes such a different listening experience, and one that is quite interesting. Thanks for making and uploading this video.
This genuinely improves the song! A good lesson in composition as well as emphasising both vocals and instruments
This version feels like the instrumentals riding her vocals rather than the other way around, very interesting
Yes exactly! This guy gets it
This is actually way better than the original honestly. I love how the instrumental sits for awhile before the lyrics kick in. It’s like a prelude for what she’s about to sing. I also think it’s cool how the beat stops before she does, it’s like a fade out rather than an abrupt stop
I really like this version
it's not
it makes the verses build up as it gets to the pre chorus
oh please, give me a break. It is not better than the original, some of the phrasing and transitions are quite awkward.
It's very interesting because at times it can be awkward, but because the lyrics are still on beat so it works surprisingly well
This kinda better ngl. Her vocals without instrumentals for the few seconds really stand out well
i feel like someone should make a video essay about this, bc this is kinda of insane how different the song sounds.
Well it would be kinda weird if it sounded the same lol
It would make for a very interesting video essay indeed.
@@Begeruit’s a simple change but it’s completely transformed the song. also no dababy. bonus
somebody did lmao
A lot was changed but big factors:
The repeating of the chorus isnt as boring anymore!
Radio edits are the best and worst things to happen to pop music.
the ending in this version is literally the best thing ever
„Catchy“ however is the thing that makes it go viral on social media.
But I totally agree with you - why make a 3 minute song that just repeats the same 15 seconds again and again - it’s just boring.
Glad I am not the only one that fucking despise boring and useless arrangements. Songs should be more like movies
Man you boasted ✅️
Im confused, this literally fits perfectly, how isnt this just the original song
Woah this improved it so much. We can actually make out the vocals and the instrumentals much clearly here.
I already love the original but this version blew me away!
2:24-2:42 was so wonderfully done...
yeah the 2 choruses without backup music... and the very end. MUCH BETTER i agree
@@funk3nst3in yeah✨

No. It does sound good, but not necessarily better.

didn't have to chance to notice how good the bass in this song was before this

I actually do really like the energy of the original, where everything matches up, but I also find it overwhelming. I can't listen to it too many times because trying to parse out her vocals from the background music (I have Auditory Processing Disorder) gives me an overstimulation-headache. This is far easier to listen to, especially repeatedly.
I love this version because it makes it sound a lot more funky. Dua Lipa's instrumentals are often drowned out in her songs
3:20 - 3:32 was honestly the best, most unexpected part that seemed like it should belong in the original
Yet another reason why this is the definitive version of the song

sounds like the paid commercial where a singer releases a teaser for her new song but not exactly how it is on the album
That synth kicking in with the bridge and then exploding as the chorus grows is actually really dope.
Edit: Wonder if she's gotten to hear this herself.
The synth was so good
Somehow the original always sounded rushed and incomplete and kind of muddy in everything. But this feels complete and stable and serene at the same moment. Feeling of completeness is amazing

This makes the vocals pop so much more
You could put her vocals anywhere and this song would be a masterpiece. It's such a well constructed song!
Yeah, but you can actually hear it in this version
she's so talented vocally but some of her music is just too much for me but if it sounded like this i would be obsessed! shows off her vocal abilities a lot more somehow. especially the bridge, it sounds incredible omg

One of the best albums of 2020 Undoubtedly
This moves the hook of "I Got You" to a bridge, meaning the drop comes on "You Want Me". Also you can now clearly hear more instrumentation at 0:28, 1:47 and a few other moments. It's way more funky, but less pop-like.
we have enough pop songs
The Acapella part right before the instrumental kicks back in sent me in outer space
This whole song is good but istg the drop at 2:42 is such a goddamn banger
I think that the reason it sounds so good is that the structure of the instrumental doesn't mimic the structure of the vocals as it does in the original song. In the delayed version, the instrumental changes mid-verse and the „chorus” consists of two different parts instead of one part repeating itself twice. It's just more complex.
2:20 GODDD THIS PART IS SO GOOD
Iou
FRRRRRRR
You can hear their voice better
This proves that even it's distorted, it's still good

Ok but that final chorus lines up with the gap in instrumental PERFECTLY

In the original the instrumental is lined up with the vocals. The 9 seconds in question would be 4 bars. Now in the original song there’s a change to the variation on the theme every 8 bars cause again, the instrumental and vocals are lined up with each other, however by pushing the vocals 4 bars you get an interesting switch every 4 bars (one in the vocals and one in the instrumental) over the course of the 8 bars and the producer made the song a little more interesting and unpredictable by making each part, both instrumental and vocal, interact with not one, but two variations of their counterparts. (idk if you’ll understand, it makes sense in my head I’m sorry!!)
One could argue that this could be done with most pop music because there is definitely a formula that’s being used over and over and over again and I am definitely looking forward to seeing more remixes like this one
Nono, its perfectly understandable and you are right
you’re spot on!
aint readin allat
I think you are right and also imagine the song would be harder to perform live. Sometimes I feel pop music is repetitive bc that way is easier to consume.
